Others say...
"Good but I like the NordicWare better" I previously had and was very happy with the Nordic Ware 12-Cup Microwaver Corn Popper but I dropped it onto the floor and the corner cracked. I bought Presto as a replacement because I could not find the NordicWare in any of my local stores. The Presto works as advertised but I like the NordicWare better. The NordicWare is much simpler to use, it consists of just two pieces - the popping bowl and the lid, whereas the Presto consists of a base (called the Powerbase concentrator), a popping bowl which attachs to the base, a cardboard "PowerCup concentrator" which goes into the bottom of the popping bowl, and a lid. The Presto actually left less kernels unpopped than the NordicWare, but for some reason, the popcorn just didn't taste as good in the Presto (I used the same popcorn and about a tablespoon of oil in both). Also, there have been a couple of times where I left the popcorn in just a little too long (even though I was listening for the obligatory 2-3 seconds between pops), and the cardboard "PowerCup concentrator" became scorched with burn marks. To be fair, the popcorn itself was fine but seeing the darkened cardboard made me nervous. And, again to be fair, I've had some uneven results in the Nordicware, where the same amount of oil and popcorn and the same cooking time sometimes results in perfect popcorn and overdone popcorn other times. The Presto does seem to be more consistent in that regard. The instructions say that each cardboard "PowerCup concentrator" is good for up to 12 uses if you pop with oil and up to 24 if you pop the popcorn straight (without oil), and they give you a pack of 8 concentrators to begin with. I haven't been able to verify if those numbers are accurate as I am still on my first concentrator, but my preference would be to NOT have to deal with them at all. So when my supply of concentrators runs out, rather than go out and buy another pack, I will probably give up using the Presto and buy another NordicWare, since 5 packs of concentrators = the price of the Nordicware. "AWESOME" Wonderful!! Quick way to get popcorn...in my opinion, it beats the already prepared microwave popcorn hands down. Very happy I purchased it... "best popper" This popper pops almost all the kernels, unlike some of the other poppers that leave a lot left over. "Like this alot" I have used this now for about 10-15 times. The popcorn pops really quickly and comes out great. The only bad part about the product is having to purchase the liners . They need to come up with a permanent one that you can take out and clean to reuse. Judy M "Can't believe there are good reviews" After reading the good reviews we purchased this popper. WOW!! WAS THIS A DISAPPOINTMENT. The papers last maybe 4 times (if we're lucky) Forget using oil, spray etc of any sort. The papers are good for one time only. We have used several different brands of popcorn including the recommended one. And nothing makes a difference. We bought the unit at Wal-Mart and when we go back to buy more papers we find out they don't handle the paper for the popper. So if we want to continue to use it we have to order and pay a shipping cost. It's not worth the money or the bother. As far as the popcorn it pops fast and sometime it taste OK and sometime not. You would think they would come up with something better then paper liners or at least someone would come up with a better microwave popper. I can't believe that we are the only one that has had this problem. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNIT.

What our customer's say! "I Can't Believe Anyone Gave a Positive Rating to This Thing!?", I bought mine at WalMart, and have tried it with and without oil. Very few kernels actually pop under any circumstances. I can only leave it in my medium size microwave for about 35 seconds. Any longer and it will begin to burn, and I mean a black, foul smelling sort of burn! The original product that Orville Redenbacher lent his name to must have been a better quality product. It has obviously been cheapened in some way, because there is no way Orville Redenbacher would stand for having his name on this thing. "Disappointed about buying replacement concentrators", I loved this popcorn popper, UNTIL I ran out of the concentrators that were provided with the popper. After looking at numerous stores to find the replacement concentrators, I realized that I was going to have to buy them online. Then, I realized that if I buy more concentrators, I am going to be paying almost what I payed to purchase the popcorn popper, just in replacement pieces and shipping and handling! I will be looking for another popcorn popper. "Ecellent popcorn. ", I got tired of microwave popcorn bags more and more of unpopped kennels. This goes into diswasher. I really wish it didn't have the pice that needs to replace but I don't use oil so I have only had to do that when I burned one batch. "Lesser quality than my original Presto PowerPop", Bought this product many many years ago and it made perfect popcorn every time. The concentrator cups would last around 15 times each. In September 2008 I purchased two Presto Power Poppers as replacement for myself and my mother after our original Presto poppers developed cracks. We each use this popper about 5 times a week. Both of these new poppers got holes and scorched the concentrator cup and melted the plastic lid the first time we used it. This plastic bowl and lid is MUCH thinner than our original. It makes me very sad they have cheapened this product to the point it is no longer usable. WOULD NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER AND WILL PROBABLY RETURN THESE! "Only tried it once so far", I have only tried this once so far but really liked these ease of use and clean up. Popcorn was a little dry but nothing a little butter wont cure. I am looking forward to trying the recipes included. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "much better than microwave popcorn bags", great popper - love that you can use it with oil or not. just like Orville says "most every kernel pops". Now I need to try with some flavored oils. YUM "Whoa - Microwave popcorn can be this fantastic?", I got tired of making popcorn in my Stir Crazy popcorn maker simply because of the smell that permeated the house every time I made a snack. (OK, that would be nightly.) So I gave this PowerPop a try and WOW! Not only is there less smell making it in the microwave, but it rocks out much better popcorn than the StirCrazy - which surprises me saying that because I've been using the StirCrazy for some, what - 20 years (ack!) and swore nothing could ever surpass it. Wrong - The PowerPop makes it better and with much less mess. "Amazing Popper!", I was REALLY skeptical of this Presto Popper, but my Boss insisted that it worked great. I had been using an old-fashioned "stirring paddle" pot with hand crank that was messy to clean but gave great results. With this Presto, you pop in a removable disk at the bottom (my original disk is still working after nearly two months), pour 2 tablespoons of peanut oil on top of the disk, and then add about 1/3 cup of popping corn. The result is amazing -- it pops nearly every kernel and cleans up easily. I have stopped using my old popper. HINT: To really get that theater popcorn taste, order some "Flavacol" by Gold Medal and use instead of salt! "Fun to use with all different kinds of popcorn!", I love trying different kinds of popcorn with little fat. This popper works great! "Easy to use microwave popper.", This review actually expresses the views of my good friends who use it. I gave this popper to them, since theirs is soooo old. It makes great popcorn. Unfortunately, it uses paper disks you'll have to replace, but the discs last a very long time. A great microwave popper! ![]() |
