"Love butter? You need a "keeper"" Love it that it keeps the butter soft and spreadable and fresh. This one holds a larger amount than others I have had. It is a bit more awkward to hold, however. It has a wide lid with no handle so you need to grab on to the sides of the lid to pick up. Love the Emile Henry colors! "Broke Mine on Day 2" I LOVE the red color, I like the fact that the container holds 2 cubes of butter. Before buying, I did read that the holder was slippery when wet, and in spite of my being careful, I broke mine because I lost my grip on it due to it being wet. The product is a great concept, and I bought this one because of the color and the capacity, however I wish they would design it a bit differently-perhaps more like the Butter Bell--so that you have something to grab on to. In the mean time, I'll try to Super Glue the holder together. "A nifty little butter dish!" I like this butter dish very much. Butter is so difficult to spread when it has been in the refrigerator. I used to have to put my toast in the toaster oven with bits of butter on it for a few minutes in order to melt the butter so I can easily spread it. But, with this butter dish, I do not have to put the butter in the refrigerator at all. Even in the summer, when it gets warm in the kitchen, the butter stays fresh and spreadable. My hands are small also, but I have not had problems lifting the top. My husband has big hands, and so far he has not dropped it. Before putting the butter in the butter dish, make sure that the butter is slightly soft. I just use a spoon to get the butter inside the lid, and then put water in the bottom part of the butter dish. It is different, and at first I thought it was tricky because the butter is inverted. Sometimes butter will get into the water. Just make sure that the butter is always evenly spread around the inside, and bits of butter will not fall into the water. The water also has to be changed at least every 3 days. These are minor inconveniences compared to having to melt the butter first in order to spread it onto the toast. "Slippery when wet..." Definitely keeps the butter fresh. However, can become slippery and awkward to hold when refreshing the water (especially if you have small hands); on occasion pieces of butter fall in the water. The pottery had some black marks on it which I really didn't expect with Emile Henry; the red is not a "bright" glaze but more of a matte finish. "Wish I had this a long time ago!" I was semi-skeptical that this would work but I am a sucker for red kitchen items. I didn't actually buy this until I saw it in person at a local kitchen store because I wasn't sure how it worked. You soften two sticks of butter, put them into the top part of the pot which is like an upside-down cup, then invert and place in the bottom part. Of course you need a little bit of water in the bottom to create a seal that keeps your butter fresh. Then place anywhere unrefrigerated and the butter is soft and spreadable whenever you want it. No more hard butter on toast! The realy important part is to change the water every couple of days -- I make it part of my morning routine when I am in the kitchen making coffee-- takes only about 5 seconds. Your butter does NOT stay fresh indefinetely, however. After about a month even with fresh water I got some mold in the pot. The pot was nearly empty at the time and what was left fell out into the water. Not a big deal since I typically go through all the butter faster than a month's time, so I've only seen this happen once. After the butter is used up, I wash the butter pot (it is dishwasher safe) and fill up again. Wish I had this years ago! The red is a great shade, and it matches my cherry red Le Creuset poterie dishes nicely.

"Excellent Butter Dish", This is exactly what I have been researching for some time. It meets all of my expectations!!! Change the water wednesday and on the weekend and the butter is perfect everyday!!! "Butter Pot", This butter pot is okay. It is not a good as the cook street butter boat, but it seems to do the job. The instructions are not that clear, I had to look them up on the internet. In short, put the butter in the lid, fill the bowl with cool water and then put the lid back into the bowl. The water and butter don't mix (oil and water). If your butter gets a little wet, don't worry it isn't bad or anything. Just remember to change the water every couple of days or your butter may go bad. "Love this butter pot!", My husband loves room temperature butter, but we don't use plastic ware and didn't like previous glass/ceramic butter dishes since they let in air and were messy. The water reservoir in this butter pot seals to keep out air, and isn't difficult to fill (holds just shy of two sticks) and clean. "Why in the world didn't I get one of these before?!?", My family loves butter. We love soft butter so I've kept a stick of butter in the cupboard (our home remains around 73-76degrees) only to have to toss it out on occasion because the color changes, doesn't look as creamy as fresh, soft butter. Enter the butter pot. It definitely is different. You store the butter in the top portion of the set. The top acts as a cover but when you open it, the butter container is inverted so that when you replace the lid / butter container back, it's immersed in water. You do have to replace the water every few days but no biggie. Emile Henry's colors are fabulous!! Love it!! My only complaint are that I worry that some point, I'll drop it. I wish the lid portion was a smidge smaller so I can grab it with one hand confidently. "Best way to store butter", Butter stays fresh, out in the open and easy to spread. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "What a messy thing!", I was disappointed in this product. The butter slid out of the bell and into the water. I think it would be better if the inside of the bell wasn't glazed. "Excellent Product", We've had this product for about a month now and it works exactly as promised. It is very nice to have butter you can actually spread. I have already sent this as a gift to other "butter lovers". If you enjoy butter this is a must have. As with all of our Emile Henry products, the quality is top notch. "This pot will pay for itself in butter freshness", I like real butter. It's a pain to keep spreadable. The conundrum is that you want it fresh, so you keep it in the fridge, but keeping it there makes it hard and it tears up the bread and is annoying to use. Butter costs enough that I'm sure I've wasted the price of this pot several times over every few months from butter going rancid in a butter dish kept on the kitchen counter. This pot uses water as a "lid" to keep oxygen away from butter that is left out of the refrigerator. You do have to keep the "bell" filled but this is not a tough job. Now I can keep butter blocks frozen, thawing only enough for the pot (about two sticks) -- and it will keep fresh for at least a week, not a BIT of rancidity creeping in anywhere. You can tell by the smell and color it's totally fresh. The red color is beautiful, a true scarlet, almost Chinese red. The workmanship is nice, it looks handmade. It's heavier than expected, a real pottery feel. It would make an unusual and appreciated gift for anyone who cooks or enjoys soft butter. I have another version of this device, but I prefer this one, simply because it holds twice as much, eight ounces instead of four. If you're as fond of buttered toast as I am, and as aggravated by trying to soften hard butter in the microwave, you'll really appreciate the Butter Pot. As with all Emile Henry ware, this is an extremely well-maide item, that should last for years. ![]() |
