Others say...
"Great opener, but poor longevity, found better substitute" We bought this at a Villeroy & Bach factory outlet store for about $14 4 years ago. We loved it the whole time and it saw daily use, but it eventually stopped working because the teeth that turn the can failed. We went back to the outlet store to swap it for a working one and found the store was no more. While we were at the outlet mall we went into a kitchen gadget store we found a "Good Cook" brand "safe-cut opener" (google for "good cook 11834") which is virtually identical (even same insignia on the wheel with teeth that wears out). The two big differences are that the can gripping comes from squeezing levers not force from turning opener (I think the better grip should reduce teeth slippage, reducing wear, making it last longer) and it was just $9. "Worthless" This is the worst can opener I have ever purchased. I was tired of the Dollar Store El Cheapos so I went out to buy the most expensive one I could find. Big mistake! You need to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to fit this to the can, and then a sumo wrestler to turn the knob! "High price, low quality. Buy a Kuhn-Rikon." Effective until it failed after 18 months of occasional use. No longer grips the can edge. No response from the company. $30 piece of junk. Save your receipt. You will need to make warranty claims. Not durable. Poor design. This opener grabs the can parallel to the can side. The Kuhn-Rikon opener is a much better choice: much less expensive, grabs the can perpendicular to the side, giving a tighter grip on the edge, better leverage. "Doesn't last long - Buyers beware" I purchased this product due to the reputation Rosle has and due to they warranty the product for life. Yet when the product failed I cannot seem to figure out how to get it replaced. The gears have stripped out making it impossible to use. My wife cut her hand really bad trying to open a can with it after it failed but she was determined to open the can but this didn't happen. I had to run her to the emergency room and on the way home we stopped and purchased a can open because who knows how long it will take to get Rosle to replace it. I have written emails to the company with no replies yet. As fast as this oriduct failed I believe Rosle will have to either have to correct their design or send me a new can opener annualy on a scheduled basis. When the product works it works well but the product quality is poor if the gears strip out in a years time. "good for only a year" The can opener worked well for the first year, but like a lot of people who have commented, it just stopped working. After a year, Amazon couldn't help. I emailed customer service several times through email at rosle and never got one response. So if you don't mind paying $30 for using a can opener occasionally for a year, this is your product. But for most of us, this just isn't reliable. A can opener is a pretty simple tool and there isn't a reason why it shouldn't "just work" all the time. So although I really liked it the first year, I am very disappointed with the product today. It won't open a can, it just spins in place and pretty much does nothing now and customer service from Rosle is non-existent. So poor value, poor reliability, poor craftsmanship (only lasted a year) and very poor service. i really wanted to like this product but it is nothing more than a paper weight now.

R¿sle Can Opener
Why I buy this one ? - Brilliantly designed can opener provides safety and hygiene - Cuts along side of can's rim without leaving sharp edge - Opener doesn't contact can's contents, lid can't fall into can - German-designed, 18/10 stainless steel; rugged, plastic head - Round, satin-finish handle with hanging ring It's better to buy this one too...

What our customer's say! "Rosle manual can opener", This is a very interesting can opener in that there are no sharp edges on the opened can. This opener creates a lid that is easily lifted off the can. It's great! "Great can opener", Both the service and product are 5 stars! The ease of ordering, delivery, and product quality make me wonder why I ever hop into my car to drive to a store to buy things. "Fantastic safety can opener", This was highly recommended on the Food Network's "Test Kitchen" , so I decided to purchase it. It's expensive at $35 but worth every penny. I won't ever need another can opener! "Eliminate jagged edges!", I love this product. It works well to open cans, a must for any can opener. But it also eliminates jagged edges that can hurt you or anyone tending to your trash or recycling. The only thing that would make this better for aging baby boomers is if it were electric. But it is good for the price. "Rosle can opener peters out", We have had our Rosle can opener for three years and it was incredible. Lifetime warranty, what could go wrong. Well, it just stopped working. The knob turns, but the cutter goes no where. Lifetime warranty? You cannot get it replaced except in Germany. It's not worth the $35 purchase price if it stops working and you cannot get it replaced for free. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Throwing money away", After a year it not longer works. When you pay $30 plus for a can opener, you expect it to last longer. I would not recommend it at ALL!!!!! "Gears stripped after 6 months", I owned this can opener for 6 months before its gears stripped. Prior to that, it was a great can opener. However, I would not recommend this can opener because it did not last, and it was very expensive. My wife reminded me that I also bought one of these can openers for my mother too, so we have spent approximately $60 on this poorly designed can opener. We tried to find the warranty information on the Rosle web site, but came up short. Buying this can opener was a mistake. The popular cooking magazine that recommended this product did not test it long enough in my opinion. They made the same mistake with their top rated garlic press a while ago. The nonstick finish rubbed off after they used this garlic press in their test kitchen for a while after they recommended it. Now they do not recommend that garlic press anymore. Their aim is true, but they really need to change the way they rate their products to include longer term durability tests. A few more poor recommendations like this can opener, and their credibility could be compromised. "Good Can Opener with minor design flaw", I bought this opener in 2002 and it finally failed after about 5 years of regular use. The design is very clever but is not robust enough to last a lifetime like the old fashioned, cut-the top kind of opener. This opener has a drive mechanism that draws the cutter/drive wheel into the outside rim of the can when you first start to spin the handle. Continuing to spin the handle maintains the pressure between the can and the cutter/drive wheel so the can is rotated as the cutter cuts through the outside of the rim. The flaw is that as the the little teeth in the drive wheel wear over time, the contact pressure between the rim and the teeth is reduced and the drive wheel starts to slip. Or, as another reviewer puts it, the can opener "poops out". I like the opener, but would love it if it lasted longer. "Easy to use", Once you get the hang of it (3 minutes), opening cans has never been easier. I had trouble with a tunafish can until I realized I had to hold the bar parallel to the can. After that, all cans were easy. I high recommend this opener. "You get what you pay for", It took me a few times to get used to this can opener. My girlfriend picked it up immediately. It works perfectly every time, although you can't tell you're done opening until you feel the resistance (very little) let up. You can't see that it's open unlike conventional openers. At that time, I turn the handle in the opposite direction about a quarter turn and it lifts right off. I've spent years struggling with cans that were open 3/4 of the way open. That no longer happens. Go around one time, and that's it. I have to mention at my girlfriends request, that this opener doesn't bother her arthritic hands because the handle turns so easily and smoothly. ![]() |
