Grilled Halibut With Oriental Sauce

1/4 cup orange juice
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
2 Tablespoons ketchup
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
2 Tablespoons fresh parsley or 1 Tbsp dried parsley, chopped
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 Teaspoon oregano
1/2 Teaspoon pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
4 6-oz. halibut steaks, cleaned
1 cup Apple Wood chips

Combine orange juice, soy sauce, ketchup, oil, parsley, lemon juice, oregano, pepper and garlic in a small bowl. Brush the mixture evenly on the steaks, refrigerate.

Brush the grill lightly with oil. Light the coals or gas grill. Soak the apple wood chips in water for about 45 minutes. When the coals turn white add the wood chips. When the chips start to smoke place the steaks on the grill rack and cook turning once, about 5 to 6 minutes per side, or until the steaks flake when tested with a fork.




Easy Trail Mixes

Before you set off on your next family walk or outing, try making one of these super easy trail mixes to keep your energy up.

* Quick Fix Mix 2 cups mini pretzels 1 cup cheese snack crackers 1 cup honey roasted peanuts 1 cup raisins

Place all ingredients into a plastic baggie, seal, and then shake. Enjoy!

* Chocolate Popcorn Mix 2 cups spoon size shredded wheat cereal 2 cups popped popcorn 1 cup dried cranberries 3 Tbsp. milk chocolate chunks

Toss cereal and popcorn into a large bowl. Place the cranberries into a small bowl. Melt the chocolate as directed on the package, and stir. Pour the chocolate over the cranberries and mix lightly. Add the c Easy Trail Mixes Recipe

Harvest Apple Pie With Cheddar Crust

(NC)–Apples partner well with cheddar and here the cheese is built right into the crust. For another variation, use your favourite crust recipe and top with apple crisp topping.

Cheddar Crust

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 550mL

3/4 tsp salt 4 mL

1/2 cup vegetable shortening125mL

1/4 cup cold butter 50mL

(cut into small pieces)

1 3/4 cups old cheddar cheese 425mL

5 to 6 tbsp ice water 75 to 90 mL

Apple Filling:

6 cups Ontario Apples 1.5 L

sliced peeled (Such as Cortland, Crispin (Mutsu), Golden Delicious, Jonagold, McIntosh, Northern Spy, Russet, Spartan)

1 tbsp lemon juice 15mL

1/3 cup granulated sugar 75mL

1 tbsp all-purpose flour 15mL

1/2 tsp cinnamon 2mL

I was in the supermarket this morning (nothing unusual in that) and pushing my trolley to the checkout. Well, my wife was pushing and I was away in airy-fairy land when it suddenly dawned on me that I was walking past water. Not just any water but a whole world of the stuff.
