Others say...
"bodum assam 6 cup fantastic item" I love my tea press You have to be careful for REAL small leaves but I love it I would highly recommend it to any of my friends and it makes great tea easy to use. "Perfect Teapot" This is an amazing tea pot. It is beyond anything I could have dreamed of. Yes, the pieces are plastic, but what's wrong with plastic? The pot is glass, the handle is very secure, all the other bits are very sturdy to my handling. To the reviewer who gave this a negative review because the handle melted.. it's not supposed to be a kettle for stove top use, are you mad? I had been using a ceramic teapot for almost two years and got tired of the endless dripping, the stains where the ceramic was not glazed, and the impossible-to-clean-without-a-pipe-cleaner, spout. Then I found this, and it amazes me that it went undetected for so long. First of all, it meets my priority requirement: it does not drip. It is also very easy to clean for those of us who must hand wash. Even though it is glass, the pot does not seem to get colder any faster than the ceramic one did. I really like that if you're like me and occasionally make a pot of tea but forget about it, you can come back to it and pop the whole pot in the microwave (after you remove the metal plunger bit) instead of heating each individual cup. Regarding the plunger, I only use bagged tea so I have no issues with tiny tea particles escaping. The product directions say to be careful about the bags getting caught between the plunger and the wall of the mechanism, but I have never had this happen. The plunger really does do what it is supposed to, in keeping separate the water with the tea from the rest of the pot. There is no need to fish out the tea once you lower the plunger. I've left the tea bags in there for several hours, come back to my tea, heated it up and it wasn't at all over steeped. I love this tea pot! "Is the platic filter safe to use with boiling water?" This tea press works fine to me. However, whenever I pour boiling water into plastic filter, it comes to mind if it is safe to use for drinking. Hot water may leach out some harmful materials from polycarbonate filter to tea. It reinforces me after I found out that Bodum introduces recently stainless filter in other tea press model, which is slightly more expensive. They did not address this question in their package or website. "Handle Burned" I loved the tea press. The simple design and the fact that it poured very nicely. You can not put the pot on a gas stove directly because the handle starts to melt. I realized that the handle was made of plastic, but it stated that it was resistant to heat up to 500 degrees. I recommend buying the tea warmer stand or pouring hot water in the pot and letting the tea sit in it. I think this press was not suitable for me because I prefer to add other spices and boil the water for some time. I later purchased a tea pot with a diffuser that had a glass handle and it works very well and was a bit cheaper. "nice but not perfect tea pot" The Bodum Assam 6-cup tea pot works well when used with the tea press, particularly if you place the loose-leaf tea inside a paper tea filter so the smallest particles do not migrate into the tea during the brewing period. But the tea pot cannot be used for storing the tea because the tea pot's top only works when attached to the tea press. Once the tea is brewed, you must either transfer the tea to a different pot with a top or you must leave the tea in this tea pot without a top. I would be happier with this product if it came with a top that allowed it to be used after the brewing is completed.

What our customer's say! "Thin glass", It worked well. But the third day I had it, I broke it. The glass is thin, you need to be careful with this one. I wish they had one like this made out of something thicker. "Bought this for my mother for Mother's Day", My mother loves this product she owned a smaller pot that she bought in a local store that cost twice as much and she is much happier with this product. "I got rid of mine", I can not possibly understand why they would make the strainer basket out of plastic. Why would I want to subject plastic to boiled water? There is a great deal of concern with plastics reaction to heat today. Is this plastic safe? I don't know. I emailed the company asking exactly what kind of plastic is used. They responded the plastic used is safe for human use. ??? That's their opinion without knowing exactly what plastic is used who knows if it is safe. Why not use stainless steel strainers in all their units? "great tea press if you love making tea!", I'm buying my second one. The first was a casualty of the 14 year old cleaning the kitchen when she dropped another glass on it and destroyed the carafe. I really enjoy(ed) making tea with this press. I didn't even know such a thing existed until my wife and I saw one at a Chinese dim sum restaurant and enjoyed some jasmine tea from it. I found it easy to use. I don't understand many of the complaints in these reviews. I would fill it with water then transfer that water to a tea kettle to heat it. As it was heating I would measure out the loose tea. I generally would use 5 tablespoons of loose tea per pot (usually green tea - Twinings Gunpowder variety or Jasmine). When the water was hot I would pour it over the loose tea through the strainer. Then I would place the lid on top. I never ever had it sink prematurely. After 3 mins (or whatever the recommended steeping time was) I would press the tea to the bottom of the strainer. Then serve! I drank it hot or poured it over ice during the summer. Always tasted great! The whole thing was easy to clean. Simply rinse out the carafe when empty or put it through the dishwasher if it was too dirty, though I usually hand cleaned it. But, somehow the grease and spatters of everyday kitchen cooking would get to the outside so I would put it in the dishwasher. The basket would sometimes get tea leaves stuck in it, but I could reach in with my fingers and scrape them out easily enough. My only gripe was that one of the little flanges on the basket that keep it in place broke off when I banged it against the side of the sink to knock out tea leaves. Bummer. So, I didn't do that any more. Again, I don't understand the problems people have had with this tea press. Having it opened up a world of tea drinking for me because I was able to start using loose tea with ease. Tea bags just don't have the best quality leaves in them and that affects the taste. If you want an alternative to drinking sodas and/or coffee, etc, tea is the way to go and loose tea will make you want more and more. "Good on paper", I thought it was a great product before buying it. But it is only good on paper. The problem is that the tea leaves are pushed to the bottom of the infuser. As you can see in the picture, there are no holes in the bottom part of the infuser. This makes it a little troublesome to make a good cup of tea. Just in case you are also looking for good teas, here is a wonderful green tea: Rishi Tea Organic Jasmine Pearl Loose Tea, 3-Ounce Tin (Pack of 2) ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Bad design, or my particular one is defective?", I was pretty shocked by so many high ratings for the large tea pot. Maybe mine is defective? It's such a simple mechanism; I did not notice any missing or broken pieces so it isn't defective but is poorly designed. The plunger in the lid doesn't stay 'up.' Put tea in the infuser, pour in water, put the lid on, and the plunger immediately sinks due to its weight and presses the tea to the bottom of the infuser where there are no holes so the water stays just water, never becoming tea. The problem is a bad design where there is nothing to stop the plunger from sinking. Another bad aspect of the design is you cannot use the lid without the infuser, the lid rests on the infuser and would fall into the pot if the infuser weren't there. This means this tea pot cannot be used as a general-purpose pot with a lid. I would never buy this pot had I known of these problems. Two good things about this pot are it's glass and plastic so if you remove the lid (with its metal components), the pot can be microwaved. The other good thing is it came with a cork trivet. "Bodum Assam Tea Press", I am very happy with my Bodum Tea Press. I wanted a glass tea pot that would make more than the usual two or four cups. This is the ony one that I found. When I lived in Denmark I became familiar with Bodum and it is now my favorite brand. The only feature that I don't like and I hope they will improve it, is that I store my pot in the fridge so I have tea for a few days, and there is no top to it. The tea press top doesn't fit unless you keep the press part in it at all times and I don't want to store it in the fridge with the press inside of my brewed tea. "Tea lover's delight", It's taken a while for Bodum to perfect this teapot. I first bought one several years ago and found it wonderful to use, but with one major flaw: it was very easy to implode the pot when pulling out the plunger for cleaning. I went through two teapots in this way, but kept buying replacements because it's so good in every other way. Bodum has now altered the design slightly, and the new pot avoids the implosion problem. So, what's so good about it? * It pours beautifully. * Because it's a press, you can stop the tea from brewing past a chosen strength. * The press acts as a strainer, too, so your tea is leaf-free. If you use very fine leafed tea, you'll need to fill it slowly as the basket strains the tea as you pour; with big-leafed teas (such as Twinings Earl Grey) the process is appreciably faster. "Afternoon Tea All Day Long", I am a tea drinker. For breakfast tea, I will make a pot of Earl Grey. I like the flavor of Earl Grey made in the tea press. I will drink from that pot until about 10:00 AM, That's when I boil another kettle of water, and make a pot of white tea in the Bodum Tea Press. This pot of tea is brewed with a measure of cinnammon and a couple of teaspoons of white tea. I drink this tea throughout the afternoon. When it gets too cool, I microwave my cup of tea for about a minute. Works good. I am going to get the four cup Bodum Tea Press for my daughter because she likes to enjoy a cup of tea in the mornings on the way to work. The tea press will be easy for her to use and clean. "Tea Press", I was looking for a larger tea press so I could make several cups of fresh pressed hot tea and iced tea. This tea press was excatly what I was looking for! ![]() |
