"Superior Auto Drip Coffee Maker" Pros: Style, design, workmanship, brew temp, no hot plate to burn coffee, stainless steel boiler lining, fast brew, stainless carafe keeps coffee hot for hours and ease of use. Oh, and the coffee is perfect. This machine delivers on all expectations. Cons: I'm thinking... I almost purchased the Technivorn, but the Capresso has more features (without having to buy a multi-hole dispersion head- Capresso saturates the grinds completely as is), a lower retail price, is smaller and pretty. I also took a long look at the Bunn with stainless carafe. Trouble is, there's no gold filter made for it, and I don't like paper filters. Also, far too many reports about poorly designed stainless steel carafe. Don't be misled about "coffee all over the counter stories" with the MT-500. Just read the brief, adequate instructions, and it will be really hard to mess-up. This isn't rocket science, just great drip coffee in 7 minutes. One caution: You will not be satisfied with most all other brands ever again because they make sour or bitter coffee from too low brew temp or insufficient power to keep the grinds from over steeping and getting bitter in the process. "The Best" I've purchased a number of coffee makers over the years - Bunn, Quisinart, Mr. Coffee, etc. - constantly searching for the best. I found it in this Capresso. Not only is it a beautiful addition to the kitchen - it brews the best cup of coffee - ever! Easy to use - easy to keep clean - the thermal carafe keeps the coffee piping hot and fresh for hours. I highly recommend this coffee maker - best on the market. "Great coffee - High Price" I am sitting here enjoying my 2nd cup of French Roast after getting the coffee maker yesterday. It tastes great and just like it does from my favorite coffee shop where I bought the coffee. I knew when I purchased the unit it was high priced and it is way over priced. Its not made in the USA but atleast its not made in China. I agree with other reviews that the caraffe is not the best. It pours coffee very slow. Unlike my last coffee maker it does brew a whole lot faster. It is twice as fast and that is good for the flavor of the coffee. The beans are not over brewed. Overall it is a great machine but could be half the price. Now I am waiting for my Baratza Maestro Plus Burr Coffee Grinder to come in the mail and I will be all set. "Great coffeemaker" This is a fine coffeemaker with not a whole lot of bells and whistles. Makes a decent cup of coffee. The carafe keeps coffee hot and fresh. It is a bit on the flimsy side. All in all a good if not a bit too expensive coffeemaker. "Well worth the $" Having tried a few other carafe type coffee makers, we've finally found one that meets our expecatations. Coffee is HOT for well over an hour, even if brewed into a cold carafe. Carafe pours well also.

What our customer's say! "Just keep it clean!!!", Don't listen to anyone who's griping about the alignment issues. The top of the carafe has a nipple which lines up with the bottom of the filter holder fairly well. It isn't hard to line up at all!!! On top of which there is a moat which goes around this nipple which also drains into the carafe in case your alignment isn't entirely perfect. The people who are having coffee overflow all over the kitchen are either not keeping the little green ball -- which prevents back flow -- clean and it gets stuck and sealed, or are putting too much water in to begin with. Bottom line is, use the carafe to measure your water and keep the lid to the carafe clean and you will never have a user created problem with this coffee maker. We LOVE this machine. The only thing you can do better than here on Amazon is to go and find a refurbished one for half the price! "Good coffee when it is not on the counter.", I have had this coffee maker for about four and a half years. Today, I bid it farewell as I watched the garbage truck empty our garbage can! It made a great cup of coffee; as long as you can keep the brew off your kitchen counter. I would NOT recommend purchasing this product. Like most of the other poor reviews of this coffee machine, I too had the experience of frequent "counter wetting". Want to set its timer to brew coffee for you so it is ready in the morning? Forget it! You will wake up to a large pool of coffee from one end of your counter to the other. I have tried everything from more frequent decalcifying of the carafe lid and filter assembly to coffee grind adjustments (I have had the grounds as coarse as the grinder could go- the next step would have probably been to hit the bean once with a hammer). No success on any attempts. Frequency of occurrence was probably about once a week. It was OK as long as you watched it when it was brewing. Generally, you would start seeing it overflow on the carafe's lid. Repositioning the carafe a bit and tapping the lid (the ball valve sticks shut) would correct the overflow. In summary, I must be masochistic to have put up with this coffee maker for so long. "I'm going to be so spoiled ... ", After years of using a French press, I decided to go with a drip coffee maker. I looked over the available options, and settled on this one. It came yesterday, and this morning I had the best cup of coffee I've had in a long time. I'm currently on my second cup. I love the water filter -- water quality in my apartment is so-so, and that makes a difference as far as taste. I also am looking forward to the timer feature tomorrow morning ... it is so much easier to get out of bed when you have fresh coffee waiting. If I had to be critical, I'd say that the one thing I would change is to make the carafe slightly bigger. My coffee mugs hold closer to 10 oz., so really this works out to be about 5 cups rather than 10. But that's really only an issue for dinner parties since I am typically the only one drinking coffee in my house. I'd recommend reading the instruction manual before operating, just so you don't run into problems other reviewers have noted. However, I found that operating the machine is very easy and requires very little brainpower. I like the style quite a bit, and very much love the thermal carafe. All in all, one of my favorite Amazon purchases ever! "Working great for two years", I have been using this coffee maker for two years now. It still makes an outstanding cup of coffee. The coffee is always great. Hot, good strong flavor and not bitter. As for the lid, I'm too impatient to wait for the coffee to come out. I turned the lid to the "dot" for about the first month. It seemed to take an eternity to pour two "travelers" in the morning for my myself and my wife. I soon learned that I could "spin" the lid open real fast with a single flick, pour two cups neatly VERY fast, then spin the lid back on. "Love it!", I have owned this coffeemaker for about 5 years. Being a coffee geek, I want to let others know that it still makes the best coffee I have tasted. The price hasn't changed in 5 years and I have never had trouble with it. I only gave it a 4 instead of 5 because of the price. 
Read this reviews before You buy... "Capresso 440 Coffee Maker is the Best", I reviewed this coffee maker before but for some reason Amazon sent another review request. Well if you want great tasting and hot coffee this ones for you. You don't need the grinder as part of the coffee maker just get a separate grinder. Use filtered water and fresh ground beans and the Capresso will do the rest. I purchased a refurbish unit, could not tell the difference from new, best buy ever. "Just what I was looking for", This drip coffee maker was exactly what I was looking for. I received my order 2 weeks ago and with the right beans (and Capresso's conical burr grinder) I have been drinking wonderfully brewed coffee every morning since. It is now ~4 hours after my first brew this morning and the coffee I just poured out of the carafe is still steaming hot. I also like that the carafe is not hot to the touch, so I can bring it with me to my home office and just pour out one hot cup of coffee at a time. I have had no spills and everything has worked just as described. The only less-than-perfect item so far is it is messy to clean the grinds out of the reusable filter. But this is the price one pays when using a reusable filter instead of a paper filter. The bonus is that the coffee grinds are a great addition to my compost pile. I highly recommend this product. "Hot its not", I did everything I could to get this coffee maker to make hot coffee. I ran the thermos under hot water and filled it with hot water before I brewed my coffee but the coffee was not hot. By hot I mean it was readily drinkable. I even heated up my coffee mug. The coffee in my old Krups is hotter. I did not notice any difference in the taste between the Krups and the Capressa and I was using $12 a pound coffee. "Carafe doesn't keep coffee warm", I've owned this coffee maker for about a year. I bought it based on reviews on this website. It was a disappointment. The carafe DOES NOT keep the coffee warm very long. I make a pot around 6:00 am. By 7:00 or so, I'm having to heat my cup of coffee in the microwave to get it hot enough to drink. I would like it to keep the coffee a good hot drinking temperature for at least a couple of hours. This one does not. Also, after a years use, it has now started "spitting" steam on every brew. I've cleaned it three times now and it hasn't helped. I start out with 8 cups of water in the tank and wind up with about 7 cups of coffee, not to mention, it is very noisy when it's hissing away all the steam. I will say, it brews a good cup of coffee. If it would just stay hot in the carafe. "The best thermal carafe coffee maker", I have had one of these at work since 2004, just purchased another one for home - it has been rated in the top 5 at consumer reports for the past 4-5 years I believe, to me the built in filter holder and stainless steel water ways is what makes it superb - and of course it makes excellent coffee, especially if you use Caribou-Coffee grounds! If you are amongst us that understand why you NEVER fill water using the carafe, then this is the right coffee maker for you. The only reason it does not get 5 out of 5 is that it is so expensive. |
