"Food Saver Jar Sealer"
I really like this product. It is easy to use and I love the fact that it works on canning jars and I don't have to buy bags for it. I have just started using it and so far have only used it on dry foods. It says you can use it for sauces and jams, etc. which is nice. I don't think I would open a can of green beans (home canned) and then reseal and put back on the shelf, but for things you eat often it is nice to be able to seal the jar and they will stay fresher. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to keep foods fresher in jars. It's also nice that you can use the lids over and over again, the instructions tell you how to open the jar lids so you don't bend them.

"THE HOSE DOESN'T COME WITH THIS PRODUCT"
Beware - no hose!

I bought this,FoodSaver T03-0023-01 Wide Mouth Jar Sealer not for the jar sealer itself but to buy the pictured hose (We need the hose, but no found alone). The hose doesn't come with it, so don't expect it (and Amazon - pls say "hose not included").

"Useful multi-purpose sealer"
This makes a FoodSaver more worthwhile, plus it can be used with inexpensive handheld vacuum sealers available in grocery stores-- great for camping or picnics or if you don't have a FoodSaver at all. I had been sealing jars by placing them in the large FoodSaver canister, using it as a vacuum chamber, but this cap is faster. People seem to have trouble with the standard mouth sealer cap, but this wide mouth sealer works for me every time.

"Amazing money saver"
I have the V2440 food saver. An online review said the jar sealer is a must. Since I have dozens of canning jars, I got the jar sealer. It is a must! Jars can be used over and over. Most canning jars (if label says so) can be frozen. Sauces such as spaghetti sauce can be partially thawed. Use what you need and refreeze in the same jar so you don't use so many bags. Great also for bell peppers, green onions, cheese, etc. Instead of recutting bags just seal leftovers right in same jar.

"Beware - no hose!"
I bought this, not for the jar sealer itself but to replace the pictured hose (the tip fitting which accidentally fell into a still warm toaster and melted). The hose doesn't come with it, so don't expect it (and Amazon - pls say "hose not included"). Otherwise, if unmelted, the whole system works great.

What our customer's say!

"A great add-on for your FoodSaver!", It's no secret that the bags for the FoodSaver are expensive. Enter the Wide Mouth Jar Sealer. This is great for items that you want to keep vacuum sealed in between uses. Think "dry goods" such as beans, macaroni, corn starch, brown sugar, etc. For those that are not familiar with exactly what this does I will give a brief expanation. With this jar sealer you can take a standard canning jar, put the desired product inside, slap on a good canning jar lid, and vacuum seal it using the 'canister' button and the vacuum hose that came with your FoodSaver. You then remove the jar sealer to use again and again. As long as you are careful when removing the canning jar lid it can be used over and over again. The companion product to this is the Regular Mouth Jar Sealer which is the same but for regular mouth jars.

"Works great when you use the right "trick!"", HERE'S THE TRICK I FOUND: (1) make sure the tubes are well-attached to the white jar sealer part and the machine (2) PUSH DOWN ON THE WHITE JAR SEALER while the machine vacuums. It works great!

I figured this out when I noticed that there is a rubber ring inside the jar sealer top and if it's not pressing down enough on the jar, the vacuum isn't as effective.

I read the previous reviews with interest - what contrasts of opinions! I just tried this product and found it to work perfectly. I tried both the wide and regular mouth sealers. They both work perfectly well. I used new lids. I did not heat them before using.

I didn't have to use two lids, either, when I pressed down on the jar sealer top.

As far as the reviewer who tested the amount of air in the jar - I just know that it is impossible to achieve such a tight seal on the jar lids without a proper vacuum. Removing the lids is as difficult after this vacuum sealing as it is with traditional canning - there is definitely a great amount of air gone from the jar to produce such a tight seal. So, in my opinion, it does a great job.

Make sure the tubes are connected properly and firmly, press down on the sealer while it's vacuuming and you should get great results.

I'm thrilled with this product.

P.S. The wide mouth jar sealer did come with a plastic attachment tube, but the regular mouth jar sealer did not.
Also, I don't recommend storing any powdery substance (i.e. flour) as the vacuum process sucks some of the flour up and under the lid, making the seal inefficient. It's best for heavier substances like rice, beans, cookies, nuts, candy, etc.

"Great product - money saver!", FoodSaver may be kind of shooting themselves in the foot with this product. We found their plastic canisters to be rather expensive, and there were too many reviews saying people had experienced cracks in them. I'm sure a plastic canister would be good in some circumstances, but when we found out there are wide-mouth 2 quart canning jars (you generally only see 1 quart and 1 pint in the stores), we bought the last 3 cases of them we could find locally (6 jars in each case) and ordered this Jar Sealer. What a great product!

Just so there's no misunderstanding, this product is removed after the jar is sealed, and the lid stays put - just screw on the jar ring and put away whatever is in the jar. At first it was a little unclear whether we had to get one of these attachments for each jar, but that's not the case.

Now we can use relatively inexpensive (and durable) ½ gallon canning jars (as well as the smaller sizes) for various food items, take out what we need for use, and immediately vacuum-seal the jar again with the remaining contents. A case of six 2 quart jars was just over $8.00, so for about $25 (plus the one-time cost of the jar sealer attachment of course) we have 9 gallons of storage capacity to use over and over, without concern for cracking like the FoodSaver plastic canisters apparently do too often. And replacing the sealing lids when they finally need replacing is a minimal expense. This also sure beats the cost of the plastic sealing bags that generally can only be used one or two times, when we can use these jars over and over instead of the bags. There is a place for the plastic bags, but we're finding so far that a whole lot that we initially started putting in the bags can just as easily (if not easier) go in the jars. Additionally, the jars keep powdered or liquid products from going into the vacuum sealer much more easily than the bags laying flat at the mouth of the sealer.

All around, these easy to use and very inexpensive for ongoing use, with almost nothing to replace or crack, and easy to store.

One tip: read the instructions carefully. DO NOT open the FoodSaver lid first when it's finished, or it will repressurize the jar. Follow the instructions and remove one end of the plastic tube first - there will be just a little puff of air as air re-enters the system, but it doesn't go into the jar and destroy the vacuum in the jar. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

"A little fiddly but gets the job done", I've used this a couple of times now. It seems to work fine, but it doesn't like just any lid. I re-use old lids for storage (but not for canning) all the time. I could usually tell which one of my recycled lids wouldn't work. They were the ones with visible blemishes to the gasket or were somehow dented around the rim. It did take me a couple of tries with some of the good lids though. All in all, I like this device. Just be patient with it. Sure beats using disposable plastic bags all the time for storage.

"great idea", This is a very inexpensive way to be able to use your WIDE mouth mason jars to use with the foodsaver. Almost every household has ball mason jars and if not, they are quite inexpensive to buy at a hardware store or department stores. The 1 quart size wide mouth BALL mason jars are great to use when after a while you need to transfer food from the larger canisters to smaller containers and the mason jars will definitely do the trick. Just simply put the lid on and put this jar sealer down tight, connect your hose and push the canister button on the foodsaver and it will vacuum out all the air. The lids are reusable as long as you don't dent or bend them. You can also get extra lids. A package of 12 lids for about $2.50 at almost any store. I like the WIDE mouth jars for the simple reason that the opening is bigger. As many of you know that the foodsaver canisters are rather very pricey so this is a very good alternative way to go. You can get a case of 12 for about $9. This particular wide mouth jar sealer is good for BALL and KERR wide mouth mason jars. I store peanuts, chocolate chips, walnuts, confectionary sugar, raisins, just to name a few things that I store in the pantry. Then when the canister that once held a box of cereal starts to get down low, i use the mason jar to store cereal as well. Highly recommend to get the jar sealer.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"I'm still not sure what to think of this..", I purchased this to use along with a box of mason jars so I can save some foods in the fridge longer. I am able to get a nice, tight seal; however, I'm not sure it's preserving my food any longer than it would if I did not vacuum-seal. I've had lettuce and herbs go mushy and today just found mold on some of my cheese. I think I need to do a little experiment and put some lettuce in a regular plastic baggy and some in a sealed mason jar to see if there is a difference. I'm wondering if I should just stick to the FoodSaver bags since they seem to keep foods fresher longer. It's just that they get so expensive to use..

"The jar sealer is the BEST attachment to the FoodSaver!", The foodsaver mason jar sealer is wonderful! I like that it extends the life of foods AND it extends my grocery budget! The sealing bags are okay, but let's face it, they can get pricey if one uses their foodsaver daily (like I do). I especially like the fact that I can save my leftovers that don't do well in bags, such as leftover spaghetti and meatballs. Also, I put my cheeses in a jar rather than a bag. When using a foodsaver bag for shredded cheese, you will waste an inch or two of bag everytime you want to get out a small portion of cheese to make an omlette or top a salad. Instead, I put my shredded cheese in a jar! I can open it as many times as I want without wasting bags (aka wasting money).
I also love the fact I can prepare a big meal and seal portions directly in a 8 oz or 16 oz wide mouth jar. Look for the "Collection Elite" jars by Ball; I found them at Walmart and Wegmans. In the morning, I remove the lid and replace it with a plastic screw-on top (also made by Ball). It's ready to take to work and microwave directly in the glass jar, which is healthier than microwaving in plastic. For dinner, I can make several meals ahead for the week and keep them in the refridgerator rather than the freezer. That way I have meals ready to reheat in the proper portion size without having to thaw them. Love using my FoodSaver with mason jars!

For those who are having trouble sealing, here are a couple hints that I discovered through experience:

1) As recommended by FoodSaver, soak your lids in hot water to make their built-in "gasket" a little more pliable.

2) As a previous reviewer noted, the jar needs to have either a lower rim, or, in the case the 8 oz jar from Ball's "Collection Elite" designer line, it must have a very short "neck" (the space that is the transition between the round opening and the square body) so that the blue rubber gasket of the jar sealer can get a tight seal. If you are using an older Ball or Kerr without the rim, you may not be able to use the Jar Sealer. If your jar does have a rim, but it is a bit too small to facilitate a good seal, (as in the case of the 16 oz jar from Ball's "Collection Elite") fashion a smallish rubber band tightly around the lower rim, or encircle the lower rim with a couple turns of masking tape. This helps widen the lower rim just enough so that a tight seal can form between the blue band of the Jar Sealer and the jar. That should do the trick! Good Luck!

"Excellent addition to Foodsaver! GREEN alternative to bags!", These work just as described & I find I use them on a daily basis. I bought a set of the big jars & now, instead of using the plastic bags, I use jars - not only are they cheaper, I don't have to feel bad about using plastic & throwing it away! I find I can use lids over & over again if I am careful about how I open them. I store veggies, salad, nuts, wheat flour, cornmeal, yeast, etc, etc & on & on. The lid sealer is so convenient & easy to use, I have absolutely no complaints!

I definately recommend the wide mouth & the small mouth sealers; they are a great way to be GREEN - no more plastic bags & you can reuse the bottles & lids!!

"Works Great!", Worked better than expected. Hooked it up to a "Kerr" wide-mouth jar, plugged it in to my FoodSaver 420 port, and within minutes the jar was vacuum sealed! Flawless operation.

"vacuum jar sealer", works excellent. If you take care when opening jar, lid can be revacuum-sealed many times. My personal use is for grains, such as barley and millet, but think it would be a super way to store those fancy coffee blends.
