Others say...
"Wonderful Quality" This is an impressive pastry board. It is definitely worth the money. The wood is gorgeous and the board is heavy. "A quality product" This board has become indispensible in my kitchen and I use it constantly. My only regret is I didn't discover it years before. "Nice pastry board, but not a cutting board" As advertised, this is a pastry board: it is *not* a cutting board. It has no grooves, and is not end-cut (so will tend to warp if it gets a lot of liquid on it over time). It is quite large, and the markings are very useful, with one exception: they tried to include both English and Metric units, but arranged them wrong! The English units are *only* lengthwise along the board, and the Metric are *only* width-wise -- that doesn't make any sense: if you were using one set of units (and who isn't!!) you want to use the same units for both dimensions. I don't roll out 12 inch by 30 centimeter crusts! Also, it has no feet, so you will want to place a wet towel under it while you are rolling things out to keep it from slipping. Pros: 1) Large, sturdy board 2) Useful markings for rolling pie crust 3) Overall high quality and good for what it is advertised for Cons: 1) Not useful as a cutting board (but they don't advertise it as such) 2) Inclusion of two unit systems is not useful as laid out on the board 3) No feet, so need a non-skid pad when working " Pastry board" I own aboard like this for years and I lost it in my move; I was thrill to be able to get a new one; the best board made. Susan Carver "A must have!!!!" Light weight, so easy to use. I love the graphics, they are so useful. Cleans with ease.

What our customer's say! "pastry board", I have been looking for a board like this to send my daughter-in-law for years. This is a beaut, pay attention to the "mineral oil" requirements, and all will probably enjoy this as much as can be done. It isn't a "cutting board", but if one wished to do so the opposite side from the pattern would be the best place it seems to myself. You can always "hide" the scars you make by keeping one side for pastry, and the other for a "cutting board". Just keep them lightly oiled after washing them; either side. The board should last a lifetime if well cared for. If abused it won't last a generation. "Just perfect", I'm a constant cook, which means I'm always in the kitchen. I moved and needed to protect a new kitchen island and bought three or four different boards out there in the brick and mortar. All of them curled. It has something to do [so I think] with the carved runnel on one side, but what ever, a curved board is no good at all, and I just couldn't find a runnel-less one. This one lays flat and it looks good as well. So I'm happy. Update: A few months down the road I'm sorry to say that this one curls as well. Bummer. "Pastry Board", I really needed a pastry board and this one met my needs. The only slightly negative thing I noticed was some roughness of the wood. I felt it could have been sanded better and there were a couple of idents on one of the corners. Otherwise, this is an very nice product. "pastry board", I bought this board for my daughter for Christmas. She has not used it yet. What held her back was that the finish is VERY rough. She tried oiling it, but that did not help smooth out the finish. "Warps, not a cutting board", I bought this product as a pastry board and cutting board. I found it fine for pastry, although it almost immediately needed an oil surface treatment. A little scrubbing is needed to get the flour and bits out of the markings which are imbedded in. If you use the markings, you will find yourself converting to metric or rolling sidewise to use the side markings which are oddly placed. Otherwise, it was sturdy enough and a good size for most home baking needs. However, it should NOT be used as a cutting board. It can't be cleaned with even a small amount of soap and water without warping. It seems to be the way it's put together. I flattened it back out with some heavy pots, but when I lifted them off and let it sit it started to warp again. While a lot of the reviews have mentioned the other uses, it is NOT listed as a cutting board for a good reason. This really should have been made more clear. Otherwise, a good pastry board for the price. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Nice pastry board", I'd like to first correct the popular but old April 1, 2001 review. This board no longer has grooves on the other side; it's just a smooth surface, but that's still very usable. Second, it does come with an insert that you can mail out for an 8oz bottle of Catskill Butcher Block Oil for $4.95, which seems to be roughly the price that goes for online, but this includes the cost of shipping. The instructions printed on the board are convenient, but a little dough can get stuck in these slight impressions, which a dough scraper will glide over. Lastly, my board had a small .5cm splinter off to the side that my scraper got caught on. I'll have to sand that portion down now. All that said, for the low price of 17 dollars I paid, this is a very nice, large pastry board. "nice multi-use wood cutting board", This was exactly as described. inexpensive, dense wood cutting board on one side with a nice pastry board on the other. the wood has an attractive grain that is not out of place on the counter full-time. "Fabulous", I was about to buy a big board with the backsplash and the extra "lip" on the front to keep it in place but when I saw this one for a fraction of the cost I went for it and I am glad I did. All I had to do was put a thick cotton placemat under the board and it does not slide at all. And now that I think about it wouldn't that backsplash on some models get in the way of my rolling pin? The manufacturer included a coupon to get a bottle of oil for the cost of shipping alone so I went for that deal and it came in the mail within a week. I am delighted with this board and am so looking forward to making Christmas cookies on it!! "Great product", Based on the other reviews posted, I purchased this board and am extremely pleased with it. It's nice and big for rolling out all kinds of doughs. You may have to make room in your cabinet to store it if you don't want it on your counter all the time, but it is worth the trouble. Also it washes up nicely. "Jonny says...", I think this is an excellent product - esp. for the value. Williams-Sonoma has one for like 80 bucks, and it's better, but too expensive. For the price I am very pleased and would not trade it in for the WS model. I also like that it is made in NY state - more an more things today are made by people of other lands so it's nice to keep Americans working. This type of pastry board is very handy for making crusts - of which I make a lot. THe recipe on the board is what I use but I add 1 tsp of sugar and I usually use 1 stick of unsalted butter instead of all Crisco. People love my pies so I must be doing something right... ![]() |
