"Fast heater, bad smell"
This is a slick water heater. It is 1500 watts so it heats the water quickly. It doesn't have any insulation so the water doesn't stay hot, but it doesn't take long to reheat. The electrical connection is through the base, so if you take the kettle off the base the connections shuts off, and that's slick. The kettle does make the water hot!

What's not to like? Well, the inside of the kettle is stainless steel with a stainless steel tube running from the bottom to above the water level. On top of the tube they put on a plastic cover! The plastic cover plus the plastic nut holding the handle on the lid imparts a smell and a bit of a taste to the water. We used it for about 2 weeks then decided to order a replacement kettle (different brand). We don't usually send things back so this kettle may end up in my shop for when I need hot water.

I'd like to recommend this product, but the plastic parts pretty much ruin it, in my opinion.

"Electric Teakettle"
This kettle heats quickly and works well, but the hot water it generates has a metallic taste to it. I've tried different waters, but the taste is always the same. For this reason I would not purchase it again. I am hoping that in time that taste may disappear, but it's several months old now and it has not changed.

"Chefs Choice 685"
Works just fine, heats water super fast. Inside of kettle does have a slight odor, but tea tastes good..

"Heated Water Smells & Tastes Like Hot Metal"
This kettle works really fast, but the water has a very unpleasant taste & smell. I filled it full of water & baking soda and boiled it then cleaned out the inside, this helped a bit but I still can't drink a cup of tea made with water from this kettle.

"Electric Kettle"
This was a gift for a senior citizen- and he loves it. It is very fast, much quicker than stove top kettles.

What our customer's say!

"Good but there are better choices", We ordererd the Chefs Choice 685 because of its looks and reviews, but returned it due to three reasons (a) very flashy silver color, we prefer a matte look (b) cover does not fit smoothly, especially when pulling out and spills water on the kettle surface when removed (c) very light and not rugged. Apparently one of the earlier comments might be true that Chinese made models are not as well made as German made. We ended up buying the Breville

"Look mom, no plastic!", Are you looking for an electric kettle that's plastic free on the inside?
If so, this kettle may be for you.

The boiling water does not come into contact with any plastic pieces. There is a plastic water level marker inside the kettle (indicating the highest you should fill the kettle), but the water sits below it. So no worries!

The top sits snugly and needs a good tug to remove, but it boils quickly and works well.

"Great Kettle!!", This kettle works great. It heats the water very quickly. I especially like the automatic shut-off feature. I have read other reviews about other kettles that develop funny smells and such but this kettle does not do that. The only thing I have noticed is there is some noise coming out of the kettle as the water boils but that really doesn't bother me. It's probably just the water boiling. I would recommend this kettle!

"One of the best", This kettle was a replacement for a now retired Bodum product, and it has lived up to it's name! It's a really great kettle, heating fast and keeping water hot for a little bit longer than the others in the field. Although it is a little pricey, it's also well worth the money because it's got sturdy construction and a nice design.

Recommended for dorm rooms and other places that require automatic shut-off.

"My choice is Chef's Choice!", I am SO happy with this kettle. I agonized over 3 designs, 2 brands and feel this was the correct choice. It looks great on the counter-top, heats very quickly and is easy to clean.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"great teakettle", I read a lot of reviews, some of them not so enthusiastic, so I was a little worried about this teakettle. So far I love it. It is very attractive and very easy to use. The water heats up very fast and pours without mess. I really have no issues with it at all and recommend it highly.

"Cordless Tea pot ", The teapot works very well, and is a very safe product. The only complaint I have so far , is the metalic taste of the water . I have tried using filtered water and bottled water , and the metalic taste and smell still come thru. I am hoping it will disappear in a few more weeks.

"Take the Hassle out of Brewing Tea", Chef's Choice 685 International Deluxe Cordless Electric Teakettle
This one's a charmer. It heats water for brewing to just the right temp, then shuts itself off. Amazing how it takes the fuss out of tea brewing. So much so that I've switched from coffee to tea, morning til night. A pleasure to use. Convenient. And seemingly foolproof. (Of course, I've only had it for a few weeks. Maybe others who've used it longer could have a different view. But, at least for now, my impression is strong and favorable -- highly favorable.)

"Bad taste", I wanted to like this kettle but the scorched metal taste of the water was unacceptable. I expected it to take a few uses before the bad taste dissipated but after a couple of dozen times the taste and smell was still very strong. So back it went. I'll go back to the Braun. It may be plastic but at least it's drinkable.

"Chef's Choice cordless electric teakettle", I love it. It heats a whole pot of water quickly. Looks great on the counter.
