Others say...
"You Get What You Pay For" After spending $200+ on my last vacuum, only to have it die after about 3 years, I decided to spend less on this Euro-Pro Shark. So what if I have to replace it earlier, I figured -- I'll still be ahead of the game, pricewise. I couldn't have been more wrong. Within the first week, the belt started burning and had to be replaced. Within 2 months, we've replaced the belt twice more. I'm now looking at replacing it after 3 months -- at this rate, I would have been better off buying another $200 plus vacuum that would last me 3 years. I learned my lesson -- you really do get what you pay for! "The Honda Civic of Vacuum Cleaners" My company has gone through so many vacuum cleaners (about 1 every 6 months). Even the $600 so-called industrial vacuums broke down at about the same rate. This is the only vacuum that's indestructible! After sucking up saw dust and wax as well as other nasty stuff, the bag might break but it will keep working as new after some minor maintenance (You have to replace the bag and wash the two motor filters full of dust and junk with water and that's it). "Big disappointment" After 10 years with a Hoover vaccuum I was ready to purchase a new vaccuum. What a big disappointment it was when after only 2 months this vaccuum over heated and burned up belts by the dozens. I would not reccommed this product to anyone! "IT'S WONDERFUL --- WHEN IT WORKS" We bought cause it looked cute in the store and it wasn't too pricy. The problem is it overheats easily causing the rubber belt to melt. Removing the cover and changing the belt is a struggle. You may also have problems finding the belts to purchase. The ones I've seen in the store come with the bags which I don't really need right now. I was disapointed that it's quite noisy although maybe slightly less so than the old Eureka we have. So now we have two clunkers and will have to soon shop for a decent vacuum cleaner. "HUGE disappointment!" I was ready for a new product, flooded by praise of this forward thinking company and in reality all I got was HYPE, no performance. The motor overheats after 4-5 minutes of use and requires a 15 minute "rest". I need to preclean all areas as this vac hasn't any real power at all. The motor has a nasty whirr-humm. This is a clunker, spend your dollars elsewhere, I wish that I had!

Euro-Pro Shark EP704SH Spectra Upright Vacuum
Why I buy this one ? - Slim, 1440-watt, full-size upright vacuum weighs just 13 pounds - Extra-large wheels for easy maneuverabilty - Handles pivots 90 degrees to clean in spaces only 8 inches high - Dusting brush and crevice tool included; bag-full indicator - 4-position carpet-height adjustment What our customer's say! "before you throw it out...", We've had the Shark Spectra for about a year and a half, and in that time, we've experienced no significant problems with it. I use it to keep two large area rugs and a staircase clean. The suction is good, but admittedly, I never take it off of the highest suction setting. It's plastic so you have to be careful with it, especially when you are changing the bag and filters. I decided early on not to use the paper bag replacements because it was such a pain to get them on right. I use the fabric bag that it comes with and dump out the dust into a separate bag when it comes time to clean. This isn't that messy and saves me fifteen minutes to half an hour wrestling with the paper bag replacements. A couple of weeks ago the vacuum suddenly lost suction. It was spewing back dust and dirt despite a bag change, filter replacement, and major inspection of its parts. The brush was rotating, so I didn't think that there was a problem with the belt. We were about to throw it out after reading the reviews but at the last minute, I decided to check the belt just in case. Turns out that there was an accumulation of dust and hair blocking the suction hose. There was hair wrapped all around the brush, and I now realize that the brush had only budged because I had manually turned it. So if you lose suction, I would check the suction hose located under the bottom plate that holds the brush in. Also, clean the brush and around the bottom plate, where a lot of dust accumulates. I'm still amazed that we didn't break anything in the process of taking it apart. The vacuum cleaner is working again. It isn't a high-class vacuum but it works well with area rugs. I would not get this if you have wall-to-wall carpets. I have a feeling that it would fall apart with frequent use. "Less Than Nil...", This vaccum cleaner does not hold up to even one star. Shark International ought to be ashamed- as well as forced to withdraw this product from market as the fire hazard and all-around general nuisance that it most assuredly has shown itself to be. Please, do not allow yourself to be swayed by a cute design. Do not listen to a smooth sales pitch about the reputation of the manufacturer. Do not fall victim to a low sales price. No design, no reputation, no amount of price reduction can ever make up for the heartache owning this product will create. Yes, admittedly, it is many of those positive things that have already been said by other reviewers. It most certainly is cute and light weight, but let me tell you, you really are not thinking too much about how good it looks or how little it weighs while the motor is overheating, pouring out its foul electrical smoke, and causing the rubber belts to literally melt right off the roller/beater bar (which, in itself, adds an interesting odor to air you are breathing in your home). Yes, it is quiet, at least it is before that motor begins its dance with danger, then it begins to make a hard-to-describe noise, but one you just know spells "B-A-D" with each revolution of its spindly little motor. Yes, it has a double light to help you see all the dirt, dirt you simply cannot pick up due to the fact that the vacuum stopped working safely during its FIRST DAY of operation. Yes, at first, the bags and the onboard attachments do seem convenient, but that is before the plastic on the parts begin to split and crack, which mine did on the very FIRST DAY of operation. And, of course, that's when you find out that the only place you are ever going to find replacements are online, so, since you are ordering anyway, be prepared to buy a lot of belts and bags too, and to spend much more money on them than they are worth. Yes, Shark has a Customer Service Department, but it sucks far more than this vacuum cleaner ever did- when it ever did, which, again, I cannot say often enough, ended the FIRST DAY that I tried to use it. After all the bad stuff happens, the only option you will be left with is to pay an exorbitant shipping and insurance cost to send it off for repair by a group of people who have already done everything they can to talk you out of returning it in the first place. (Once you do call, you can tell that you are hardly the first person to have the same problems, as they have obviously rehearsed their entire spiel.) "Customer Service," to Shark simply means "Talk 'em out of whatever you can, then, if you cannot, make it so impossible for them to get any reasonable, affordable service that they just give up and go away." "Caveat Emptor"- the simple "Buyer Beware"- is not a strong enough warning to the potential buyers of the Shark UP704SH vacuum cleaner. "Fugio Emptor- Velox!"- "Buyer Run Away- Fast!"- is the far, far better, more appropriate phrase. "This vacuum is a lemon, it overheats constantly, see more...", Ever since we purchased this vacuum, it has overheated constantly. We contacted Europro in an attempt to get it fixed under warranty, but all we got was a run-around. Rude telephone service made the experience even less pleasant. After many conversations, I was told I could send my vacuum to the only place they could repair it, at my own cost, if I insured it first, at my own cost as well, to a place in the United States (I live in Canada). I simply can't afford to do this. I can't afford to buy a new vacuum either. I bought this one when my old vacuum broke after I maintained it in good running shape for 13 years. This one gave me grief in under 3 weeks. My advice is to buy a vacuum form a company that you know will be able to service your product near you. I wish I did. "Burns up to quickly", I bought this vacuum and liked it at first but then you go through belts like crazy as they burn up real quick. Everytime I use it it smells like something is burning. A hose on it broke and I can not find replacement parts for it. And you can only order the replacement bags online. Don't waste the money on this one. "Don't waste your money", I bought this product less than a year ago and it won't recognize a new bag. It is a piece of junk. Don't waste your money. ![]() Read this reviews before You buy... "Wonderful cleaning! Lousy on-off switch!", Had this 4 months. Never saw such great suction power and cleaning ability! I gladly overlooked how heavy it seemed, how heavy the cord was, and how loud it was (sometimes it whistles, even!) My only big disappointment was that the on-off switch started malfunctioning (not turning on without lots of jiggling, etc.) the 2nd time I used it! Now it takes a couple minutes of wangling the switch before it turns on. It's warranteed for 1 year, but Euro-Pro's website isn't up and running yet and I haven't been successful getting through to the customer service yet to see where to get it repaired. Too bad so many of these great machines have a defective switch! Who wants to bother packing up a vacuum for service, anyway?? "Excellent performance for the money", The quietest vac I have owned. This thing is so silent that the agitator brush striking the carpet makes more noise than the actual fan motor...now that's quiet. The color and styling of the machine are just great, this thing looks as high tech as it is. It has excellent suction power and has the ability to lay virtually flat enough to be pushed under a bed. Very wide cleaning path and 25' cord are a plus. I also like the fact that it has twin headlights for finding dirt in low-light places. The machine has a true HEPA filter and comes with a reuseable bag, 3 paper bags, and 2 spare belts. "Don't waste your money", I tried this vacuum in the store and was impressed with the extra large back wheels that made it push smoothly. I got it home and the vacuum overheated constantly. It takes at least a half hour for the thing to cool down so you can use it again. I thought that I might have just have a lemon so I exchanged it for a new one. Same thing. It clogs very easily and requires four screws to be removed to take the top cover off to get to the belt or anything that might need unclogging inside. Then it is a challenge to get the cover back on. The only thing I like besides the easy maneuvering is the reuseable bag. ![]() |
