Others say...
"Better than ironing..." I got this steamer last year because I hate to iron, and I have been pretty pleased with it. It works really well on thinner fabrics like silk, rayon, thin cotton, and on knits. I use distilled water in the steamer to prevent any build-up clogs. It won't work very well on thicker fabrics (like denim), or on very wrinkly woven cotton shirts that didn't get taken out of the dryer right away. To me, it is still better than ironing. "why iron, when you can steam!" I absolutely despise ironing. In college I bought a cheep handheld steamer and had iffy luck with it and then reverted to trading beer for ironing with my roommate. Now 2 years later, after struggling with the iron, I bought this steamer. It was a floor model at Fry's but what the heck, I figured I'd give it a try. (didn't get any attachments or instructions ) It is great. I'm sure if you have the ironing talent you can iron a shirt or slacks faster than it takes to use the steamer but for me, it's just fine. It heats up in about one minute and pushes the steam out. I actually just steamed nice suit and wow was it easy. I'm just over 6 feet tall and wish the built-in hanger was a little taller. But it's okay and stands at about 4.5 feet fully extended. One thing that I did notice is that the first time I ran it, the steam was not exactly consistent and it does make garbles continuously. But after using it a couple times the steam seems more constant. (garbles seem to be the norm) The water jug is easy to use and I've even refilled it while the steamer was running. The person that says it leaks all over the floor must have a defective unit that doesn't fully seal. (it does have a warranty--use it!) So overall, I think it's a nice machine. I'm sure you get what you pay for. So if you want a true professional steamer (like they use in retail) buy one--they will run you 3-5 times the cost of this steamer. I paid $54. Don't pay over $60. Also, don't use tap water the mineral deposits will harm the boiler over time. (I use brita water) "Not What I Had Hoped For..." My first experience with any steamer was years ago when I worked for a retail clothing store. I loved it! All I wanted to do was steam clothes (and I HATE to iron, so that says a lot!)So I was extremely excited to have my very own home steamer. That being said here's my review: The instructions stated that the first few uses might take awhile to get going, that the machine may shut off, in which case the steamer would need to cool down, then start again. Well, this happened practically every time! Not only did it gurgle constantly, the steam came out in a spitting fashion, only for a few minutes and then no steam at all for 3 or 4 more minutes. Then there was the issue with the container to hold the water. Several times I looked over to find a puddle of water coming out from underneath the machine and/or container. Needless to say, I returned the steamer. Based on the other reviews, I believe my experience is not the norm, possibly just one faulty machine. I am hesitant to try another steamer though! "WATCH OUT!!!!!!" I purchased this steamer because I am terrible at ironing and thought this would be simpler. I was wrong! I filled the tank like the instructions said and after it heated, the water started pouring out. I put a towel down, and figured it was no big deal if water leaked on the floor. When the steam came out my husband started to pick up the wand to steam his pants, unfortunately he took his pants off his body to try out the steamer and scalding hot water poured out of the wand and onto his bare leg!!!! "Good while it lasted" I really enjoyed this steamer in the early days. We even named it Rosie, for its robot-like appearance. However, last week (after about 1.5 years) of service, Rosie almost started a fire in my laundry room. I had noticed from time to time that the power plug would get a bit hot. But this time, I discovered black smoke eminating from the outlet ... and the machine was still producing steam, which tells me that it has insufficient short-circut protection. There is no recall that I know of, and perhaps it is a fluke, but nonetheless BE CAREFUL.

What our customer's say! "OK, but still use my iron", This worked, but I still use my iron and this seems to be stuck more in my closet...so, you decide. Could be excellent for steaming velvet or something like it..so it's still a keeper I guess. "Couldn't be Happier (with my Conair GS11 Model)", Maybe this model isn't as great as the model I own, which is the GS11, as I simply couldn't be happier. But maybe my tips will help those with the GS10's just as well. (Still I gave the 5 star rating because I am happy with the company.) IMHO, another great tip for GREAT care for your clothing (thus str-ee-tt-cc-hh-ing your budget) is to invest in a professional quality steamer. I'm not talking about a hand-held style (those have too small of a water reservoir). Personally I love my Conair GS11 Steamer (it was very affordable and I've worked professionally with ones costing upwards to $300 plus). By using my Pro Steaming Tips below, eliminating just 2-3 trips to the cleaners will cover the cost of the steamer. Steaming actually conditions fibers, instead of drying them out "or worse scorching 'em". Knit tops steam up in seconds, without stretching out of shape. Steaming doesn't leave that classic "iron" shine that shows up on some fabrics, as irons will. I can steam wrinkles out of beautiful silk (with no water stains, nothing)! I can steam press a pair of slacks, with gorgeous pressed creases in minutes, even heavy denim. Pro Steaming Tips: 1. If you get a garment steamer, make sure you get one that comes with both a creaser-head. Hang pants with a "pants hanger" upside down by the ends (not the waist). Place the wand (I don't bother with the extension) up and inside the and steaming out the worse wrinkles up and down near the waist. Turn the steamer off (it takes just seconds for the steam to stop) change the steaming head to the creaser-head; clamp the two legs together with the creaser and swoosh down the leg, creasing it. Flip the hanger and swoosh down the second crease (if the fabric is particularly heavy denim, I'll run the head down each leg, instead of both at the same time). Place the steaming wand INSIDE the garment, lifting the fabric up with the wand and steaming the wrinkles out from the inside (eliminating having to hold the fabric taut and burning your hands)! 2. I always use distilled water! NEVER store the steamer away with tap water in it. The minerals and sediment in tap water WILL eventually clog everything up, whereas distilled doesn't (distilled is NOT spring, or purified-type bottled water) and is very affordable. 3. Simply cool the fabric (for a minute or two) before wearing or storing in your closet. Warmly, Sharon Anne P.S. If you like these tips, you will love my website: http://www.sharonanne.com "Suprised", It worked one time then quit. I have never had a product do this before , I guess I got a lemon. "Not good at all", I bought one because of the good reviews however I found out that it takes about 5 minutes to produce one minute worth of hot steam. At that rate it takes about 10 minutes to 'iron' a shirt. When I called Customer service I was told that I need to add more water, I did and then it was overflowing. I had to get rid of it in less than a month for fear of being electrocuted while stepping on the water this machine was leaking. A friend of mine bought one too and she handed it to me because it didn't work for her either. It was used to help remove the wallpaper from the bathroom and then it was gone for good. "Suggest Buying", I have had my steamer for a full year and have found that I can steam most anything within 60 to 90 seconds without creating wrinkles elsewhere. I give it a 4 out of 5 because there have been a few times when my Bo's shirts were more difficult to steam and took longer. None of my women's clothing pants, shirts, skirts of any material have ever taken longer than 90 seconds. I have NEVER had water problems. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "I WANT ANOTHER ONE!!! LOVE IT!", This is a wonderful product! I wish that I had bought at least 2 more while it was on sale. I have steamed everything in my closet! It is so soothing to use, and it works great! It does gurgle a lot, but for the ease of removing wrinkles,I can put up with it. I find myself not wanting to use fabric softener just so I can use this steamer:) Mine came with the crease attachment, and it is awesome! Buy this item, and if you don't like it, contact me and maybe I'll buy it back from you! "No more wrinkles..", I purchased this steamer because I have kids with clothes that always have to be ironed and well small clothes are a pain in the rear to get wrinkles out of without creating new ones. My first use I did ten pices of clothing in just minutes. The person who said that they though the hook for clothes was to low should have tried extending it up, it is adjustable. I stand 5'8" and it is taller than I am. I noticed that you have to make sure the hose is extended and that was simple to do, I just have the base further away from where I am. The lower you hang your clothes the futher away. I can proudly put my iron away until I need something pressed but even then the crease attachment works just as well. ![]() |
