"Steamer broke after 2 months, but it can be fixed"
I see many people had problems with their steamer going crazy like I did. I called customer service but didn't want to send it in. I unscrewed the machine and took the top off. When you get the top off you'll see the tube going to the steaming pipe is no longer connected. Reconnect it with the clamp. It's been working great ever since I fixed it. Easy repair in my opinion - I think the tube just wasn't fastened down properly in production. Or did they mean for that? I wish the machine had a double shot tray - the single shot tray is a pain.

"Only lasted for 5 months"
I had my first machine for 5 months - a gift from a friend. When it started to let steam out all over the place, I went out and bought another one. I thought I was just unlucky with the first one. It also only lasted 5 months like the first one. I cleaned it - vinegar etc... like the instructions said - no luck. Steam came from everywhere. It would not warm the milk anymore. I took it back. Never again.

"do not buy"
do not buy this. the steamer stops working in a month and it cannot be fixed. cleaning doesn't help at all, even after carefully following the instructions. very cheap, no good.

"Don't Buy! Cheap does not pay!"
First of all I would give it zero stars if possible. This is the worst thing we have ever bought. Our first cup was fine. It started leaking right after that. Now it won't even brew the expresso. It is leaking down the sides. Spend the money on a good machine. And yes we got two sets of expresso grounded very fine at Starbucks and it still does not work.

"The only thing getting steamed was me"
There is a clear echo here, so to simply quote the experience of another reviewer, "after two months the steamer ceased to function properly and steam came out of the espresso head instead."

Rather than paying to ship the unit to Krups myself---clearly, the company cannot afford to pay shipping on the thousands of these cheaply made units---I hauled the Krups FNP112-42 down to my workshop and found that the hose to the steamer had detached.

Well, fixing that problem did not render the FNP112-42 usable, for now it simply exhaled steam in great plumes like a bull in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Cleaning the unit per the directions from Krups did nothing whatsoever. Nor did shaking it robustly or inserting various instruments into the nonworking nozzles serve any purpose, but at least I felt a bit better.

Turns out the only thing getting steamed was me. . .

I'm going to buy a good espresso maker this year for Christmas and I can promise you that it will not have the word Krups emblazoned on it.

What our customer's say!

"Exactly what do you expect for $75.00??", There is a certain minimum dollar point below which you will get something that is TOTALLY INCAPABLE of doing the job.

this krups is one example.

To make anything approaching a real espresso, you need to spend about $200.00. and to make it properly, you need to spend about $300.00 for an ESPRESSO grinder.

otherwise, just get some pod machine and pretend.

"Krups FNP112 Espresso Machine", It's simple to use and makes an excellent cup of espresso. I don't use the cappuccino feature so I can't rate that.

"Delicious but not long lasting", This machine surprisingly (for such a small, inexpensive machine) makes a delicious espresso or latte (using Starbucks pre-made pods yields the best results). However, after very little use, the machine is leaking water from the base. The problem seems to be in the plastic molding of the water resevoir but I'm not sure. It's disappointing that this machine is not long lasting. We do have a Cafe Roma by De Longhi, and the gasket on that is experiencing troubles but that company is doing a complete replacement of our product.

"If you'd like a big bang for your buck, this is a nuke.", After 3 -1/2 years of pulling 4 to 8 shots of expresso per day, and steaming hundreds of gallons of delicious foamy milk, this little steam toy still works like new. Better than new, actually, because it has a better operator. Good results require a bit of experimentation with the variables of different grinds and quantities of coffee and durations of extraction. I've come home many times to discover that I'd left the electric switch on all day, but not to fear, the thing doesn't burn up, so far. On other occasions, I've overloaded the pump by letting the reservoir run dry and then adding water to try to resume extraction through a filter that had become clogged from the interruption of the flow of water. The pump keeps going even with the output blocked down to a trickle. This will happen to you from time to time because you will neglect to refill the reservoir. When it happens, just start over with dry coffee. You will also need to buy a small diameter tamper - mine is 49mm.

The expresso liquor always has crema and never tastes sour to me, even when using cheap brands of dark roast like Eight O Clock and Community Coffee. Everything I've said about the brilliance of this machine is contingent, howver, on the coffee grinder. Without a good grinder, you might as well just make drip coffee. The secret good expresso, in my experience, is 25% expresso machine and 75% grinder. A good grinder is the Gaggia, which I bought from amazon for $175 with a discount, or the Rancillio Rocky, which I would have gotten in the first place had I understood the importance of an excellent grinder.

This machine is small and light enough to take with you to the motel when you're on a road trip, and cheap enough to leave behind if you forget to put it in your car the next morning. My next expresso machine will be much more expensive, but not because I'm trying to obtain a higher quality brew. My only reasons for paying more are to get double shots and the solenoid valve, which will eliminate the spills of hot soupy grounds when emptying the porta-filter. Also, when you get familiar with the operation of a machine, you'd like it to last so you don't have to learn a new set of techniques.

"Great machine for the price", I bought this machine 2 years ago with the thought in mind that even if it worked for a while, we could see how much we would actually use an espresso machine and still not have to spend a lot of money. I worked in a coffee shop and was used to all the perks of a larger machine, but for "at home" use, this machine is great. It doesn't make double shots and you can't steam while making the shot or adjust the steam, but for the price, it's been well worth the money. We have used it at least once a week, more often 2 to 3 times a week for 2 years (making 2 to 4 drinks during each session). Just recently I did experience the same problem as described by others where the frother no longer works. I opened the machine up (only one screw on top under lid where you insert water resevoir) and sure enough the hose had come off. Replaced it and it's working again. Just some pointers, I do think it's very important to have the proper grind of coffee (I grind my own). Also important is a proper tamp and no coffee at all around the edge of the filter for a good seal. I even get a great crema. Cleaning of the machine is also important. I clean mine with a good wipe down of the nozzle and filter head after each session used and once in a while with a descaler, running it through the frother, as well as the filter.

Maybe I just got lucky with this machine, but we have really enjoyed it and even if it quit working tomorrow, we've still gotten more than our money's worth.

"Poor quality for the price", This was my second cappuccino maker, and after 1 use I am returning it. It feels really cheaply-built. The knob to turn it from espresso to steam feels like it will break very soon. It only makes 1 cup at a time, and doesn't get the milk very frothy like my last one did. I got it on sale, but it still wasn't worth $69. I'll spend more if I can find one that doesn't feel like it was built by a kid.

"it makes espresso fast", I makes espresso, etc. fast but there's no option for lots of foam and it only makes two cups at a whack. Serves us well but not as well as our previous version of Krups (higher end).

"Awful", As a Starbucks employee of almost 2 years at my college... I know how to brew espresso and properly make drinks. My roommates got this for me as a Christmas present at the Field Days Sale so I could make coffee drinks for all of our late night study sessions. After about 2 months of use... the steamer ceased to function properly and steam came out of the espresso head instead. I contacted a service advisor at Krups' website and it turns out that I would have to ship the machine to the nearest service center in Illinois on my own dime. No thank you! I'll find something better.

"Not Krups Best", Let me first state that I think Krups has the best frothing machines around.

I have had a Krups Il Primo for almost 11 years and used it nearly daily for about 8 of those. It still works great although a seal seems to be getting weak.

I purchased an Caffe Duomo about six years ago and used it in conjunction with my original. It works ok, doesn't make the greatest drip pot of coffee and, after daily use of about four years, has the seal already leaking.

It doesn't have a switch between the espresso-making and frothing parts so caused quite a few messes. One friend never did figure out how to use her without mopping the kitchen.

Also, after about a year, I could no longer find another pitcher or parts locally for it. Everything has to be ordered from somewhere.

Two weeks ago I purchased this new machine on a great mark-down price. ($39.99)

It's the worst yet. Making only one cup at a time, water often remains sitting on top of the grounds, and the espresso is very weak. I'm very disappointed in the performance. I do give it one star as it does manage to drop some caffeine in the cup to get me going at 0400, but definately lacks the rich, wonderful flavor of my first machine.

"waste of money", I owned previously 2 Krups espresso machines. One was Gusto, the other something similar, both in the $100 class. They both performed pretty well when new but degraded (leaking and other problems) fairly quickly. I decided to give a try to Espremio because I thought Krups being relative newcomer to espresso business is gradualyy becoming more experienced and might eventually just get it right with its later models. Well, the Esprenio model is actually worse than Krups older ones. The espresso it makes is lousy when its brand new. Also, you cannot make a double espresso, or cappucino because only the single shot filter basket is included. The double shot basket is not even offered as an optional accessory. Not really surprising considering the espremio pump can barely pump thru a single shot of coffee grounds. If Krups (or for that matter, any anufacurerer) cannot make a decent apliance costing around 100 bucks they shouldn't make it all rather then manufacture junk.

After having a similar experience with deLonghi, (see my review) I am coming to the conclusion that currently there are just no espresso machines in the $100 range on the market that are worth mine (or your) money.
