"Not bad"
Maybe I was expecting a little more. The clear plastic body is not 100% rigid, the chromed metal parts seem to be zinc or pot metal and are not crisply cast. You would think the handle would have an actual rotating knob, but it is all one piece.

The top ring rotates for settings fine, medium and coarse. This is a nice feature, better than the usual inaccurate knob-tightening control on most grinders. However, it sometimes rotates around to different settings as you are grinding, so you have to pay attention. This is not really a big problem or anything, but it shouldn't happen.

It is pretty small and the crank is not so long. You don't have that much leverage. This makes grinding a little jerky and perhaps a touch difficult for weak people.

You do get some colorful peppercorns, not cheap at stores these days, and it doesn't seem as though its shortcomings will cause it to break.

Its actual purpose in life is to crush pepper and it does that quite well. Perhaps the larger models would be better for some people, but I like this style and size for my kitchen.

"Simple but nice"
Wider than it looks, this pepper mill holds a good 2-3 oz. of peppercorns and puts out a fine stream of ground pepper with very little effort. My wife and I got tired of twisting a round grinder top. The style is OK, if uninspired, and if results are what you want in the kitchen, this clear acrylic and chrome grinder does a good job. With similar pepper bulk/pound costing $12+, a grinder full of gourmet pepper is a nice find.

"This one does the job."
We could not find a pepper mill anywhere that we liked. Some "cute" style pepper mills just did not work. This does the job very well and also allows for three variable grinds: fine, medium, and coarse. I love fresh ground pepper and this mill works very well.

"Finally!!!"
Finally found a great pepper grinder which is inexpensive, cute and works like a charm! Very pleased with the product, especially after having bought so many DUDS. You wouldn't think it would be so hard to find a good pepper grinder! Very pleased with the product.

"Love it!"
See I love this little grinder. It really is so helpful when I am cooking... opposed to constantly twisting. I also love the fine, course, medium setting. I did not have any problem with the knob on the top becoming loose. I also love the crushing mechanism rather than the conventional grinding that comes with others. I wish it was cheaper so that I could get a salt one as well. Come on Amazon.. sell the salt mill.

What our customer's say!

"Lasts a long time", My old William Bounds pepper mill just broke after 14 plus years of frequent use. A small piece of plastic came off the bottom, but the mechanism for grinding was still intact. We just purchased another one to replace it. The small size and variable pepper coarseness knob are great.

"Fabulous product, but doesn't last long", I bought this in January with a gift certificate I got to a cooking store. I have loved it ever since. I use a lot of black pepper in my cooking and it completely suits my needs as it is very easy to grind a lot of pepper quickly and easily. However, just now, as I was making salsa, the bottom of it cracked, a chunk of plastic fell out and peppercorns fell in my salsa... I had to pick peppercorns & fish a piece of plastic out of my salsa. I am so disappointed. I haven't even owned it a year and it's broken already.

"A good pepper mill", I searched for quite some time for a usable pepper mill that one did not have to have the strength of 10,000 in order to operate. The William Bounds Key Mill WB-1 Pepper Mill fit the bill to a tee. I have arthritis in my hands and this pepper mill is very easily turned for both a fine grind and a coarse grind. I enjoy cooking and a great many recipes call for a fresh grind and now I can accommodate this particular component of the recipe. I recommend this pepper mill.

"Finally, an excellent pepper mill", My thanks to Cooks Illustrated for praising William Bounds mills. It is actually possible to select fine, medium, or coarse grind and get it. As it comes with a mix of quality peppers, I haven't checked the ease of fill. This works the way it should, and looks good, too.

"Quality construction", "Built like a tank", of chrome-plated steel and heavy-guage polycarbonate (which has the look and feel of glass).

There's nothing quite like the herbal aroma and flavor of fresh-ground pepper, and this unit makes it easy to enjoy. The handle provides plenty of leverage for grinding the peppercorns with a minimum of physical effort. The only minor disadvantage is that, as this is a fairly compact unit, it is tricky to refill via the rather restricted opening at the top, and you should consider purchasing a funnel along with the peppermill.

"Pretty, but average", This is the second William Bounds grinder like this I bought. I've had the other, which is almost identical but wooden instead of clear, and it's worked very well for the four or five years I've had it. This one doesn't "feel" like quite the same quality, and (oddly) the knob on top works its way loose after a while. I love the coarseness settings and being able to see what type of pepper is in the grinder. It's definitely difficult to fill, but my old one has the same problem -- I set the grinder in a bowl, and use a funnel to carefully fill it.

"Pretty little thing", Mom was thrilled at receiving this for Christmas - the fact that it comes filled with a pretty mixture of peppercorns adds to its appeal. A test grind showed a nice medium grind, and adjustment seemed not too difficult. I was a little surprised at the small size of it, but there doesn't seem to be much availale in a middle size. Its nice to be able to see when you're out of peppercorns, but filling it is as much a pain as filling any other peppermill - the darn little peppercorns escape so quickly and roll everywhere!
Still, it looks very classy and functions perfectly well.
