Others say...

"this is the thing that was passed around in the movie "Old School""
In the movie, Frank (will Farrell) claimed that "it has three speeds" but execpt that nobody liked it. it was however a reoccuring theme in the movie and very funny.
I do not own this machine, but would like to buy it as a gift for someone.

"I LOVE my bread maker!!!!"
i have made one or two loaves a week since i received my machine and love it!! i have tried several of the recipes that came with it and one i had clipped from the paper. all turned out well but my favorites are the french bread and the raisin bread. the only thing that bothers me is that the little paddle gets embedded in the bread.

"Terrible!!"
I only used the dough cycle, as I like to bake my own loaves in the oven. The Oster never gave me a good doughball. One problem I noticed was that the final product was drying on the outside. I just never produced a good loaf of bread with this thing (granted, there are dozens of variables to control, but I've been making bread for 15 years).

"Worst breadmaker I've ever had!"
My last bread machine was an Oster that cost half what this one did and worked twice as well--even after 8 years and a broken lid! The current model is worthless, except for making pizza dough. So far, I've tried ten bread recipes. Every one produced a too-hard crust, and flour caked at the bottom if I didn't use a spatula to help the early mixing. All but one produced a sunken top--and the one that didn't sink overflowed the pan.

"Beware of falling!"
The vibrations when it stirs heavier dough can cause it to "walk" off your counter and fall onto the floor! We always (after the first fall) brace it on our counter top with heavier appliances (wedged against the wall between the big crockpot and the stove). Overall, an excellent bread machine with a wide variety of settings.

What our customer's say!

"Bread Maker", Great bread machine. Does not take up a lot of room on the counter. We use it at least 3 times a week. Highly recommend.

"Works great", This machine does all I expected. Bread comes out perfect every time. Recommend it.....

"Love it...", I have an older Sunbeam but it makes a vertical loaf. I still have it but I only use it on the dough setting now. I use this Oster for dough as well but also bake in it. Like the Sunbeam, even on the light setting it is still too dark - I usually take the bread out 10 minutes early. Hence the 4 star rating. It is still a very nice machine and I like the size and shape of the loaf.

"Terrific Buy.", This machine arrived in "brand new" condition and worked great. Instructions, recipes, etc. were all included. A great Value!

"I love it!", What can I say? It works wonderfully! I love the smell of fresh baked bread when I get home from work. The price was right too!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"What a dud!", After 15 (yes, 15) years, my old bread machine (an America's Best brand - no longer made) finially gave up the ghost. I looked at a few new models and after reading the reviews and tips, went with this Oster 5838. What a mistake. I returned it after about 3 weeks. Out of 12 different loaves, only 2 turned out correctly. Most loaves only rose up one side of the pan and came out looking like a blob. 5 of the loaves burnt on the bottom, but were not baked in the middle. The 2 times that I tried the "express bake" option, I ended up with a brick of bread that only rose about 1 1/2 inches. Other reviews informed me that the recipies in the included book required too much yeast, which is true. The recipie book also stated that it was important to have all ingredients at room temp., but this made no difference in the way the machine performed. This machine is very inconsistant and the pan is so cheap, I was afraid I would break it every time I removed it. I am now testing out the Sunbeam. Cross your fingers!

"just fine", we bought the 5836 model 2 and a half years ago and have enjoyed excellent whole wheat breads since at the 3hr setting and we always use a plastic spatula in the mixing you may find our measurements helpful cheers!( 5 cups white flour, 2 cups whole wheat flour,1 cup wheat germ,1 tsp yeast,1 tsp salt, 1 tbs brown sugar, 2 ounces butter diced , 2 cups water warmed for 1 min )here's 2 gr8 bread;-)

"Love this machine", I have been using my Oster ExpressBake for years and love it. It's quiet and powerful enough to handle whole wheat dough. I did have to order a new pan and paddle because I used the original ones to the point that the nonstick was coming off, but had no unpleasant issues with Oster's customer service. I would highly recommend this machine.

"Pleased my daughter-in-law", I bought this for a Christmas present for my new daughter-in-law. I made her very happy because the bread machine is so easy to operate and produces such great results.

"OSTER BREADMAKER", Oster 5838 ExpressBake Breadmaker, White
The Oster Breadmaker worked beyond our wildest expectations! So far, we've made loaves of white & wheat bread, a loaf of white French bread and loaves of gluten-free white and wheat bread - all delicious. The 2lb. standard loaves are huge, crusty outside, moist and delicious inside - they lasted only one day (read fattening) in our home and there are only two of us. A bonus is that it is so easy and so much fun to watch. We've only used the 3 hr. recipes, but look forward to the 58 and 120 min. ones and to the 13 hr. pre-set version. We can't imagine how cool it will be to start it at 5 PM and wake up to fresh bread smells at 6 AM!! We also want to try the sour dough recipe. Buy it and you will not be disappointed. We liked it so much, we bought two more for our kids. [...]
