Others say...

"Don't believe the hype, buy it local and try it out yourself."
I went out to my local Lowe's today and bought a few fan to test out. They had this exact same model and contrary to what people are saying here, it DOES NOT move a large volume of air.

I'm not saying that people here are lying or work for Lasko, but maybe they have just never had 3 diff models to test side by side. At the local store, they had the CFM ratings of each fan but this model wasn't listed, nor was any CFM rating found on the box. It's CFM rating is probably low so the Lasko probably doesn't want to advertise it.

Of the 3 models I tested, I kept the Feature Comforts model which moves about 3000 CFM of air. I live in a 4000 sq ft home and bought these to flush out the hot air when I get home from work so I can cool the house w/AC faster. I tested the fans by setting them up in the windows on the same wall and stepped back from the windows as far as I could till I could no longer feel the air being moved by each fan.

The Lasko model pushed air about 7ft till I could no longer feel anything. The Feature Comforts model pushed the air 29ft. The Feature Comforts model also had the most uniform airflow w/o any "dead spots" near the center of the airstream.

I would advise anyone to goto your local store and try the same, it costed me less than $70 to try the models I was interested in. The only problem is the hassle of boxing up the ones that didn't perform well and the cost of gas for returning it.

The Feature Comforts model number is 184705 and is an 18" fan. It's amazing that it can push 4x more air than the 20" Lasko model. Unfortunately, it's not on their website but it is available locally for only $24.

Hopefully, Lasko will read this review and improve their fans and have an indepedent lab rate its CFM and put it on the box for educated consumers.

"OK but rattles"
I use the box fan for white noise and to keep the air moving in my room while I sleep. This fan was more expensive than other fans I've bought at local department stores and it makes an annoying ticking noise. I can get rid of the ticking by either putting weight on it or slightly leaning it. I don't recommend it for people who use it for sleeping like me. It is OK for moving air but the high speed is like medium on other common box fans.

"wonderful sleeping fan"
I bought this fan after my 10 year old fan finally died on me. I use it every single night for at least 8 hours and it works beautifully. The sound is perfect for someone who uses it to cover up outside noises while sleeping or for the white noise effect. I would highly recommend this product.

"It's a fan."
No one else sells a fan in winter even though it is 80 degrees some places in november. It's a fan. It works. End of story.

"Big and powerful!"
It's a nice fan to have when the hot is here.
It's big enough, and moves nicely the air around. It takes off a lot of hot air.

What our customer's say!

"VERY good fan! Great Price too!", I was searching for a box fan that looked reliable, and was going to push a lot of air, and not sound like a warehouse in the process! This fan really did the trick! This fan pushes a good amount of air, even on medium! And, it does not make much noise!

I really love this fan, it is simple, and works great! The price rocks too! Not much else you can ask for!

"A fine fan but not really what they describe", This is a fine, basic box fan. I don't want the fan to be too quiet, and this one isn't. The low is low, and the high blocks out other noises. I use the fan both to move air into the house and to block out white noise, and this one does the trick.

But it's a basic box fan. There is no thermostat. The three modes are not particularly 'whisper quiet', as I've heard other box fans quieter and less powerful.

There's a knob on the top with three speeds and two plastic feet to help keep it from falling over.

That's all.

Which is exactly what I needed, for about the cheapest price I could find here on Amazon.

It's just not really what the description notes.

"Great Kitchen Exaust Fan", With no range hood in my city apartment, I've run these [at Mid Speed] pritty much 24/7 in my kitchen window for decades, sucking fresh air thru the rest of the apartment while expelling stove heat & air-borne greece, etc.

I'm comfortable with this because it's relativly easy to take the motor apart for a simple cleaning about once every 9 months [or so]. I've also added 2 circular layers of the old, cheap, black, 'washable' air-conditioner filter material between the back of the motor and the interior protective grill to lessen the amoung of gunk sucked into the motor.

What with the cooking, this filter and, for esthetics, the inside grill are also removed & cleaned in the bath tub 3 or 4 times a year. The grills are a pain as soaps are only partly effective & brushes don't quite serve for the tiny grill opening.

With all this beating, the fans have all lasted an astonishing 5yrs++ !

BTW: To deaden vibration noise, etc. I hang the fan from 2 springs at the top of the window. I noted that with the fan running I could feel air being sucked in from outside around the sides of the fan so I've made a clear plastic shroud to block these areas for greater efficiency. I've also taped bits of this plastic on the 4 corners of the inside grill wher some more air circled in & out.

"Moves enough air without becoming super-loud", This fan works as advertised, and like any box fan makes some noise when running. I do think it's quieter than the cheap Sears fan I bought 5 years ago, but it probably moves a little less air. Airflow is sufficient to cool a large bedroom pretty well though. I'd recommend giving this fan a try...anything with more airflow will become exponentially louder. I'm not sure though that the Amazon fan at this price is much different than the Lasko fans at some large brick and motar stores for somewhat less.

"very nice fan!", This fan is very quiet and blows a nice breeze. It is not as good as the preimium box fan but I still like this fan. Some people are saying that this fan is loud but I don't see how loud it is. It realy has a nice quiet sound to it and it moves a nice amount of air. GREAT FAN!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Dissapointing & Broken", The quality of this product was very dissapointing compared to previous fans that we have owned for a similar price. The fan came bent from the packaging and the fan itself when turned on scraped the side of the metal frame. Although our expectations were not high for this fan, we were not happy with the final product.

"Lasko sells these fans without even trying--and that's no small feat !!!", This three speed box fan by Lasko is exactly the way it is advertised here. It comes already assembled so setup is a breeze--just remove it from the box, set it up on a table and turn it on! The three speeds all operate relatively quietly and the fan gets the air circulating rather quickly.

The price is right for what you get: it works strong and hard to create good air flow. The box fan also cools the room down on days when you can't use an air conditioner or when you simply don't want to use one. Moreover, like other reviewers have noted, it blocks out sounds and it's even nice to have it on while I'm sleeping!

I recommend that the fan stand on a flat surface about three or four feet high so that the air current it creates reaches you whether you're lying down or walking around the room. It is economical in that it won't make your electric bill spike upward, too.

Overall, this is a great fan and I highly recommend it as one of the best fans out there in this size and price range. It will not disappoint you!

"Lasko 20 Inch 3 speed box fan", This is a nice light weight box fan that I use in the doorway of a bedroom at night that doesn't have an air conditioner, and it pulls the air in nicely and is not too loud. Easy to move and use.

"What a Breeze!", This fan is awesome! It is relatively inexpensive, powerful and always helps put us and our baby to sleep! Only had a problem once (we buy two new ones a year), when the motor emitted some funky smell upon first use. But shopping with Amazon made it easy, they sent me a new one before I even returned the defective one all free of shipping charges.

"not the fan shown on the website", I just received this fan and have unpacked it and turned it on.
It works OK and is 3-speed as advertized BUT it is not the fan shown in
the photo on the Amazon website. I paid $25 for the fan and it appears to
be a 'standard $20 box fan". I had expected to receive something a bit better than what has arrived. I will keep it, but I am disappointed.
