Others say...

"One word for this and it starts with S"
Come back here and write a review as soon as you get over feeling foolish for not having listened to these reviews.

"Waste of money. They should be ashamed."
I too bought this based on the good reviews. Now I see the bad reviews popping up. Too late for me but not for you! Don't buy this. Although it does seem very nice when you first unpack it, it does not perform anywhere near it's price expectation. I have returned it after several frustrating sessions of angry kids and wasted batter.

My experience has been much the same as the last 2 reviewers. But I want to add one thing. The cord on this unit seems thin and cheap. That is an indicator of poor power management right there as something that would need the power this hulk needs to be and stay hot would have a more substantial cord.

I echo the other negative reviews, do not buy this, you will be sorry.

"Absolute piece of expensive JUNK!"
I bought one thinking the larger size and villaware name would yield great results. I presently use 2 small cuisinarts to pump out enough waffles to keep the masses happy. I cannot tell you strongly enough what an utter failure this maker is. Just like the previous reviewer, I had it on high for several minutes and the lower parts ended up dry and burnt and the upper uncooked. Uneven, slow and way too underpowered. The top sits down unevenly and the weight allows for little flexibility in top rising. It is a shame as the manufacturing and materials seems to be very high quality, but the design is horrid. Proof is in the pudding, and after 8 minutes in this thing at high, the waffles still looked like pudding. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!

"Poor performer or bad luck"
I got this model due to the great reviews. However, due to performance problems, I had to get my first iron replaced by Villaware and the second unit has all the same problems. I plan to return it for a refund and try another model or brand. I must say that Villaware customer support was helpfull. Unfortunately, they can't deliver a workable product.

The biggest problem is the uneven cooking between the two plates. At the highest setting, the top plate could only just start to brown the waffle, while the bottom was almost black. This is not a gravity & batter problem because I flipped the iron over and the plates performed the same in their new positions. (i.e. the top of the waffle was now overdone, while the bottom was underdone)

Other minor problems include a cold spot near the center of the irons. No audible alert (as described in the manual) when the waffle is done, just a green light. The clip to keep the waffle maker closed can unclip on its own.

The non-stick surface worked very well for me.

"Almost perfect"
We have two smaller waffle makers which were OK but each browned the waffles unevenly and were two small. I spent more time waffling than eating. Essentially our family of four would eat in shifts as I prepared the next waffle. The sheer size and ability of this waffler to produce 6 waffles put a quick end to that.

PROS:
-Large size, 6 waffles at a time is great
-Non-stick surface is truly nonstick
-Heats and recovers quickly for fast waffling
-Visually appealing
-Floating upper plate ensure even browning of waffles
-Browness control a plus
-Deep pockets results in crispy waffles

Cons:
-Smaller than normal size waffles
-No on/off switch which resulted in a small spark when I plugged it in the first time, none since
-Still need to occasionaly check the progress of the waffles
-Not so stable stored upright, better if laid flat given it's heft
-Quiet beep when waffler is heated, does not beep when waffles are done as opposed to our other Villaware waffler

What our customer's say!

"B&B certified", We own three of these waffle irons and use them at least once a week for use in our B&B. They are heavy, long-lasting, and the waffles always pop off without sticking. We looked long and hard for a dependable waffle iron and this was the best we could find on the market. After several years of hard work, one gave up the ghost, but we replaced it with another Villaware. Recommended.

"Bummer: what I wished I would have known before buying this lemon!", Man, oh, man...what a huge and EXPENSIVE mistake in buying this "pig." I've had mine for a year now and have never been able to get it to perform well. I've even contacted the manufacturer, to no avail. Essentially, the top element doesn't do the trick and I end up with white-on-the-top and brown-on-the-bottom waffles. If I increase the heat control, I get drier waffles that are much browner on the bottom, but not on the top (it's still white). I've had to flip the waffles over to get browning on both sides.

Not only the cooking woes, but also the fact that it's heavy and clunky, add up to making this a NOT recommended waffler choice.

When I can, I'll find a $15 Toastmaster and toss this crappy VillaWare waffler into a Goodwill donation box.

"breakfast made faster", Last Sunday I actually had 6 warm waffles on my breakfast simultaneously. Contrary to previous reviewers my waffles were crisp and I noticed no problems with the waffler. I also liked the fact that it stands on its side for storage.

"6 at a time waffle iron", this is a great waffle iron. I am so very pleased with it and so is my family. I have had other waffle irons in the past, but for belgian waffles this is the best iron.

"Simply Re-used Parts By VillaWare!!!!", The problem with this is that (as it appears to me) VillaWare has tried to cut corners by re-using all but the plates as it has on it's Panini Grill (which for the record is an excellent product - which I have given rave reviews). Check out the Panini Grill - unless you had these products in front of you & were able to open them up, you'd never be able to tell the difference between them. I would say, don't write off VillaWare products just because of one poor one, as I said I also own the Panini Grill & LOVE IT!!!!!!!! However, don't waste your money on this one - I hope VillaWare does right by their respected name & pulls this off the market completely.

One thing I will say, the "audible warning sound" that was mentioned in a previous review is actually a click - the same as the Panini Grill, but listen carefully or you'll miss it.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"The Best Belgian Waffle Iron!", I recently bought this waffle iron after others that were either not high enough wattage (soft/wimpy exterior) or so small, you became a waffle turner outer for the family.
This waffle iron has the 2 most important things needed for good waffles: more than 1000 watts (1400) and capacity for more than one! It also works pretty fast.
Bottom line: It made nice crispy waffles with cloud-like interiors.
Helpful hint: Use 1 tsp yeast (as they do in Belgium) per 3 cups of flour and let stand for 1 hour (or overnight in fridge) in your recipe (+1C milk, 1C water, 3 eggs, 2/3C sugar, 1/2C melted Butter, 1/2tsp salt, 1tsp vanilla, some orange/lemon zest. All ingredients should be warm or room temp for the yeast to rise) and you'll have the best belgium waffles you ever tasted in this country!
