Others say...

"it makes coffee"
good product, does what it is supposed to do. will keep coffee hot longer than the other types

"I've got three of these"
Been making coffee with a press for 30 years, and have broken many a bodum gass carafe. Got one of these first for camping trips (kayak camping lets you take a few amenities) and quickly got another for home, and a spare (they were on sale). This is bulletproof, makes great coffee, and keeps it warm long enough for a top up. It is NOT a travel mug, or an all day carafe, or a boat bailer - one star only for those who bought it for those purposes. I give it 4 stars only because the screen does wear down around the edges - perhaps stainless steel is rougher than glass, and I can't find a source of replacements. Thanks to the reviewer who pointed out that bodum filters fit - we've got a few of those laying around, and they are available separately right here at amazon.

"Delicious and unbreakable!"
We love our new French press. It's unbreakable (unlike the three glass predecessors), it keeps the coffee hot for hours, and it makes a smoooooth cup of coffee. It's also easy to transport (for weekends away and time at the beach). This is a definite winner!

"This is my daily coffee machine in the office"
I work in an office that does not allow individuals to have their own coffee machine due to fire concerns. Rather, they offer free coffee (ahem, if THAT stuff could be called anything other than hot colored water).
So, the french press is the way to go, and this thermos keeps the coffee hot just long enough for me, which is about 2 hours (don't know why they claim 6 hours, mine is OK for 2-3 hours). I have seen some negative reviews of this product, and I think those folks need to take a minute to work with the product a bit more. Here are my recommendations:
1. If it leaks coffee grinds, then look at the screen. There should be NO bends in the screen along the coil. This is where coffee grinds can leak through. Nissan should replace the screen for you free of charge if you receive a defective screen, which is not all that uncommon. You can also buy replacement screens at local kitchen supply places.
2. If you don't like the super-fine grained coffee that still gets through (I am like this), then do what I do. I place a regular paper coffee filter on top of the grinds prior to placing the screen on top. This does a fantastic job for me. It slows the press a lot, but the extra 10 seconds of press time is worth it in my mind.
3. Rinse the thing with HOT water prior to adding your coffee water. It makes a difference in my experience and helps make for a hotter cup of coffee.
4. Make sure the water you use is HOT. Be careful of some office coffee machines that have a hot water tap on them. This is usually not hot enough for coffee. You may want to use a separate container for microwaving your water to boiling hot before pouring into this container. This is true for all french presses, but the added thermal capacity of this stainless steel model cools the water slightly, so it helps.
5. Between pours, rotate the lid closed so that it is sealed off and won't cool down as quickly. I usually forget to do this, but when I remember, I get warm coffee for almost 3 hours.

In summary, I get fantastic coffee with mine. For those of you that don't, maybe try a few of these tips.

I would give this 5 stars, but I believe they ship too many of these with faulty screens that need replacement (the small bends in the screen near the coil can let grinds come through). This is a minor complaint for the price, though, as replacements are readily available if you don't want to wait for Nissan to send you a replacement.

"Americanized press."
Not a true french press in that it just presses most of the grounds to the bottom of the pot and leaves the brew standing on the grounds. For a fast couple of cups, it is good.

What our customer's say!

"I am happy with this product", I bought this coffee press to take camping and it has worked out well. Note: buy coffee ground a bit coarser than drip grind because the smaller grind will yield to grounds in your cup.

"Press *very* slowly!", I bought this after having borrowed a friend's Bodum Chambord 8-Cup Coffee Press, and so far I am pretty impressed with Thermos's version. The 34oz in particular makes enough for around 3 extremely large cups --- and keeps it hot for hours (with a Bodum, you need to transfer the coffee into a thermos, else it cools down after the first cup is gone).

At first, I was mildly disappointed with Thermos's press upon realizing that the filter wasn't doing quite as good of a job as Bodum's as far as keeping the coffee grounds back. However, the slower you press on Thermos's model, the better its filter works. Seriously -- don't rush the thing, despite the coffee-coma in the morning. I found that the best results occur when, after waiting the customary 3-4 minutes for the coffee to "brew," pull up on the lid --- but not the filter; they operate separately --- and slowly push the filter down about an inch into the liquid in order to start it. Then you can put the lid back down and proceed pressing v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y.

"I was surprised to be so impressed!", I never expected to be so pleased with a product! We spend weekends on our boat and got tired of the time it took to make coffee in a stove top percolator. We had just been introduced to french press coffee and fell in love! We thought it would be to good to be true to find an insulated one, So we googled and there it was! We drink the coffee within an hour or two and it has always been hot and tasty. The pot is very easy to clean, not to mention space saving compared to a keeping both a coffee pot and carafe on board.

"Thermos Nissan 34oz Vacuum Insulated Coffee Press", This thermos coffee press performs exactly as advertised. It is well made and the press fits tight. Even with a fairly fine grind, few coffee grounds get poured into your cup. The thermos keeps coffee drinkably warm for hours, and it cleans up quick and easy. I've got several coffee and espresso makers, but this little thermos press is perfect when I want a couple of quick cups I can take into the car or out to the patio.

"Hey, for 30 bucks it's pretty awesome.", Definitely keeps coffee hot for a couple hours. Some grounds get into the cup but that's pretty normal in my experience of french presses. I sometimes just put a filter under the press and it pretty much solves that issue. I think it is an outstanding value for the price.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Do not buy--leaks like a sieve", Top does not screw on, and because of this, the contain will leak if you turn it on the side or accidentally knock it over. I do not know how it could ever be insulated with this poor a connection at the top. All of the heat would bypass the insulation and go straight out the lid. Do not ever buy. You will be wasting your money.

"Outside Thermos - inside lukewarm", We have prepared our coffee for years with a cheap French Coffee Press (Glass body & plastic plunger). The downside was always, that the coffee turned cold faster than you could drink it. So we started looking for an alternative and decided to buy the Thermos Nissan 1.0 L /34 oz. Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Gourmet Coffee Press. As we are using several other Thermos products in our household we have had certain expectations.

Plus:
We received a Thermos product that fulfilled the expectations we had - from the outside. Nice looking, good quality, solid etc.

Minus:
It's somewhat obvious, that the persons that have "designed" this specific French Coffee Press HAVE never used it themselves.

1. The lid is made of thin plastic (approx. 1/10 inch) resulting in a total heat loss within 30 - 40 minutes (The Thermos thermal performance rating says 6 hours) - in other words, the coffee is lukewarm or cold after 30 - 40 minutes.

2. The plunger with the mesh does not keep the coffee powder where it is supposed to be. So if you like your coffee without any sediments, use a tea strainer while pouring the coffee into your cup.

3. The whole pressing mechanic (plunger & mesh) is obviously NOT from Thermos nor has been designed for Thermos and degrades this product to 1 star (*).

What could be a close to perfect product unfortunately turns out to be a total looser.

"great hot coffee", The coffee stays hot long enough to drink it all; even with a busy day at work. One drawback is that the screen wrinkles around the edges and lets some grounds through, but not enough to ruin the cup of coffee.

"Thermos Nissan 1.0 L/34 oz. A bit too big", This thermos makes really good coffee but it is much larger than I expected. If you want to make a few cups for sitting around the house and have it stay hot, but it. If you want coffee to go, the thing is just too big and bulky to bring with. Also, it's not a mug from which you can drink out of. You have to poor the coffee into a cup or mug and the top doesn't seal so if you stick it in a briefcase it will spill.

"mediocre", This seemed like the ideal coffee maker for work, since it is a French press and thermal carafe, all at once. So far, I am not so sure. It does not keep the coffee as hot as a traditional thermos, but I think that is inherent in the cylindrical shape needed to make the French press work. Also, a lot of grounds are making it past the screen. I am going to try a courser grind - that may help. I have been using auto-drip grind.
