"Great book for the not so hot gardener"
Great book with information explaining why this type garden works and why it is easy to maintain. I have a big yard, but I want several small gardens that are easy to maintain. A friend told me about the PBS shows he saw and told me buy the book. I plan to start this fall. The book gives all the information I need.

"ALL NEW"
The Original Square Foot Gardening book was an inspiration and kept me interested in gardening for many years. I always used the information loosely, but the new book has me excited again, and I plan on doing my garden over completely. I haven't got results on the garden to report, but the result of the book is that I plan on following the instructions to the letter this time.

"Square Foot Gardening"
Best Gardening book I've ever read. I can do this.!! One Square Foot at a time. It takes out the weeding (no fun) out of gardening. I've even found free wood like the author suggests. Will be planting vegetables and flowers this fall.

"Makes Gardening Easy"
Straight forward easy to follow step by step instruction for basic gardening. my husband and I followed the steps and we've had great results in out garden. No pests or problems to report.

Thanks

"You don't always have to listen to Mel!"
I bought this book because I wanted some information on gardening intensively in raised beds. The best things about the book are the plant spacing guides and the timing charts in the back that help you know when to plant what, according to your frost dates. These are absolutely essential for the first time gardener, and I've referred to them many times. Aside for that, I don't care for Mel's writing style. He somehow comes off as pompous and condescending: "If you don't do __ , you don't have a square foot garden!" I don't care if I don't have a square foot garden, as Mel has defined it. I deviated from Mel's soil mix by purchasing landscape soil from a local company. My mix is 20% topsoil, 50-60% leaf compost, and the rest is sand. I also went 12 inches deep with the soil. It's nice to plant tomatoes deeply, and put carrots wherever I feel like it. Many, many people have admired my garden. It is incredibly productive and beautiful at the same time, with pictures that rival the author's. Oh, and that's another pet peeve--I wish the book had a few more photos, especially of trellised crops like tomatoes and melons. I can understand the need to start from scratch with your soil if you live in an area with terrible soils, but here in MI, the soil is nice to begin with. There's absolutely no reason to ignore great local resources if you have them. Instead of spending a fortune on the soil mix, I put my money into great-looking composite raised bed kits.

What our customer's say!

"Great for Australia", This is a fantastic concept and ideal for Australian conditions.
As we have no snow where I live we grow veg's all year round.
The concept is great fun, effective and we are growing heaps of veg's.
Looks good to the eye and creates heaps of interest for visitors.
My square foot garden now consumes most of my free time as I enjoy it so much.
The book is very easy to read and you don't put it down once you start reading.

"All New SFG", Have the original. This is a great book. If you want to qarden this is the way.

"An Australian perspective", All New Square Foot Gardening

The best value garden book I have purchased. I am in the process of setting up a limited site vegetable garden and Mel Bartholomew's SFG is the ideal answer. While conversions have to be made for the northern hemisphere seasons as to those 'down under', it is informative and entertaining notwithstanding the author's excess description of his history and early program implementation.

I have no doubt using this method of gardening is the way of the future. It saves water, fertilisers, insecticides and time. Bartholomew has put together an easy to read "do it yourself" compact and productive gardening program for the oldest/infirmed to the youngest gardener. The book is a must for any serious gardener wanting to save resources while improving productivity. I regret SFG has not been promoted in Australia earlier.

"Good Information", This book helps the novice not to make many the mistakes a novice will do. I like gleaning from other's experience.

"My own Squarefoot of Happiness", I bought this book searching for a new way to garden, The soil where I live is poor mostly clay and huge rocks! It was wearing me out. I gave up 5 years ago and just grew container tomatoes and flowers. I found wood, four 6 foot planks for 20 bucks at lumber store. (on clearance). I bought some angles and put them together. I followed the directions most of the time but I found culivated soil already prepared at a reasonable price.
I planted squash, cukes, carrots, peppers, beans and melons, mustard and collard greens. That was in April. Now it's August and I am harvesting squash, cukes, greens, and peppers. The green beans and the carrots and melon have not fared well. But I think I planted them wrong The squash took over everything and the cukes unbeknown to me require a trellis although I have improvised using chicken wire; next year I will be better prepared. This book has taught me much and my trial and error has taught me too. I will also have a separate box for squash next year. I love it this method. I am outside more and I culitvate and enjoy my bounty. And I am not finished yet after the summer crops have gone I will plant some cabbage, collards, and broccoli. Vegetables that are agreeable to cooler weather. I want to thank the author for he has changed my life. Mr Bartholomew. Thank you for introducing me to home grown vegetables which has also led me to more time in the kitchen. I grew herbs in pots. My culinary world has expanded and I bought a swing to sit outside and marvel at my garden on cool summer evenings. Thank you so much. You brought out the country in a city girl!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"What an ego!", There are some very useful ideas here if you can stomach the author tooting his own horn on nearly every page while knocking other styles of gardening. I read a review before buying the book that said something similar and wish I'd just checked it out from the library. The system is workable, simple, and surely a nice gardening solution for many people, but it's not a book I'd need to keep on the shelf as a ready reference.

"Excellent Update to Favorite Gardening Method", I have been using Mel's original SFG method since my mother first gave me the book over 20 years ago. Bought this updated version as a gift for a friend but snuck a peek at it first. The new method sounds even easier and more productive, so I will be purchasing another copy for myself!

"All New Square Foot Gardening", All New Square Foot Gardening
Great! Very helpful in saving time, space, and water. Very productive way of gardening.

"Excellent guide!", This book is an excellent reference for the beginning gardener. Instructions are easy to follow, and the reference tables at the end of the book are wonderful.

"Advice, charts and more", Mel has updated this comprehensive book for today's gardener. This intensive method of gardening works on many levels. I especially appreciate the charts for successive cropping of veggies. He's got me back in the 'box'.
