"Braun used to make high quality coffeemakers . . ."
We replaced an older Braun coffeemaker that we had like very much--and had for about 10 years--with this piece of junk. It's flimsy. The basket sometimes cannot be opened to add coffee! You have to used a knife or other tool to pry it open, if you can believe that.

The basket itself sometimes falls off because it's poorly attached by tiny little plastic "knobs" that can barely hold onto the coffeemaker.

The filter Braun provided does not fit into the coffeemaker. So, I ordered a second one -- gold -- and it also does not fit. If you wiggle it and jam it in forcefully you can just barely get it to seat inside the plastic funnel, but just barely. Something is not right here.

Braun used to make high-quality German-made small appliances. This product is absolute junk, however. And it leaks. And it glass carafe is poorly made. The lid falls off repeatedly even though it's designed to snap on tightly--but it doesn't hold.

The carafe glass is very thin, very delicate, almost like a wine glass and seems very likely to break. And, unlike other coffeemakers we have owned, the carafe is completely loose on the burner, not even appearing to exactly fit the size of the burner. If you should happen to try to pick up the coffeemaker with the carafe on it, well look out! The carafe will fall off. On other coffeemakers, the carafe sometimes snaps into the unit to prevent it from falling off as you carry it.

And, as for the coffee it makes, it is mediocre at best -- and barely warm. On our previous Braun, the coffee was nice and hot. This produces coffee that is barely warm so, if you can believe this, we actually have to take our cup of fresh coffee and put it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds to make it hot. Unbelievable. Probably their response to lawsuit anxieties.

I will simply avoid Braun small appliances as their quality just is not their and their design standards have virtually disappeared. We are simply going to put this thing into the garbage can. I don't even want to give it away since whoever ended up with it would have a dangerous glass carafe that would sooner or later fall off and an appliance that was difficult to open which made bad coffee. Every expectation you look for in a coffeemaker, this Braun falls well short of meeting.

"Great Coffee Maker"
This is my second Braun coffee maker. I've been drinking coffee for over 50 years, and this is, without a doubt, one of the best coffee makers on the market. To add to it's superiority, a Brita water filter system is included. The only drawback with this particular model is when you make the maximum 10 cups, there is no way you can pour the first cup without the coffee dripping on the counter - the carafe design needs improvement.

"great little machine"
I have been using this coffee maker every day for about three years, and it is great. I have not had any problems with it at all, and it makes a very good cup of cofee. It is very reliable...the timer has always worked perfectly so I have fresh coffee ready and waiting each morning. The fine mesh filter basket is easy to clean, and saves money since I don't have to buy those paper coffee filters. I highly recommend it.

"Not Quite a 5-star Product"
Have owned 2 KF580's. This will likely be the last one. Even though it is reliable in terms of making good coffee, it has some of the same shortcomings as the less expensive pots. Carafe drips (spills) coffee if not poured at the right angle and volume; smaller capacity at 10 cups (we prefer 12); when you fill the water tank to capacity, you only get 8.5 to 9 cups of coffee; no allowanc for water absorption by coffee grounds; is rather diminutive and cheap looking for a [...] coffee pot.

Next time will likely find a more robust & economical 12-cup unit that doesn't cost so much just to buy the name. We prefer the cone type filtration in the Braun (conducts the water downward in a way to capture more of the coffe flavor) which limits our selection. But I've found other cone systems for a fourth to half the price (i.e. Kenmore, Black & Decker, etc) which also have auto timers. So, Mr Braun, its been good to know ya, but we'll pass next time. (P.S., wife & I are coffee hounds, grind our own Starbucks etc, so we've tried em all - Cuisinart, Kitchenaid, Mr. Coffee, DeLonghi, Krups). None of them last over 6 months even with regular cleaning and care. Something always conks just when we need some coffee & we're off to the Department store. So....Hello Sears & Walmart.

"Braun KF580"
This was a gift for my mother for Christmas, and she loves it alot, it saves alot of space which is great for her. And so easy to use, she loves it! She was not expecting me to get her a Braun, but she really does think alot of it!

What our customer's say!

"Great coffee maker", The Braun KF580 works great for me. I use it about once a week. The pot fills fairly quickly and hot. The filter is fine but there is nothing really bad about our tap water. The controls are intuitive and easy to see. When the pot if full (water or coffee) pouring without a little dribble is challenging. Filling the tank, I first thought was that it was leaking until I started paying attention. I also prefer paper filter to the gold - less acid taste in the coffee. I'm happy with it and would recommend it.

"Awesome coffee maker", This is my second purchase of this item. My original purchase lasted me over five years and was still working well. I bought a new one just like it because I didn't clean the original one often enough and the water holder was getting quite dirty. You don't have to worry about buying filters for it, it comes with one to use each time with just a good washing, and it gives me a really good cup of coffee. Im hoping to have this one as long as I had the original one. This second one is a duplicate of the first and I felt lucky when I found it again to purchase.

"My favorite one so far", I've tried and returned a bunch of coffee makers over the years. I love this machine. Our old basic Braun met its demise after several years of faithful service. My wife found this on sale. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of white. I've had other white coffee makers before, and the carafe lid stains within days. Not so with this one. It still looks great after a few months. It makes very good coffee. The brew time is much faster than the Mr. Coffee we tried for one day. The coffee comes out hotter than the previous machine. Auto timer is nice. Easy to fill tank. Number of cups marks on the side match the pot perfectly. The mesh filter basket works well. Sometimes it drips just a bit when I first remove the carafe after brewing. This apparently upsets me far less than some other reviewers. I'd buy another one in a minute.

"COFFEE MAKER", COFFEE MAKER WORKS FINE!COFFEE POT DRIPS WHEN POURING!THEY NEED TO IMPROVE THE COFFEE POT DESIGN!

"Typically good Braun coffee maker - Four and a half stars", I bought this coffee maker to replace a Braun KF180 (given to my daughter) that replaced a KF187. (The KF187 was the best coffee maker I ever owned, so I doubt if anything else will ever earn 5 stars.) I have had the KF580 for about a month and have been very pleased with it. I would rate it four-and-a-half stars, but that option is not available.

Pros:
-I like that the filter basket latches (seemed that on the KF180 and KF187 the basket occasionally would not seat properly).
-The carafe seems more sturdy than the one from the KF180/187. More comfortable handle. I was making 10-cup pots with the KF180, so I find the 10-cup carafe works just fine for my needs. I get a full 10 cups per pot when I fill the water reservoir. (My experience, obviously, differs from that of some other reviewers.) The carafe was a little persnickety at first, but I have learned how to pour it so I no longer have problems with drips.
-The coffee is HOT. Seems much hotter than with my previous Braun machines.
-I prefer cone filters to basket-style, so this is a good feature for me.
-The style of the coffee maker is attractive.
-I have always liked the replaceable water filters. They are pricey, but I can get at least three months out of one and I believe they do make for a better tasting cup of coffee.
-Cord storage was an unexpected feature that is very nice. Being able to put extra cord into the body of the coffee maker is very handy and keeps the counter less cluttered.

Cons:
-I miss the FlavorAdjust feature. I could never figure out how it worked, but this coffee maker seems to need a bit more coffee to make the same strength pot as the KF180.
-The water indicator is a bit harder to read on this coffee maker vs. the KF180. It is easy to get used to, but I (and my aging eyes) prefer the older style with floating indicator.
-The angle of the clock and lights on the base require you to be closer to the coffee maker to see the time, or if the indicators are on or not.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I have had very good luck with Braun. Certainly one's feelings about coffee makers, like many things, are influenced by personal preference and some features are more important to some people than others. This one works very well for my one-pot-a-day, two-pots-on-weekends needs.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"LehmanDE", I've had this coffeemaker about three weeks now. It's solidly built (as coffeemakers go) and makes great tasting coffee. When the carafe is full, care must be taken when pouring or coffee will spill, but I still give this unit 5 stars...as good as my last Braun.

"Bad Design", This product is almost unbelievably poorly designed and engineered. The carafe drips. The unit that produces the coffee above the carafe drips. The water level indicator is a shade of blue such that you can't see the water level. The plastic piece on top of the carafe doesn't snap in securely. Even the piece you open to pour in the water is not designed to be easily accessed and opened. And the little indicator to calendar when to change the water filter is hard to manipulate. It is truly unbelievable that a company that has made coffee makers for years has done such a poor job or design and engineering.

"A happily converted former Bunn user...", When I married my wife she had a Braun and I had the Bunn. I was a smoker, and upon awaking I wanted a whole pot of coffee FAST for my Manhattan breakfast (coffee and cigarettes). My wife insisted the Braun brewed better coffee but I strongarmed her and the Bunn won the counter space. Two years later, I tucked my tail and bought a Braun KF580. I quit smoking a year ago and can taste now, and I had to admit the three minute Bunn makes a watery brew.

The Braun? Awesome! The 580 brews 8 cups in 7 minutes, a lot faster than the older model we had. Quite acceptable. It does brew hot, and this is important since perfect extraction takes place at 180 to 190 degrees. The pause and serve works well, the carafe does not leak if poured at the right rate (too fast and it will drip a bit), and the cone style filter is optimal for taste extraction from the grounds. It has proven reliable and consistent, and I use the same amount of coffee I would in any other brewer. I like strong coffee, and the Braun delivers!

The gold filter will let some dust through, but they all do. Use a paper filter if you have a problem with that. The water filter does help. If it is too expensive just use filtered water. The Braun functions without the Brita filter. It is sleek, stylish, and meets all my needs perfectly! Thanks Braun!!! Anyone want to buy a gently used Bunn? Email me!

"excellent coffee maker", I bought one of these, based on the postive reviews here, for my wife after she complained about the relatively new Mr. Coffee leaking and dripping. She says (I'm not a coffee driner myself) this is the best coffee maker she's ever had. It doesn't leak or drip. It makes excellent tasting coffee. The no-drip feature that allows you to remove the carafe while the coffee is still brewing really works! Also, the non-slip handle on the carafe is really nice and helps you keep a firm grip on the pot. Last, but not least, the compact size fits nicely on the counter, under cupboards, etc.

After owning many Mr. Coffee and similar coffee makers over the years, this one is by far the best.

"Good cup of coffee", Didn't like gold filter. Started using Melitta paper filters. Makes a good cup of coffee.
