Others say...
"A lot of shot in a little espresso pot" For those of you interested in taste and price over showiness, this little 18 bar semi-automatic delivers taste superior to most automatic machines costing a lot more. Just remember, always turn the crank COUNTER CLOCKWISE, or you'll be facing a repair bill! "Very good everyday Epresso maker!!" I got this espresso maker in February. And I have been making one cup (3 scoop in two installments) per day, unless I am on the road. The best thing about this machine, is how quick you can make a cup of espresso. I only have a few minutes each morning to get my latte and finish breakfast. Without this machine, it is impossible for me to enjoy latte every day. As other reviewers pointed out, the foam/steam milk feature does drip some water in the beginning every time. My solution is simple: using a separate cup for the first 30 seconds, turn the steam milk function off, switch to the cup with milk and turn it on. it works for me. I clean the tray every week and so far (March 29, two months since), I have cleaned up the machine once with white vinegar and water, as instructed. I highly recommend this machine. it is one of the best investment I have made. I have a question though: does anyone have a recommendation of good espresso coffee brand (those without the typical American coffee's bitterness), which hopefully is less expensive than illy's? Thanks! "Makes good coffee but VERY unreliable!" I purchased this machine in January 2008 and right out of the box the frother did not work. I had to go through the hassle of returning it and then waiting 2 months for a new one to be sent to me. When this machine works, it produces good coffee and cappuccino. It is fairly easy to use and clean. However, too frequently it simply does not work. You put the coffee in, turn on the pump and voila...nothing happens. Rather than the water dripping through the coffee and into your cup, it ends up in the waste tray. Sometimes it works ok and other times I can try 3 or 4 times in a row without it producing a single cup of coffee. This is extremely frustrating not only because you'll waste a great deal of coffee, but also, if you are like me, you're often in a hurry in the morning and don't have time for this hassle trying to produce a single cup of coffee. This problem also requires you to clean out the machine frequently because the waste tray quickly fills up with grounds and liquid. When the machine is functioning properly, only the spent grounds should end up in the waste tray. I tried different grinds as Capresso will probably tell you the cause of the problem is the grind was too fine. This simply was not the case. For experimental purposes, I ground some coffee that was extremely course and the machine still failed to produce any coffee. Maybe I have another bad machine, but my patience has worn out! "Better than a base model coffee brewer" Okay, first off, I'm no Barista expert. And I Was given this as a present, so I have to keep it. But it does not make espresso, despite the price and rave reviews. I'm sure there are ways I could improve my practices and get a somewhat better cup, but I'm not impressed. It is a really nice concept to have this nice automated machine and not have to bother with portafilters, fussy grinds, and proper temperature. But for a higher priced pump machine, I expected better. When you first start the process, you get a nice dark shot of espresso, for about 5 seconds, then lots of pale coffee colored water and no crema. The longer you let it run, the worse the extract gets. And as others have mentioned, the steamer spits water for the first few seconds, so if you don't want that better catch and discard. Overall, I'm considering replacing it with a better reviewed model? "Cheaply made product" Well, like others here, I really wanted to like this product. And like so many espresso machine buyers, I came back from Italy with hopes of brewing the perfect espresso. I ordered this machine with high hopes for Valentine's Day and although it arrived right on time (thanks Amazon) the pump did not function and I spent a half a day trying to figure out if it was me or the darn machine - I called customer service from Capresso and they were very eager to help me, ultimately telling me they'd send a new body right away. However, the next day they called again and let me know it'd be early March before they could ship out the part. So, I returned it to Amazon and ordered a new one, it also came rush order (Thanks again, Amazon), and this one would not switch from steam to coffee - it was stuck on hot water. I believe this product is just too cheaply made, which is just too bad - this company is supposed to be Swiss, but this machine was made in China. I give up - [...]

What our customer's say! "Simply Awesome", Buying this machine was one of the nicest things I've ever done for myself! It took a while to get the hang of using it - which way to crank the knob, which lever to use, etc., but the design is really ingenious. No more tamping, and super easy cleanup. I take it apart and clean it really well about once a week; in between I simply rinse out the drip tray and the container that holds the used grounds when the red light indicates it needs to be emptied. You do have to clean the steam spout after each use so that it doesn't get clogged or stuck on the machine, which only takes a minute. I was hooked on lattes from Caribou, but the ones I make at home taste even better - at a very small fraction of the price. You get a very smooth, rich espresso flavor, and you can enjoy your coffee anytime - even when you're too tired to go out and get a latte! I bought it several months ago, and it has already more than paid for itself. Go ahead and get it - you'll only be sorry that you didn't do it sooner! "Good Expresso, but be careful with amount of coffee used", I like the expresso & the steamer used for heating the milk, they work great, but if you put just a little too much coffee in, the machine will brew it to the discard bin & the tray. It has done this several times & sometimes I have had to do what you do when it is first used. Don't put anything in the coffee loading area & push the plunger down & then brew, I have had to do this to get it brewing the right way. Needless to say I try not to overfill with coffee. But I do like it very much & am glad I got it, maybe mine is just super sensitive. "Every Day Luxury", I'm not going to lie to you, this is the best kitchen appliance I own. I have had my Capresso Espresso machine for 6 years & I use it every day! I absolutely love it. It is soooo easy to use that you can literally make your morning espresso, put it in your to-go cup & be out the door in 2 minutes! I chose this machine because of it's fast & easy - every day quality. I have a friend that is from Europe & he decided to get a more traditional espresso maker because he wants the ability to make turkish coffee once in a while & this Capresso model won't handle that fine of coffee grind. But I have to tell you - I use my machine everyday without a big mess - literally fill the water once a week & dump the grinds twice a week & you are good to go -- he barely uses his machine because it takes so long & is so messy. Because the Capresso is so fast & easy to use you can easily make espressos (or Irish Coffees) for your guests & not miss the party. My friend's machine does not lend itself to this as each cup takes so long to make. And 6 years -- come on - totally hassle free espresso every day for 6 years -- I could practically put a kid through college with what I've saved on Starbucks! "Cappuccino every morning.", I love this machine! I've been using it for 2 months, and have no complaints so far. It's very easy to use and clean. I've never thought that making cappuccino could be so easy. I drink it every morning now. I should mention though that I don't like extremely hot coffee. So if you do, don't rely on my review. "Great machine", This machine really does its job. Great result. We love cappuccino. But it's a bit diificult to work the machine. So far we're happy with this model. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "The Best Period", Hello from the true coffee capital of America, I recieved a Krups machine as a gift and promptly returned it and ordered this one as a replacement. I new nothing about this machine except that it was the same price as the Krups, I had my eye on the Breville or a super-auto but after talking to a person who owned this machine and reading all the reviews I got excited about my choice. So after a month let me say I love it! Whats more I would like to dispell some of the bad reviews or points. First it Does Not make cold coffee, people are using cold cups; there is virtually no machine out there that does not require preheated cups the ceramic soaks it all up from the coffee. Second, one reviewer said it does not make true espresso Baloney! Its simple really, if you have the right beans, the right ground and at least 1 bar of pressure( which is what the manual machines use)you are making espresso. Water, grinder and beans are way more important, simply put the coffee is delicious. People have complained about the price and that it is plastic well I have looked a hunderds of machines and this is at the low end of price range and the Super-autos that cost thousands are made of guess what, Plastic. The people that had bad experiances just had a lemon machine, further more customer service was outstanding. I can echo virtually all the good reviews and I would like to point out some what I like. This thing is so quick, the other top machine out there the Rancio Silvia takes ten minutes to heat up, who needs that, at six A.M. I could drive and get coffee faster than that. This thing takes 1-5 mintues for awesome coffee and no waiting on steam like more expensive machines make you pay extra for, the froth is incredible. After using the regular style semi-auto with the filter holder and banging out your used puck(what a mess)I'll never go back. I love that it does NOT have a built in grinder this allows me to freshly grind each cup and make coffee to order fresh, like its supposed to be (reg, decaf or half-caf)plus your beans don't sit out in the air and get stale. Again you can get a by pass on the bean hopper of a super-auto but guess what, you'll pay for it. This machine is so easy to use their is zero learning curve I am not sure why people say it takes a while to get the hang of to put it bluntly a caveman could do it and as the other reviewer said this IS the only machine you want to see at 5AM. Last id like to point out the longevity of this machine a guy on another site said he had his for seven years now with some minor replacement of parts. I clean mine every night which takes a whopping fives minuters tops. Trust me buy this machine dont waste your money on coutertop ornaments. Get a good burr grinder, filter your water and baby this thing and you will be rewarded. "Great taste and convenience without compromise", I have been using this machine for a month now to make espresso, latte, and crema coffee everyday. After using a manual pump-driven espresso machine for a while, I decided that I wanted something more automatic to avoid having to clean up after each use. Fully automatic machines come at hefty prices for its convenience, so I was elated to find this machine at more reasonable price. You can make many cups of espresso before having to empty the waste bin or drip tray. This is nice when you have to serve a few guests at once, and you can make a quick cup in busy mornings without worrying about clean-up. If three simple yet almost fun steps (1.put espresso, 2.turn knob and press down, 3.lift knob and rotate the upper plate when done) don't bug you, you can save $500 or more from a fully automatic machine. That it can make good crema coffee is another plus. I could put away my drip coffee maker to save kitchen space. You can use regular fine ground (non-espresso roast) coffee with this machine: make it just like espresso but don't over-extract to avoid bitter taste. Then add 2-3 oz of hot water from the froth wand (another plus). Crema coffee is much richer than brew coffee and is very addictive. The fact that you use the push-down lever to tamp instead of single or double shot sized metal filter 'cup' is another advantage to the manual machines; you have greater flexibility of adjusting the espresso or coffee strength by adding more or less coffee without losing the pressure. Some may want the cup warming feature of fully automatic machine, but I use the hot water feature to warm up my cup, which takes only a few seconds. Most important, it makes great espresso. I've noticed it makes finer crema than other high end manual machines, enhancing its taste. $300 isn't cheap, but if you can enjoy espresso with minimal hassle every day, you get more out of it than many other tools you have and use, eh, maybe once every six months. My friend has been using it everyday for years and it's still working fine. Downside: you end up drinking more espresso since it's so easy to make one. Be ready to buy more espresso beans.... "Flat out great coffee", Have had ours now for over a year. No problems. You need to experiment with coffee grind size and amount. If the grounds are too fine, you won't get any flow and the coffee will over-flow internally into the grounds catcher. If the grounds are to coarse, the coffee will flow too fast and will overflow the spout, creating three streams instead of two, and weak coffee. I've had good luck setting the grinders I've used on the middle setting and working from there. I find the correct grind usually turns out to be a bit coarser than you would expect. We boil water in our cups in the microwave to warm them before brewing coffee into them. However, I have a friend with one who finds the temperature to be just fine. Once you get all things worked out correctly, prepare to become a huge coffee snob. You will be able to make coffee that is better than almost anybody's any time you want. I clean ours about once every two weeks. We brew between 6 and 10 cups per day with it. We've been known to take ours on trips because we can't stand to have bad coffee, or pay $3 per cup for inferior coffee. I've been using dark-roast beans from Trader Joe's and have been very happy. Try the Volcano brand for real eye opener. My wife was initially intimidated by this machine but now is a real pro, she took to it almost immediately. "Good, not great", This machine is low maintenance and produces good coffee. If you like strong coffee - not for you. If you like really hot coffee - not for you. The convenience of making a good cup is worth the other parts lacking. I have tried to my starbucks ground coffee fine to get it stronger and it is hit/miss. No doubt worth the money especially if you need and easy way to make expresso. "Very impressed.", I bought this machine almost 4 years ago now and have never had a problem with it. It's easy to use, easy to clean and easy to mass produce coffee for events in my home. The best part... you can stick most parts in the dish washer. All this w/o the BIG sticker price of a full blown machine. I truly enjoy it and would by it all over again. ![]() |
