Others say...

"Very nice knife"
This knife has had consistent performance when cutting breads and cakes. I've had the knife for almost a year and it cuts as well now as it did when I bought it. I've also bought one for my mother-in-law and she is in love with this knife as well. It's definitely been money well spent.

"Excellent bread knife"
I have had this knife for over two years and routinely use it to slice bread and to chop hard chocolate. Although some of the points of the serrations have dulled (probably due more to the chocolate than the bread), the knife still slices through a hard baguette (or even a tomato) with ease.

The JA Henckels International branded knives are less expensive and feel less substantial than the more expensive Twin/4 Star/5 Star etc. series, but this bread knife gets the job done. I have top-of-the-line Shun chef's and santoku knives which I love, but I would never consider 'upgrading' to a top-of-the-line bread knife because I can't imagine it performing any better than this one.

"Three strikes and it was gone"
This knife gave a performance roughly equal to what I paid for it. Bread knives aren't really precision cutting tools, they basically need to be able to get a good grip on a hard surface and not make too many crumbs. On both these counts this knife was not successful. The blade is rather thick and as a result converts a lot of whatever it cuts to crumbs. More importantly, the serrations did not stay sharp and had a tendency to slip. After three people, myself included, got cut as a result of the knife slipping on hard bread or a bagel that was the end. I replaced the knife with a Suisin bread knife, which, while more expensive and a little hard to find, is far better as a bread knife.

"Best knife ever, worth $50, costs 10"
I've had this knife for years, use it for everything and couldn't be happier. I thought it would dull easily or wear down, after all it's only $10, but I was wrong. Simply fantastic for cutting bread, but also useful for vegetables and other tasks. The only thing it doesn't cut well is meat.

"Beware not true Henckels"
People are confused about Henckels.....JA Henckels (the good one) and Henckels Internationl (crap) ARE NOT THE SAME THING! JA Henckels is top quality and made of high carbon steel and very pricy, but the Henckels Internationl like this knife is just stamped cheap steel like any other generic cheap knife. Just though I would let you know...thats why there is such a big price difference.

What our customer's say!

"Works fine", Unbeatable for the price. I cut everything with it, bread, fruit, vegetables... At first there were small residues of metal between the different 'teeth' and I though that it did not come in proper working order. But once you manage to clean that out (which does require a bit of effort), it cuts as it should without leaving any metal residue.

"Good Quality Works for Variety of Breads", I really like this bread knife. It is a large size and feels good in my hands. It is good for slicing a variety of breads. I espeically like the way it doesn't tear loaf breads like banana and zucchini. It is good for delicate quick breads like scones and it works easily on hard rolls. I am pleased with this purchase and I do recommend Henckels products.

"Heavy bread knife", It looks like a lower quality product from J.A. Henckels. The knife is heavier and thicker than I expected. Not much to say about this product.

"Really nice bread knife", I purchased this bread knife along with the 3 piece gift set (twin Henckels). This slices through the bread with no effort. I would recommend it. I also love the 3 piece set. Better than any knives I've had. I've only had them for a week, so I don't know how often they'll need sharpening. I am being careful to use the recommended boards and hand washing them.

"Fake!", Please be aware this is not a J.A. Henckels knife. It is a very cheap imitation and not worth a cent!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Just what I was hoping for....", This knife was exactly what I was looking for. It cuts through bread and tomatoes like a hot knife in butter. I love it!

"You get what you pay for", Although it cut great at first, within a couple of months it wasn't cutting much better than the cheap, generic bread knife it had replaced. At $10 or less, it's a decent knife but don't expect it to hold its edge for long. Henckels or not, it's still a low-grade knife.

"Cheap price, not a cheap knife", I have been wanting a Henckel bread knife for some time, and even had it on my Christmas list, but no one took the hint. When I came across this one for $9.99 at Amazon I was very skeptical, but after reading the other reviews I decided to order it. When it arrived I immediately opened the box to check it out. I found it to be a good size, feels good in my hand, is very well weighted, and after washing and drying it, put it to the test. I sliced into a tomato, and it worked beautifully----I can make very thin slices without smushing. Then, I peeled and sliced a grapefruit with it---lovely. I still haven't used it on bread, but will as soon as I have time to make some crusty peasant herb bread or a loaf of focaccia. I have made a gazillion purchases from Amazon, everything from books to phones, toys, cutting boards, flatware, videos, yoga mats, all kinds of goodies, but have never felt compeled to write a review until now. That should tell you how much I love this knife. I did not give it five stars only because I assume the German made version must be superior---but then look at the cost. This is one of my happier purchases from Amazon. If you would like a great bread knife to use on bread, slice sandwiches, tomatoes, fruit, etc., get this one. For ten bucks it's a steal. And if you should see bread knife on someone's wish list, give them this one.

"it's a bread knife and it works...that's all", no complaints, no praises...other than it cuts bread. When I shopped, this seemed like the best priced bread knife. It works perfectly, but if there's cheaper out there...unless you're set on the looks of this one, get the cheaper one. They're bread knives - they have to be very good to do what they're supposed to do.

"Please pass the bread", Works like a charm for cutting. I recievea breadmaker sometime back, and loved it. But when I would use a regular knife to divy out pieces, the bread would end up smooshed. My only gripe is that it rusted after about 6 washings. It cost so little, and it still works, so it is small complaint.
