"A cleaning dynamo for less than $100"
So,as I was vacuuming the hard floors in the house, I was thinking, "I love this vacuum so darn much I should tell other people how good it is!"

Bought the cleaner at Sam's for about $99. I used the reviews from this site to make my choice. I'd used reviews from Consumers Report to purchase my last cleaner, a Sharp which turned out to be an absolute bust. I cancelled my subscription to Consumers Report because I was so mad that they had recommended such a dud.

The 1998 model Sharp replaced a Kirby purchased in 1957! Can't complain about that Kirby but much better vacuums are available now and they are much cheaper.

Just think for $99 you can get a cleaning dynamo! It does a good-not great-job on edges and even picks up popcorn kernels off ceramic tile floors instead of spinning them around and spitting them across lthe room.

It works great on bare surfaces. It pulls the dirt right out of carpet. It doesn't tip over on you when you use the hose. (I've taken the vacuum to the local vacuum parts and repair shop to have them make a 12 foot hose attachment. Now I can clean above the soffits, the top of doors and drapes..........

The only small complaint I have is that the cleaning ability is so good that the HEPA filter gets clogged rather easily. I am using an air compressor to blow the filter clean. I'm going to purchase another filter and get both of them clogged before I have to start up the air compressor to clean them out.

Oh, I do have another caveat. The weight of the vacuum appears to be greater in the upper part of the vacuum than in some of the other vacuums. It does take more effort and is more tiring than some other vacuums I've used.

The bottom line, however, with the price and the ability to clean hard and carpeted surfacesis it still rates as a FIVE STAR in my opinion.

"This is a great vacuum!"
I was a little hesitant about buying an appliance through the internet but I'm pleasantly surprised and happy! After reading all the other reviews and getting their promo for a $20.00 Amazon gift certificate I decided to buy it. It is great! I can't believe how much better this vacuum is then the old Dirt Devil I was using. This one has great cleaning power, easy to maneuver, fairly quiet and great fun! Yes, fun cleaning the floor! My only complaint is the difficulty in putting the screws in to attach the handle. This really is a great deal!

"Washable Filters *are* available for this vacuum!"
You can get a washable HEPA filter for any 5700 or 5800 series Eureka vacuum from the Eureka web site! I'm SOLD!

"A Great Vacuum, I'm glad I did my research"
Amazon.com was enormously helpful in researching vacuums. We landed on this vacuum which we finally bought from Costco for pricing reasons. This vacuum is a great deal. It's quieter than out last Hoover, it's powerful, and it's easy to clean.

I just cleaned ours, we have had it for about a year, and cleaned it about 3 or 4 times. We use it EVERY day and have a 1 year old, who is sleeping on our carpet in the living room right now. She never has had a problem from vacuum dust either. Normally all I have to do is empty the can when it gets a little full. Cleaning can be a little labor intensive, but it's all pretty easy. 1 screw and I can have the hose off, the rest of the filters are easy to get to. This vacuum has never left a real alergy problem with us. We never sneeze using it. It will eventually get a vacuum smell as you use it, but if you keep it clean that is minimized.

After researching different options, this is what I found.
Baglass vs Bag Vaccums: Some people like bagless, some like bag. It's really a personal preference issue. I like being able to see what is in the can.
Drive systems: Beware of the Hoover. It uses a plastic geared brush drive mechanism which the salesman at Sears told me has been a real weak spot. The Eureka has a Belt driven brush, which is reliable.
Hepa filter vs Micron Filtration: Hepa filters can filter out particles below .3 Microns. This means your vacuum will filter out smoke as well as other things. Some vacuums claim to have 'Micron' filtration, which filters between 5 Microns and .3 Microns, but it's not Hepa.
Sealed Hepa Filtration systems: The Eureka has a sealed Hepa system, meaning no air gets out past the filter. This includes motor exhaust. This is the only real way to run a filter system. If it's not sealed, it's not doin' much.
Changing HEPA Filters: Do the 'light test'. Hold the filter up to a light. If you can still see light filtering through your filter, it's still good. But DON'T LET YOUR HEPA FILTER GET CLOGGED. It can fry your motor. The Eureka has a very easy to access Hepa filter, so you don't have to dismantle the vacuum to check it.
The hose is a nice addition. My Vacuum did not come with the duster, and I think that would be a nice addition.

Overall, I am glad I did my research and I'm gald I bought this vaccum. Thanks Amazon for posting customer reviews.

"Good product for the money"
What is it about buying a vacuum? It's like buying a car, all the research! And I did all that reaserch for the amount of money you drop in one trip to the grocery store! Whew! Yes, I used Amazon to do my research and went with this vacuum due to the ratings. I wanted a bagless and didnt want to spend a ton a money, since the last vacuum we bought was an Oreck. Im giving this 4 stars only because of its weight and the fact that I cant do my stairs with it. Im spoiled on the lightweight Oreck. But every bagless I found weighed a ton so I knew that this was something I was just going to have to live with if I wanted a bagless. And I love the bagless feature. Easy to use and the suction is incredible. I was horrified to see what came out of my carpet the first 2 uses. We are extremely dusty here living in the desert so I was happy to see that its powerful. The hose attachment is very awkward to use. Too inflexible and not long enough, I think. But Im getting use to it. The spin duster is a nice extra feature. We have had this vacuum 2 months now and I can honestly say that for the money ($99 at Sams Club, and I price shopped EVERYWHERE, no new ones available on Amazon) it is worth every penny.

What our customer's say!

"Unavailability of parts", I have been to Walmart, 2 Targets, Sears and KMart and not one of them had the part(belt) I needed for replacement. I called 3 Eureka service centers out of which one said they did not sell parts, another said they were only commercial, and the third place did not have it in stock. I finally called the fourth dealer, who says he has it ( I have yet to go pick it up). But I am extremely disappointed by how difficult it has been just to purchase a 3 dollar belt!! I must have driven at least 30 -40 miles in search of it and have yet to drive another 20 miles in order to get the belt. This has been extremely frustrating.. and I would definitely never purchase a Eureka product again. I have a nine month old son, and it is not feasible for me to be without a vacuum cleaner and I just cannot spend 3 days searching for a Eureka belt like I have been doing. I am really regretting my decision to purchase a Eureka for fear that the next time I have a problem, I will have to run all around to search for a part.

"Unbelievable suction!!", I thought I maintained a clean house until I vacuumed with this machine! I can not believe just how much gunk this thing picked up. It is unbelievable! The power of this vacuum outweighs some of the negatives like the weight (its a bit heavy), it could use a longer hose and the small vacuum attachment doesn't lay flat when using it under cramped spaces (like under the bed). I find it takes a little longer to vacuum but it really cleans well. The canister is easy to remove & the filter is easy to clean. I've found that tapping the internal filter against the side of the trashcan helps to loosen the dirt.

"Pretty good vacuum cleaner--", After quite a bit of research in the upright vacuum category, I chose the 5843AZ. I have used an Oreck for the last 18 years, and decided to go bagless. It cleaned up a storm (I have area rugs with fringe and Pergo in between.) It did floors with minimal throw of tiny bits of sand and did not eat the fringe on the rugs (would pull the edge up, but let go as soon as I pushed away.) I had no trouble with the foot release (guess Eureka fixed that) but found it annoying to have to press the release twice to get the vacuum to go flat under furniture. Every time I pulled back, I had to reach under and press the release again. I also did not undo all the 30-ft cord from around the holders, so when I laid it flat to go under the table, the wad of cord fell down and I ran over it while pulling the vac back to press the release. It chewed a hole in the cord's plastic covering before I realized it, and had to wrap it with electric tape. So my big warning would be to NEVER run over the cord with the vacuum cleaner. But the lever to change the cleaner height is easy to move with your foot, and the hose is pretty cool. I am still getting used to using the tools; I particularly like the duster and its holder--sucks the dust off with a cool lever. I had no trouble dumping the cup of dirt, and took a while to brush the dust off the internal filter (my house was Very Dusty.) I don't think it's too heavy, and it's nice to have the tools there with the cleaner. I don't see a place to park the turbo brush that comes with it yet, and I also received an extra belt in the packaging.

"Even Better Than Expected", I read the reviews on this vacuum and decided to buy, hoping that it lived up to the hype. Well, it performs even better than expected. I "vacuumed" my living room with my old Dirt Devil just before giving the Eureka a try. I thought the carpet was pretty clean after the Dirt Devil, but the Eureka dust cup was about almost half full after just one room!!! It picked up all kinds of cat hair (we have a long-haired Persian) that the Dirt Devil missed. In a word, this machine is UNBELIEVABLE.

"Great Vacuum", I love this vacuum cleaner. I would like it better, I think, if the attachment hose was a little longer, but that's my only complaint. It cleans like no other vacuum I've ever tried. And the spin duster is a special little added gem that is just the icing on the cake.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"AWESOME for pet lovers", i read the reviews and based on how well everyone said it worked on pet hair-i had to see for myself! that and the duster and hepa filter sold me!

received today and i have tried everything out at least once.the power is amazing!it picks up things you didn't even know were there! including stubborn cat hair and litter!!

the best vacuum for me by far! and it is a lot quieter than my old one!

this is a definate 5 star item in all ways!!!

"Mother to two shedding kittens", Okay, they are full-grown cats and they shed, a lot. This vacuum does an unbelievable job of getting ALL of the hair up on the first try. With my old vacuum, I had to pass over the same spot time and again -- even then, the result was less than perfect. Better still is the ease with which the waste canister can be emptied. No more struggline with dusty bags! This is a great machine at a terrific price!

"LOVE IT !!!!!!!", This a great vacume! cleans floors wonderfully.. I vacume every day and I couldn`t believe what it got out of my carpet. my other vacume was not even coming close to cleaning like this.
If your in the market for a new vacume, this is a great one! As is the price!!

"Lives up to the Positive Reviews!", This vacuum is awesome! Great suction, very quiet (especially compared to our old horrible hoover), easy to push (almost feels self-propelled) and leaves the carpet feeling soft and looking new and smelling fresh. I would definately recommend this to everyone looking for a great vacuum for a good deal! We love it! It even sucked up dirt that our neighbors Rainbow vacuum didn't pick up and we thought the carpet was clean after we used the Rainbow! Get it! :)

"5843AZ", This vacuum has great suction, but is ugly! The colors are just too odd. I was happy the first time I used the vacuum, but the second time, the attachment for stairs stopped rotating and no longer works. The spin duster works in principal but the collar on the duster that locks it in gets in the way when you dust.

Over all, I wish I had tried this vacuum in the store, I probably would not have purchased it.
