Others say...

"Worst Coffeemaker ever!"
DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!! I have never written a review on any product... but I feel so strongly about this that I felt the need to warn others. This is the worst coffeemaker I have ever owned. I have gone through two of these machines in the past year. The first one I owned simply stopped working after about 3 months. I called Black and Decker and they agreed to replace it... if I paid for shipping and handling. They assured me this was not typical. However, now on coffeemaker number two, I came downstairs to grab coffee before leaving for work and this one has simply stopped working as well. Will not brew coffee by turning it on manually or setting the timer. Save yourself the headaches and do not buy this machine!

"Carafe leak!"
Black & Decker used to be a USA company that made good power tools. Sometime in the '80s (I think) they where bought by Fox Int./? and they started marketing home appliances with the Black & Decker name and made in China.
Seems to make good coffee and faster than other coffeemakers that I have owned. The hot plate under the carafe keeps the coffee good and hot.
In an effort to make the price as low as possible they figured a way to make the Carafe cheaper. Instead of forming the pouring lip on the Carafe out of glass (as all other Carafes that I have ever seen) they made the Carafe out of 2 pieces. One part is the glass bowl and the other is the black plastic handle and the top lip of the Carafe with the pouring lip. Somehow they try to seal the two parts together to make a the Carafe assembly. Well here is where things go wrong. Glass and plastic have a different expansion rate and so they have a hard time getting the two to seal, and that is why, I think, the Carafe leaks.
I called B & D /Fox /? and told them that the Carafe leaked and was told that the Carafe was on "back order" and I would get the replacement in about 4 weeks, and I did. This tells me that many other people are having the same (leaking) problem. They wouldn't confirm that. So far no leaks with the replacement Carafe.
My only other comment about the Coffeemaker is the red LED display for the clock is very very bright. It's so bright that you can use it for a night light!!
Would I buy it again, yes.

"Excellent drip coffee maker"
This coffee maker has some very nice features:
1. It makes very good coffee
2. Unlike most, the caraffe does not drip when you pour the coffee.
3. The fill-opening is convenient and large enough that you don't spill water on the counter when you fill the pot.

In my opinion, the best you can buy.

"Look out below"
Poured water into the container and it immediately ran out the bottom of the coffee maker all over the floor.......Returned

"Clock is Cuckoo - Coffee ok"
The clock on this coffee maker is for the birds. Ability to keep time is random. Easy to set but it doesn't work. It brews coffee but good luck on having that done automatically. I purchased on recommendation of Consumer Reprorts and I am very disappointed.

What our customer's say!

"Black & Decker DCM2500 - Good Buy!", My wife and I were in the market for a programmable coffee maker, and, after reviewing them on Consumer Reports, we went with their recommended Black & Decker DCM2500B (black) machine. Now, we read the mixed user comments on this machine on Amazon.com as well as other locations, but decided to go ahead with the purchase. We're NOT sorry. This was a good buy and value for a coffee maker that's, for us, as advertisd. No problems with the clock, good coffee, and solid workmanship. Some people mentioned that it's "noisy" while brewing. Certainly it does make some noises, but it's mostly a gently "gurgling" that sounds normal during brewing. Admittedly, we've only had the coffee maker a relatively short amount of time, but we're giving it a thumbs up!

"Digital Display Didn't Work after 2 days..", The coffee part of the coffee maker is nice- no leaks or drips.
The digital display lost "bars" after only 2 days of use..
You can't tell what time it is, due to this issue. Disappointing, but, I guess we'll deal with it for now..

"Cost effective carafe replacement", We really like this coffee maker, but broke the carafe in the one we had. After some research, we found that ordering a new unit from Amazon was less expensive than a replacement carafe.

"coffee pot", Works well no real compaints, though the coffee could be a bit warmer on the burner

"Unimpressed. Should have gotten another Krups.", I owned a Krups coffee maker for 7 years, the kind with the round, 10 cup aroma carafe. You can't find that coffee maker anymore, but you can still find the carafe. The water reservoir was getting pretty funky, and the clock finally burned out so I could not program it anymore. It made a damn good cup of coffee, though. I was going to buy another Krups, but after reading up on this one, and because it is a Consumer Reports best buy, I decided to get it.

I'm not that impressed, and regret not getting another Krups.

The carafe is sturdy, has a nice pour, but otherwise the Krups design is better. The Krups carafe is round, and just as sturdy with a good pour. When I pour the first cup of this new one tons of condensation pour off the lid first watering down that first cup of coffee. That never happened with the Krups. I never had condensation on the lid because the round design prevented that.

The filter is your basic, round filter. Coming off of a cone filter, I have to say I like the cone filter much better. It makes stronger coffee with fewer grounds. I have to use much more grounds to get close to the same flavor I was getting from the Krups #4 cone. I'm going through ground coffee much faster, now.

Programming works like it should. No surprise or disappointment, here, though the clock is BRIGHT.

Here is the BIG disappointment. The Krups could be programmed to keep the coffee warm for up to 5 hours, then the warmer plate would shut off. 5 hours is excessive, but it was nice because I work from home and drink coffee the entire morning. It's also nice because my wife or I could get up at 5 and have 2 mugs of coffee before work, and then the other could get up at 7:30 or 8 and have fresh tasting, hot coffee from the same pot. NOT ANYMORE! The warmer plate is limited to 2 hours, and 2 hours only. You can not set it to stay on longer or shorter. If you turn the maker back on after it shuts off, it really burns the coffee. Solution? Get a separate carafe or make a new pot. What a waste. So, even though I saved $20 compared to buying another Krups, now I'll probably spend another $20 for a carafe.

If keeping the coffee hot for more than 2 hours is a big deal, spend a little more money and get the coffee maker with the thermal carafe.

Overall, the Krups was a much better value, makes much better coffee, and has better features. It lasted 7 years, made great coffee, and kept the coffee tasting fresh and hot for up to 5 hours. Also, after 2 years I just stopped buying replacement water filters and went "water filterless". It still worked great.

I will probably not have this coffee maker for that long, but I am so disappointed I can't get the round, aroma Krups anymore.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great for pouring and could double as morning alarm clock.", I have been using this appliance for just under 2 months. I bought it based on the reviews I read about how you can pour a cup of coffee without spilling. That is accurate. It does a much better job of pouring than my previous Mr Coffee machine.
However, the lid on the pot is already breaking at the hinge; typical cheap plastic molded "C" that clicks in over a plastic bar, the ends of the "C" have bent and will soon be useless.
Also, this is the loudest coffee maker I have ever owned! It makes a lot of noise from the moment it starts brewing, which continues through out the time it sits on the warming plate. It sounds like it keeps trying to brew, making loud clicking noises and sucking dry air. For me, the constant noise is quite annoying.

If you could combine the decanter from this unit with everything else from my old Mr Coffee, you'd have the perfect coffee maker.

"Clock impossible to program.", The machine looks and works fine. But it's annoying that the clock is impossible to program. I thought it was on a 24-hour basis, but it switches back to 12:00 after 14:00. Unless you are using the timer for morning coffee, etc., I would buy the similar model which is a few dollars cheaper and doesn't feature a timer.

"Timer problem", The clock did not work - random numbers, such as 13 and 14 appeared. This meant one could not set it to begin automatically and the automatic timer did not work. This was bought online to save time which meant we did not have time to deal with repairs and did not realize there was a problem until the coffee pot was unpacked and used.

"SmartBrew coffeemaker", The SmartBrew coffeemaker recently purchased is our second one. The first one lasted 8 years. The programming is simple and convenient. Care must always be taken to seat the caraffe on the heating surface so as to disable the "sneak a cup" feature during brewing.
Overall...a very good product for the cost.

"not happy!", If the pot isn't put EXACTLY into the center of the place, ther is coffee everywhere. The plate actually has a thin rim that the carafe sit into. Forget about it if you are in a hurryQ
