Others say...
"Parts keep breaking" We have bought this pressure cooker in Bed Bath and Beyond. In less than a year the lower part of the handle broke, and the replacement costs around $15. It is now about 3 years since we own this pressure cooker and the valve has broken and it will cost me another $16 to get a replacement part. I find it very annoying that such an expensive item keeps being costly over time. I guess it is great for Fagor to keep the money flow in, but they sell themselves as beeing "Green", and therefore they should not use parts purposedly made to break every year or two!!!! Other than that, all the nice things written by other reviewers are true. "Splendid indeed!" This is an excellent pressure cooker! I bought another cooker before (not by Fagor) and returned it because it did not have manual pressure relilef. This pressure cooker has everything I need and is very fast. I tried several recipes and they are very good. Liked their beefstroganoff very much. My little daughter liked soups. Meat cooks really fast. I use this cooker very often. "Pressure started leaking within a few days of use" After about a week of use, the pressure cooker has started to leak steam even when the knob is adjusted to stop it from doing so. I am disappointed and don't recommend it to others. "good so far, cant predict for how long" good cooker, have used all brands past 15 years, use every single day. All previous had safety valve failuress sooner or later. This one works well, cant say for how long. If it goes beyond a year, I'll give it 5 stars. "Warranty is useless" We bought this pressure cooker from Macy's. The body and handles are still in very good condition after about 1 year of moderate use. However, the red/purple-ish lock on the upper handle began to deform by the heat from the cooker (it is shielded from the stove burner by the lower handle), making the open and lock operation harder and harder, until finally the plastic piece is stuck to the open position rendering the pot thing useless. Fagor's warranty does not cover this. I was instructed to place an order for the upper handle assembly which costs over 1/3 of the price of the entire thing. I can't see how the problem is not caused by a defect in the material, or why one should continue spend money on the company's product.

What our customer's say! "Not what I am used to", I am used to a pressure cooker that I could hear the regulator rocking from the pressure to let me know that it is cooking correctly; therefore, I scorched and overcooked food because I was expecting to hear the regulator. If that part wouldn't bother you, it would probably be fine. I am sending mine back. "Made in china", First I guess my biggest dsappointment was that this item is made in China. I am trying to avoid items made in China. Fagor advertises their product is European made in Spain. Secondly the instrucitons say to put olive oil on the seal. Well the day I put olive oil on the seal it burnt so I need to replace it after only 5 uses. I am still debating whether it is worth the extra money to constantly replace seals. Maybe I will just use it as a sauce pan for I do have a lid that fits. Haven't decided yet. Money is tight. Otherwise it did cook the items fast but don't think it is worth the extra money to replace seals all the time. "Fagor vs Presto", I have a Presto 4 qt. pressure cooker which I like a lot, but wanted something bigger so I bought the Fagor 6 qt. The inside diameter of the Fagor is 8 3/4" vs 8 3/8" for the Presto, 3/8" difference which may not seem like much, but I cook mostly with stainless steel inserts, bowls and the like, to get the double boiler effect, and it's easier to get the bowls out of the Fagor, a tricky job when they are still hot. But the Fagor makes a hissing sound at a pitch I didn't like at all. So I went back to the Presto which makes a nice chuga-chuga sound with the little cap rocking back and forth, a sound I actually find pleasing (I'm a violinmaker, so sound matters to me). But then I found an old aluminum cooker at Goodwill, which I scavenged for the vent tube and cap, and installed it on the Fagor. Voila! A Fagor-Presto. It has the size I like and now the sound also. If you're not handy like that, I would go with the 6 qt. Presto, nice simple design, and that comforting sound heralding a good meal. "Nice", The pressure maintains nicely without the old "jiggler". I wish it would have come with a rack and steamer unit. "NOT YOUR GRANDMOTHER'S PRESSURE COOKER", Though I am a pretty basic cook (I can boil water; scrambled eggs are my specialty), the fear that many people have of pressure cookers should be laid to rest with this Fagor. Once you get the hang of it, cooking is as simple as putting all in the pot, closing it, making sure the dial is pointed to "cook" and the lid snap is closed, putting it on the heat and wait for the little yellow bobbie thing to pop up so you can turn down the heat and start your timer. If there's too much steam this mighty device releases it safely. Even I can do it! Some foods are easier than others, but if you want to create a quick, healthy chicken soup, this is your weapon! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Save on cooking time", This thing is great. It works just like the description says. I've had it for over a year. The only compain that I have is the screws for the handle would get loose over time. But all you have to do is tighten it. "A happy man.", Very happy with this cooker. No scary story, only happy ones. Stainless steel is thin, light and yet strong, much better than expected. You won't regret spending extra $$ on this brand. "Very reliable, well made", I have used my new pressure cooker three times. I have cooked pinto beans each time as we make homemade refried beans on a regular basis. I start with fresh beans with salted water and we have fully cooked beans in a little over an hour. The cooker itself works really well and the 6 quart size is just right for our family of 4. It is very easy to use and clean, too! The only downfall is that it isn't as quiet as I would have liked it to be, but it is quieter than the one I had before, which was 11 years old. It's a great product for the price, and if you don't want to spend $200 on the top of the line, this one is a close second place. "Easy to use, not scary, time-saver!", This product is very well-constructed. It is simple to use and easy to clean. I use it to cook brown rice and dry beans, and it has cut my cooking time down immeasurably. I have only had it a few months so far, and I have not been able to perfect the rice (there always seems to be too much water left at the end), but I will keep reducing the amount of water until I have the perfect mix. I would highly recommend this pressure cooker to anyone, beginning cooks or seasoned culinary experts. I'll certainly be sending one down to South Carolina for mothers day. "Easy to use, no complaints", I had not been around a pressure cooker since I was a kid and they always made me nervous. This cooker (and I'm sure most of the new ones) is easy to use and there's no worry. If you like risotto, it's the only way to go - no stirring and very creamy. The instructions are straight forward. I didn't like their recipe book but once you get the hang of it, you can adapt your own recipes. It is quite a time saver. Also, this is a perfect size for a good size pot of soup, vegetables, chicken, pork roast, etc. ![]() |
