Others say...
"So far I really like it!" So far, I really like the vacuum. It seems to pick up real well. It is very easy to dump the dirt out. "Great" It's important to clean up dust in our household for allergic purposes, and this vacuum certainly picks up a lot of filth. My wife and I love it. Low price, not annoyingly loud (although I wouldn't call it quiet), not so hard to empty (put fliter in a bag and beat it on the ground; that'll clean it up), seemingly thorough, although I haven't tried any other models in this house, and I don't really have any particular way to test that it's picked up all that there is to find. Nonetheless, we're very satisfied and would recommend this without reservation to all of our friends. "good vacuum, but hard to clean" I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to miss bags. The filter plugs up with debris. When you try to clean it, dust flies everywhere. Emptying the canister is similar. I don't know if there is a vacuum out there that is easier to empty. This one isn't terrible, but it doesn't make it very easy either. "Great for Pets" We have been using our Litespeed for nearly a year and a half (if not longer), and I am continually amazed (and appalled) at how fast the cannister fills up. (Several birds and two dogs can put quite a hurt on plush carpet.) We have never had a problem with it, other than the dog smell it emits to remind us that it is time to clean the dust cup filter. If there are more powerful vacuums out there, and with price as a guide I'm sure there are, we haven't yet felt a need to upgrade. I have heard good things about the Dyson vacuums, particularly with regard to pets, but Consumer Reports did not appear overly impressed in their annual buying guide. To be fair, they weren't overly impressed with the Litespeed, either. The only true test is to vacuum your carpet first with the Litespeed, then with the competition, and decide for yourself. Bottom line: Great price, and a real workhorse. Powerful suction direct from the hose and with attachments. Easy cleaning and filter replacement. HEPA. "Great vacuum" I've never owned a Eureka before, I grew up with Hoovers, but this Eureka is a great price and a powerful vacuum. I mostly wanted to add that the dust bin is HUGE, so when other reviewers complain that the dust bin fills up too quickly, you should take this as a compliment, not a complaint! It must be sucking up a huge amount of dust to fill up so quickly. I did my small three-bedroom apartment (which was not so dirty in the first place) and nearly filled up the dust bin.

Eureka 5740A Litespeed Bagless Genesis Upright Vacuum
Why I buy this one ? - True HEPA filtration; bag-free dust collection - 13-inch cleaning path for efficient floor coverage - Extension wand; crevice tool; dustin brush - 30-foot power cord; 12-amp motor - Lightweight and quiet What our customer's say! "Makes Dog Hair Disappear!", I rarely review products, but this one deserves it! I have a dog who is a world-class shedder, and this vacuum works wonders on my carpets. It runs quietly, is lightweight and easy to maneuver, and and picks up ALL of my dog's hair in one pass (even when the hair is deep in the carpet and during the heavy-shedding seasons). The only drawbacks I have found is that the filter could be a bit easier to clean, and the exhaust smells a bit "doggy" when the filter gets full. But the cleaning power and effectiveness of this vacuum more than make up for any drawbacks. You will not be sorry if you go with this machine! "Best Vacuum I have ever had, and a Great price", I have had this vacuum for about 2-3 years. It has been a great vacuum. My only problem is the rotary brush has malfunctioned and had to be replaced. Eureka did this with no problem. I still support a vacuum so strong it is melting its rotary brush. Anyway, I have moved on to a Dyson. I still use the Eureka to check-up on the Dyson. It has caught many a Dyson miss. Also, this product is somewhat self propelled and has a cord catch to hold the cord at whatever length you need. Despite the cheap plastic construction, it has been a great vacuum and competed with some of the best on the market. While I have the new fancy vacuum, I still keep this one around and use it when my wife is not looking. I sure hope their other products are this good. "Not as advertised", I've had this vacuum for about 1 year now. Just a background, my wife does most of the vacuuming around the house and she wanted an upright to replace our old Hoover cannister vacuum that had broken. Anyway, I noticed that after I purchased the vacuum that she was not using it that often and that she complained that it wasn't a very good vacuum - didn't think too much of it since it didn't really affect me too much (I don't vacuum much, lol) and it was kinda inexpensive (was a gold box purchase). Instead, she started to use a cordless Shark vacuum. Recently, I tried using this vacuum on multiple occasions. For the Pros: 1) inexpensive 2) It moves along pretty easily and is maneuverable. 3) It has a HEPA filter which supposedly helps DURING the vacuuming. Now for the Cons: 1) The little filter inside the cannister gets clogged very quickly and makes the suction power worthless. You constantly have to unclog this sponge filter to make it work correctly. 2) The HEPA filter is useless for those with allergies (myself being one of those) since the dust goes ALL OVER THE PLACE when you empty the cannister. 3) Very few attachments and the hose doesn't reach very high places. 4) Very loud vacuum. On the Amazon review: "One of the company's quietest upright models..." - I'd hate to have to listen to one of their noisiest models! It's like listening to an airplane take off (and my wife keeps saying that I'm hard of hearing). Overall, I'm rather disappointed in this model. I will probably look into the Dyson vacuums (a lot more money), but will probably go to Sears or somewhere to actually try it before I buy. "2 Years and Never a Problem", The reason this vacuum is currently unavailable is because word of mouth has spread, this is the best vacuum at the lowest price you can find. I purchased this at Amazon when money was short and my old Hoover had died. It arrived quickly and I found that it assembled easily with a Phillips screwdriver, and when I turned it on and vacuumed I was amazed at what it picked up. The first time I vacuumed with it I had to empty the cannister twice. My old 70's style shag carpet look fluffly and brand new. I have been worried about the quality of the item, but it's over two years old and I never changed a belt. With this vacuum, you get more than what you pay for! My life is definitely twenty to thirty times more dust-free because of this vacuum, it picks up well enough that all my furniture is less dusty because walking around stirs up less dust from the carpet. Life is easier and better. A friend of mine who originally recommend I check out Eureka Hepafilters has severe allergy problems and tried and returned several more expensive models, but has kept this one because it beats the pants off all the others and she says she doesn't even sneeze when she empties the cannister. So this is definitely the one to get. I trust Amazon a lot, but if you can't get it here, search for it elsewhere. You can't go wrong. Watch out for the model numbers though. Some of the other Litespeeds aren't rated as highly. Get this one, don't even think twice. Now, if you're one of those filthy people who only vacuum twice a year and have five dogs, ten children or roomates and a bunch of debris lying around cause you're too fat and sloppy to bend over, I couldn't tell you if this vacuum is up to snuff for you (hey, clean your sty ya filthy pig!) but for regular usage by concerned housekeepers, don't think twice, this vacuum is for you. "Great for 1 1/2 years.....", So, I've just figured out that really, when I'm looking at online reviews, I ought to look for people who have owned the item for a while! I bought this vacuum cleaner in October 2003. I loved it for a while. It picked up wonderfully. I loved seeing how much dirt got sucked into the clear canister! However. Two months ago the ball bearings froze up and melted the beater bar. We bought a used Eureka cleaner as a temporary vacuum while we waited for the parts to come in. The same thing happened with that Eureka! My husband fixed the old one with the parts that came in, and then it happened again. I think this must be a defect with Eureka vacuum cleaners. The best part about coming back and writing this online review for me is seeing that I didn't pay very much for the vacuum cleaner. :-) ![]() Read this reviews before You buy... "Eureka WhirlWind LiteSpeed Vacuum ", I spent well over a thousand dollars on the latest generation Kirby thinking I was getting the best vacuum possible. When we needed a new vacuum for the showroom at work I searched reviews for units under $150 and found the Eureka. When I purchased it my boss informed me he had the same unit at home and loved it. After a week the carpets looked better than they had in months. I was so impressed I bought one to try at home, at first my wife was upset that I needed a new vacuum after recently spending big money for the other one. A week later all were convinced and no one has used the Kirby in over 6 months. One of the other people at work replaced her Kirby as well. I'm not saying the Kirby is bad because it's not but the Eureka WhirlWind LiteSpeed Vacuum is the best I have ever used especially since we have dogs that shed and my wife and daughter have allegies. Since switching neither have had any allergy problems related to the home. "Very nice vaccuum for a good price.", I just purchased this vaccuum and used it for the first time. It does a great job. It picked up stuff I didn't know existed in my carpet. It's quiet and it is easy to move around the carpet. The only drawbacks are the relatively small dirt container and lack of attachments. But how often do we use those attachments anyway. I'll just have to get use to emptying the container every couple of rooms... "Eureka Whirlwind", We have two long-haired cats and were looking for something that was reasonably priced and could handle pet hair on both hard floor and carpet. After reading the reviews, we went out and purchased the Eureka Whirlwind. We are extremely happy. We even use it to clean up the excess litter that gets tracked across the floor. I have had no complaints whatsoever. We have had it for over a year and it still works like the day we purchased it. I even recommended it to my parents who have two dogs and a house full of carpet. They also are extremely pleased with the results. "Trade-up!", This vacuum is GREAT! It's quiet, light, and.....you can hear all the yukky stuff tinkle into the bagless dirt container. I had a Bissell CleanView before. The Bissell was LOUD, and it had a very small dirt container. GO EUREKA!!! I just wish that they made the cord a little longer. Bissell--died after 1 year of LOUD service. EUREKA--still quiet with EXCELLENT suction. You're making the right choice looking into this Vacuum! "Great vacuum for the price in my apartment", This vacuum is good for my apartment: hardwood/tile/area rug floors, furniture, and a cat that sheds A LOT! PROS: It does really well on rugs and gets all the cat hair and then some. Plus, its really fun to watch the dirt in the clear canister. It has a light on the front and seems to propel itself along well. Easy to put together, cord is long, easy to the get the canister in and out, the brush is good for the furniture. CONS: Emptying the canister can be a little dusty, but I think it could be a lot worse. There should be more attachments. All you get is a crevice one and a little brush one. I am not fully satisfied with how it vacuums the hard floors, but it is acceptable. It is a little heavy, I wouldn't want to lug it up the stairs. OVERALL: I feel that it was a good buy for the price. If you are looking for a first vacuum for an apartment, like me, this is great. ![]() |
