"Just try and find a replacement battery..."
Go ahead...I dare ya...just try and find a replacement battery for one of these things....

"reliable but so so performance"
I haven't had the issues with my batteries running out, except when I've used it for longer than 10 minutes at a time. I've had mine for about 3, almost 4 years. It picks up kitty litter, but isn't the greatest at fur or anything that might be remotely static-y or sticky. I got mine from a friend, but I'd probably buy something else. The filter is a royal pain in the kiester, and always skeeves me out, blah! On the whole, reading other reviews, I'm shocked that mine has held out so long...we use it all the time!

"Not Worth The Dirt It Supposedly Picks-up"
I've had the DustBuster for less than a year and have used it for light clean-up in my kitchen. The blower on the unit actually blows the dirt away, so I end-up having to chase after it.

My biggest complaint, however, is that after 6 months of relatively infrequent use, the unit only ran for about 45 seconds. Now it doesn't run at all, because the battery has to be replaced, and I precisely followed the directions regarding proper battery care in order to prolong the life of the battery.

Please save your money and just use a broom or a more reliable shop-vac. The battery performance in this unit has been extremely disappointing.

"older version has worked 4 years"
I have an older version of this hand vac and it has served me well. I have replaced the filters occasionally, although they were hand washable. I have 2 original batteries, and bought 2 new ones two years later. So that's one battery a year, essentially. Sure the batteries run down, but that's what the charger is for! Have a spare on hand (they are sold cheaper in 2-packs anyway). It picks up beads and cat litter great. Only complaint is that you have to take the filter out to empty it, and it drops stuff if it gets too full. Otherwise, my old one is a great product, so I ASSUME the newer one is even BETTER! I'll be buying another soon.

"Junk"
I join the chorus of those who say this is just a terrible piece of goods. Very, very poor battery performance. Despite following "rules" such as allowing it to run down completely, not leaving on charging all the time, Etc. it still fails to take and hold a full charge. Runs at low power for only very short time. Not worth buying, not worth replacing batteries, not worth having one !

"Battery Problems", I share the sentiment of many others regarding the battery. I've had mine for maybe 4 months when all of a sudden it would only run at full power for less than a minute. I see that people are saying that you shouldn't leave it on the chargers all the time. If that is the case, why did they make the charger to function as a storage place as well. It comes with screws to place it on the wall. I keem mine there all the time, plugged in. If they didn't want people to keep it on the base all the time they should have stressed that in the direction and modified the design of the base. I loved it until the battery started running down on me.

"UNDELIVERED... ", I WOULD LOVE TO REVIEW THIS PRODUCT... HOWEVER...IT HAS YET TO BE DELIVERED!!! AS YOU CAN SEE THIS ORDER WAS PLACED ON 02-13-06 AND ALL I RECEIVE ARE EMAILS STATING NEXT WEEK, NEXT WEEK...

CAN ANYONE CALL ME & EXPLAIN THIS POOR SERVICE.........

"poor performance caused by a bad charger", Like most of the other reviewers, my problem is with poor battery performance. I leave my unit on charge all the time, and I expect the charger to handle maintaining the batteries. They're call SMART CHARGERS. They've got a little chip that controls the charging, and keeps the battery from getting overcharged or developing a memory. This item DOES NOT have such a charger, which makes it a piece of junk. Most people who own one of these, myself included, will leave it on charge continually when not in use. With an intelligent charger, this would be fine. With the charger that comes with this unit, the battery is continually feed a charge, which over a number of months ruins the battery from constant overcharging. That makes this item A PIECE OF JUNK. The way most people use this product, leaving it on charge, ruins it in a relatively short period of time. The manufacturer knows this, but has chosen not to improve it so that this won't happen. That is a very poor design, and a lousy product. So, don't buy it. I wish I could give this item half a start, but one star is as low as amazon goes.

"batteries", This is not worth buying. It is extremely underpowered and batteries are nearly impossible to find. Even went on the Black and Decker website, no luck.

"Stay clear of this unit", It is underpowered and finding replacement batteries is a mission in itself. We purchased the 9 volt version and it is head and shoulders a better unit. Spend a few extra dollars for the 9 volt and you will not be disappointed.

"lvbgal - please don't read more about me", This hand held cordless vac is useless. I am throwing it in the garbage. It will not pick up any dirt. Mine has been used just a few times and it is useless.

"Black & decker Dust Buster Model 250 Type 2", Jan 29, 2003

This vacuum is ok for small clean ups, but not the best. It is not avery reliable product. Received this vacuum as a gift 12/25/ 99. After a year and half, the battery had to be replaced. Now six months later in Jan 2003, it is not working. It only runs less than a half minute. It was not used that extensively. I wll not spend the money to check for repair or replace the battery.

"A word about rechargeable batteries", Some reviewers have complained about poor battery performance with this product. While I haven't used this particular item myself, I've noticed that those who have had problems are leaving their Dustbusters on charge continuously. This may be the cause of their problems. Leaving a rechargeable battery on charge continuously is not good for such batteries. It causes a condition called "voltage depression" to develop. (It's sometimes erroneously called "memory effect," but that's actually a different phenomenon.) My recommendation is that after fully charging your rechargeable device, REMOVE it from the charger! Also, allow the device to run the batteries all the way down occasionally, then recharge. These two actions should maximize rechargeable battery performance.

"Works well", This unit lasts long enough to clean up small areas--exactly as it is supposed to do. Works particularly well cleaning up fallen pine needles from a Christmas tree. ;)
