"Dip It Fun Food Cookbook"
Rodgers is a prolific cookbook writer of all types and sorts, including his Christmas and Thanksgiving 101 books, as well as the more serious and magnificent cookbook on Vienna, et al Bakery.

This is focused on a comeback entry, fondue. Many of us from sixties and seventies went through the rage for this and had not thought of it for awhile. Now this resurrgence, and Rodgers provides us with a quality work to explore this new appetizer, main course and dessert entry.

He provides equipment section, that although brief is usuable and reliable info. Would have been nice to have photos and source info, but these aren't really that vital to this food venue.

His creativity in collected these recipes is what makes this book valuable: feast your fondue spear on such as: Sun Dried Tomato Pizza Fondue; Caribbean Edam and Habanero Chile Fondue; Rosemary Ragna Cauda with Vegetables; White Chocolate and Raspberry Swirl Fondue; and Double-Berry and Riesling Fondue.

Each is helped by a "What To Dip" box with many times dozen and more items suggested.

"No Photos!"
This book does not contain a single photograph, which is disappointing for a cookbook. The cover is actually different than what is on the site (a 1950's kitschy illustration). The recipes might be good, but the book itself is not inspirational. I sent it back and got Fondue by Petra Casparek, which is a much more appealing book with mouth-watering photographs.

"Great for the fondue rookie!"
I have always loved fondue, and bought a fondue pot so that I could make fondue with friends. However, without this cookbook, I would not have been able to branch out of anything other than chocolate and fruit fondues. The cookbook is wonderful, as it is broken into sections and each recipe is easy to understand, with each step present. I also really loved the explanations he gives of the types of ingredients to use, and especially liked the recommendations on what to dip in the given fondue. Great, great, great! I'm actually giving as a gift with two fondue pots this summer!

"Great first fondue book to go with new fondue pot..."
If you can get past the author's self-serving commentary about how everyone loves his recipies and never turns down an invite to a party he's catering, this is a great "starter" fondue book. A brief history of fondue is covered, which is interesting, but most of the book consists of fondue recipies in four major categories:

1. Cheese fondue. This is your basic fondue most people think of as Swiss fondue - a pot of warm cheese that you dip bread in. The variety of recipies covers different types of cheeses and spices/other additions that range from the simplest "classic swiss three-cheese fondue" to the more adventerous "gorgonzola, port, and walnut fondue" to the extreme (IMHO) "normandy shrimp fondue with cider and gruyere".

2. Fried fondue. This is your classic 1980s pot of hot oil for frying chunks of meat, and which I'll admit is still my favorite. Given the premise of fried meat pieces on a fork, the recipies in this section center on sauces, though the book also covers important points on oil selection and temperature. Some of the sauces are really excellent.

3. Asian hot pot, aka Asian fondue or Chinese fondue. Basically, you're starting with a chicken, beef, or fish stock, in which you cook a thin piece of selected meet in the fondue pot on your own fork. Then you dip in a special sauce. Recipies are provided for several different stocks, as well as a variety of sauces.

4. Dessert fondues. Obviously, chocolate fondue is the first recipie and probably the only one most people will actually try, but several other things like "white chocolate and raspberry swirl fondue" and "tiramisu mascarpone fondue" sound awfully tempting.

With a good selection of recipies - I'd guess 75-100 in all - this is a great book to accompany a fondue pot gift, or for yourself if you got the pot as a gift but no book, or (as in my case) if you're buying your own fondue pot and don't want to be stuck with fried beef chunks dipped in Kraft BBQ sauce as your only "recipie". This is the only fondue book I have, but it will probably be years - if ever - before I need another.

"Excellent how to for any fondue fan!"
As first time fondue person I bought this book and it is great.
It has clear instructions for all kinds of fondue making as well as practical general fondue do's and don'ts.
It has lots of great recipes for all kinds of fondue and great explanations of all the food items for the inexperienced cheese, bread etc person to use in a fondue.
If you want an all around book for fondue use get this book, I love it!!!
It is now 2003 and I have STILL not found a fondue book that can top this one...buy this book folks!!!

What our customer's say!

"Fondue Recipe Assortment", Rick Rodgers writes in an easy to read way and offers reipes that are easy as well. Fonduing is fun, but since you don't do it every day, having this book is a comfort for review and recipes.

"Not the best...", Some of the recipes just don't seem too appetizing.......liked "The 125 Best Fondue Recipes" better!!!

"Great Fondue for Grownups!", This book is chock full of excellent recipes that would be a hit with any grown-up dinner party. If you are going to have a get-together with friends and are looking for recipes that not only look and taste good but will also be impressive, this is the book for you. I really just wanted a fondue book with tried and true recipes that would appeal to my family. There are a few simple recipes in the book, but most of them have names like Italian Fontina and Porcini Fondue, Welsh Cheddar and Bacon Rabbit Fondue, Lobster Newburg Fondue, Smoked Salmon, Capers and Triple Creme Fondue, you see the trend. So if you are having an adult dinner party with friends and want to have something that sounds trendy or exotic, then this book is the one for you. If you want some simple family-type recipes, I would suggest looking for something different.

"Excellent food history lesson and delicious recipes", This is my first exposure to Rick Rodgers' writing and I am already looking to buy more of his cookbooks. He is thorough in his explanations of what equipment, chocolate, cheese, etc. to buy without being wordy or condescending. Each recipe comes with a paragraph lesson of its origin (e.g. Swiss, French, Italian) and/or American fondue versions and/or to whom the recipe would appeal. This book has such a variety of recipes that both the more and less adventurous eaters in your dinner party will be gastronomically satisfied. For a real Swiss experience, I recommend the Classic Swiss Three-Cheese Fondue and the Classic Chocolate Fondue. Recipes I'll be trying at my next fondue party are: Italian Fontina and Porcini Fondue, French Gruyere and Onion Fondue, and the Original Toblerone Fondue. This book offers years of interesting entertaining. Rick Rodgers' recipes and dipping suggestions can be trusted to provide a superior dining experience.

"No photos needed!!!", Since when are photos needed when the book is clear and as well written as this one? In my mind never.
This was my first book for fondue and frankly ALL the others books I either bought or looked at may have had photos but were so lacking in details, originality and interesting recipes I haven't used the two others I bought and haven't bought anymore. This book is simply the best fondue book you can buy, not only does it have good recipes it has clear instructions on how to use a fondue pot the differnt kinds of fondue pots as well as a comprehensive list of cheeses, breads, meats and other ingrediants good for fondue.
Anyone with a fundimental skill in cooking doesn't need a photo to know how to grate cheese or cut bread into cubes.

"Perfect gift to give with a fondue set", We picked this book off of...... after receiving a very nice fondue set for Christmas. It reads very easily and is interesting for the avid chef as well as the casual cook. There are simple recipes and lots of history, and it can easily be skimmed in an hour or so. The author sticks close to the idea that fondue is about fun, not complexity. This is really all that is needed to get that new (or dusty old) pot and forks hot and ready to dine.

"Fondue 101 and then some!", Before you even get started with the fabulous recipes found in this book, the author is kind enough to give you a "fondue revu" - Serving styles, Equipment, Ingredients; it's an extensive overview, but quick and to the point. The book itself is full of updated fondue recipes, it takes you through cheeses, hot oils, broths (Asian Hot Pots), dipping sauces and dessert fondues. It has quickly become my book of choice when breaking out the fondue pot!

"quick easy and good fondue", I was lucky enough to take Rick's Fondue Cooking class at a local school and walked out with his book and a new fondue pot. I have been able to duplicate each of the things he made in class and have even tried new things. Fondue is back in fashion and it is fun! It makes a great book to give as a gift (partner it with a pot and plates).

"A "how-to" book made simple.", Like most people, my fondue pot was gathering dust on a high shelf in the hall closet. This book gives clear & easy recipes for appetizer and meal-size fondues, but also for desserts--something I had never attempted before. I recently made fondue for houseguests who were as tired as I was after a day of sight-seeing. It made for a perfect, easy meal as we sat around the table relaxing and talking about our adventures of the day. Thanks for a great time-saving book!

"A great book with fun easy fondue recipies", This is a great beginner fondue book. The recipies are easy and call for ingredients that are not hard to find. The dessert recipies are especially good and easy to make.
