Others say...
"Not a good buy" I bought this iron about three weeks ago and was VERY disappointed with it. It didn't heat properly and the sole plate was awful, it wasn't smooth but was brunished which made it want to grab and hold the fabric. It's heavier that other irons which should have made wrinkle removal easier, didn't happen. I took it back and exchanged it for anothe Black and Decker iron which I will review on another page. J. Pelfrey "Not For Uniforms" This Iron is a Poorly Operating Sample (P.O.S.)! It has two controls; Temperature & Yes/No for Steam. If I was going to put only two controls on an item, I would make sure both worked. Black & Decker thought that was too much effort. Does it get hot? More or less. Does it make steam? No. Nein. Nicht. Bu how. Nadda. Zero. It does make an Excellent door stop. "Black & Decker f63D The Classic Metal Iron" I have a defected iron OR this is the way it is suppose to be. I wish I had never ordered on line. I should have gone to true hardware and then I could have taken it back. The back of the iron hangs up on the clothes you are trying to iron. I had this exact iron about 10 years ago and remember it being great. When I found it on line I was excited. I say do not buy this iron. The "back of the iron" will drag on your clothes as you are ironing no matter what you do. It needs to be cut down. If I had kept my box and ticket I would send it back immediately..As is, I now have an iron that is of no use to me. The good thing about the Classic Metal Iron is the heat. It gets hot enough to iron your clothes - if it was not for the "back hang" it would be great.Black & Decker F63D The Classic Metal Iron "F63D Black & Decker Classic Iron" Our household has been using this iron for years. It is the best iron on the market for this price.I hope they never stop making this excellent iron "Great for the basics" I have had several of these irons. I like them because they are heavy and don't automatically turn off. This iron is really nice for basic ironing; however, I have decided they don't work real well when quilting. Sometimes, when pressing small pieces, the fabric gets caught in a steam hole and gets scrunched up, then you have to iron like mad to get it flat again--which may cause distorting of the fabric. All in all, I would get this iron--it used to be made by GE ages ago--it is a workhorse.

What our customer's say! "Do not buy - will burn you AND your fabric", This is an absolutely horrible iron. There is no way to determine how much water is in it. If it is filled too full, the water simmers and bubbles back out the water hole to drip nearly-boiling water on your hand. It also frequently drips water onto the fabric. On top of that, the amount of heat greatly varies during an ironing session. I'll use it on 7 for a while on cotton and linen and then suddenly, it will start burning my ironing board cover. I have nothing good to say about this iron. "No stars for this vendor", It has been two months and I do not have a refund. Ace Hardware sent the wrong product, I returned it immediately, using their labels that were e-mailed to me, and they did not credit my account. "Do not purchase this item", I purchased this iron due to its low price and the fact that it was a Black and Decker. I was dissatisfied with it after only one use -- it did not get hot enough, it did not glide smoothly over the clothes, and the 'resting plate' got extremely hot, which concerned me from a safety perspective. The iron does look attractive, but that hardly matters. Even though this particular model is not good, the 'Digital Advantage' model has received very good ratings and I plan to go this afternoon to purchase it. This model not withstanding, Black and Decker still makes the best irons. "I want my old iron back", I bought this iron and gave my old one away. I thought it would work like an old fashioned heavy iron. It does not get hot enough for most of my needs. The steam feature is more of a stream, or droplet feature than steam. I was very disappointed. I do like that it has a safety and turns off after a certain amount of time. "underperforms", This "classic" iron is mostly aesthetics. The iron plate itself is not stainless steel - not even ceramic. Rather, it aluminum, which does not glide well. The steamer is weak compared to most other steam irons on the market, and it lacks a steam burst feature. Also it does not get very hot; it needs to be turned up all the way on the hottest setting to perform as required. I would recommend a cheap GE/Rowenta over this. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "GREAT Iron!", I actually got this identical iron back when I was in high school in the early 90's. I've been using it practically every day since and it's been over 15 years! If you like a heavy steam iron that gets nice and hot without all the silly plastic gizmos of other irons, then this is the one for you. I need a new one because after 15 years, leaving water in it between uses and storing it in a moist, steamy bathroom has taken its toll and it's started to leak. Otherwise it's never failed me. I'm just really happy it's still available and am definitley getting another one. "A Great iron.", I got this iron at Acme. I was a little weary because my dad had bad experences(they broke)with black and decker tools. But after reading most reviews I thought it was a half-way deicebt buy. And I was right!!! Ths little thing is heavy, and hot enough to iron out wrinkles w/o killing your arm if your not a weakling. The only downfall is that the whole thing gets hot. Maybe because I left the steam button on. Anyway it's A Great iron. So buy if you want witch I recomend. "Good Iron But Avoid if You Have Hard Water", I love this iron because it is heavy and it gets really, really hot. It takes out every wrinkle. The handle is comfortable to hold. After using it for a couple of years, the plate started pitting and I believe it is because I have hard water. The little holes have clogged up. It then started to "snag" delicate fabrics and I ruined some brand new curtains I was ironing. I tried running some vinegar through it, but I think the damage has been done...it's too late. If I had used distilled water from the beginning, that probably wouldn't have happened. If you have hard water, use distilled and you should be all set. My only complaint is the plate is aluminum instead of non-stick surface. If they put Teflon on this baby, it would be great. "The Best Iron Ever", My mom used this iron when I was a kid. It is heavy, but that's the beauty of it... less effort on your part to get the wrinkles out! [..] "Easy to use classic", The iron is performing well in its role, and is very easy to use from the control standpoint. Some of my staff mention that it is a bit heavier than the modern design counterparts. They also mention that they like the clear plastic reservoirs of the more modern units as they can see the water level. However the iron appears to be well constructed and very sturdy. Time will tell if it holds up to leaking reservoirs, stained sole plates and worn out heating units of many of the other brands that we have used over the past years. From a price perspective it was a very good deal. ![]() |
