Others say...

"Bait and Switch"
I've had my Romba Discovery for about a year, and its worked pretty well. Now the battery is dead, and Irobot won't replace it. They say the batteries are on back order, but offer a discount for a trade in. It's been 2 months since I ordered the battery and Irobot can't tell me when I can get this replacement part, but they can offer a good deal on a new unit. THIS IS CLEARLY A BAIT AND SWITCH AS WELL AS A DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICE. THIS UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR MEANS I WILL NEVER DO BUSISNESS WITH THIS COMPANY AND I ADVISE EVERYONE TO AVOID I-ROBOT.

DO NOT BUT THIS PRODUCT.

"Engineered to need periodic factory repair?"
The Roomba is a great floor sweep and outstanding robotics. However. when caught on tassels of rugs, builds up stress in the gear box that drives the brush and cracks the gear box cover. This plastic cover is unncessarily precut at three places full-length across the plate and each connected only by one flimsy plastic edge. One cut in particular crosses a screw-hole so that overtightening of the screw at the factory assures that the plate will crack with use. The company does not sell this piece of plastic and insists on factory repair. There is no apparent reason for the gear box cover to be precut except to get the Roomba back to factory periodically if they want it to.

"GREAT vaccuum, AWFUL customer service"
Roombas are brilliant, but iRobot's customer service is astoundingly bad in my experience. They took 2 months to ship most of my order, which was not listed as out of stock (but secretly was), then shipped it to the wrong address, incomplete. Once all these issues were solved, they shipped the last parts, again to the wrong address. Phone service that followed this was downright rude. If I were buying one again (and I might), I'd buy through a 3rd party, not directly from iRobot.

"Never Knew I needed this thing!"
When my husband bought me this item I can't say I was overjoyed. I was thinking how he bought it because it looked like a remote control car for him to play with! It took me a few times to really appreciate this baby.

How I use it:

I first lift the few throw rugs up off the floor, and then tuck the ends of the bigger rugs under so the Roomba doesn't drive up the rug. I turn on the Roomba and go upstairs. I found that I didn't have much sweeping on my own after the machine completed it's cycle. It was like having a "helper". My husband found this model on sale at a B&M store, so bought me 2 more. I now have 3 running at once, and have found the machines clean every square inch of the downstairs.

The machine is pretty heavy duty as well. My 3 year old will sit on the thing while it's running or place cups or other items on it to humor himself.

The only complaint I had was the battery life. The standard batteries that came with this model would not hold a charge after a while. We bought the new batteries for the units at Fry's for $49.99 each, and that fixed the problem.

What will they think of next??? Oh Yeah, the Scooba!

"Over-rated, Only Good for Minimal Furnished Bare Floor Apartment, Poor Customer Service"
As a consumer who does hours of research and reading reviews of everything I buy,(and don't mind spending money on appliances that are worth it's quality), this was my worst purchase so far.

If you're thinking that this high tech "vacuum" will leave you with cleaner floors and giving you more free time, then you'll be disappointed. That was my goal when I purchased this.

My house has your average low pile carpet, hardwood floors, regular height furniture (eg. sofa, coffee table, bed etc). I've found that the roomba gets "stuck" a lot, for one reason or another, the machine stops working after a while and you'll have to turn it back on. I've followed it as it cleans, and just can't seem to understand why it would stop all of a sudden, sometimes it stops as it's caught between the front bottom edge of the sofa and the floor, othertimes, it's caught between the legs of tables and chairs.

I've placed several strands of hair, rice, paperclips etc. on my floor, and the vacuum didn't pick any of that after the entire cleaning of my room. The vacuum is only good for bare floors (it should really be called a "broom") since it seems to not pick up anything on carpet, it does a little better on floors since the roomba's tiny brushes can push the dirt easier, less resistance than on carpet. Like any vacuum you'll need to move the furniture so that it's out of the way. But when I vacuum, I just move my furniture a few feet at the most, but with this machine and its "programmed" path of vacuuming, you'll have to essentially move everything out of the room that might trap this gadget since you won't know where it'll be heading and you're suppose to be able to "leave" the room.

After a few months of not using it, I've only used it a couple of times, I decided to give the machine another try, and of course, the tire tread on the machine fell off. It was made of rubber and like rubber band, this material gets brittle and hardens over time, so naturally, the tire tread broke off of my machine.

I called the company, and what do you know, their first option on thir customer service line was for the broken tire tread, that they'll replace it "free of charge". These machines should have been recalled (I'm not aware that they are anyways.). I waited 6 weeks, still no replacement.

Called back today, kept getting placed on hold and being transferred, finally talked to someone. They then asked for my serial number. Why didn't they ask for that the first time? Very disappointed with the quality and service of this whole machine.

My advice, if you want to try this technology, make sure you buy it at a place where you can return it if it doesn't work out for you.

What our customer's say!

"A Converted Roomba User!!! LOVE IT!", I made fun of a friend who had one until he turned it on and off it went to clean his outdated sculpted shag carpeting from the 60's or 70's
It doesn't work really well on carpeting, at least mine doesn't but it not a problem because I have wood floors.
My kids would come over and make fun of all the dust bunnies flying around because I have an active dog. Now they are amazed at how clean and shiny the floors are! Mine doesn't have the liquid but it does seem to put a shine on the floor.
I run mine every day in the kitchen and dining room.
Do beware of it getting suck on something although mine will back up and go forward until it gets away from the object.
Now the down side. You really have to be careful to clean out the dust bin often, especially if you haven't run it for a few days. That is why I tried to make it a daily ritual. Next is the noise, the only person in the house that likes the noise is the parakeet. I just go upstairs and can still hear it especially if it gets stuck.
All in all it is a wonderful tech toy!
If you grandchildren come over hand them the remote control and they love running it around the dining table.
Enjoy! iRobot 560 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, Black and Silver

"Was Very Skeptical But Ended Up Amazed!", I am a clean freak! I own a Rainbow Vacuum Cleaning System, but with a bad back I had to find another way to maintain my floors.

I fought my husband's suggestion to by a "Roomba" robotic vacuum for months. However, after my second "in-hospital lower back pain shots" within six months, I knew I would have to concede.

Hello? How did I ever get along without ROOMBA? All you have to do is empty the dust bin after "Robbie" works non-stop for about an hour and the proof is there! He can CLEAN!!

I learned quickly that some decluttering of the room is wise so he doesn't get tangled up in things like dining room chairs and electrical cords.

I have the Discovery Model and he returns to his charging base, plugs himself in to recharge and plays a cute tune to announce he is finished.

As far as price...well, hire a cleaning person for a couple of months, or buy a ROOMBA and it will very quickly pay for itself. New filters, brushes and other replacement parts are moderately priced so I can keep my ROOMBA in top condition.

Will I ever be without one? Not on your life! I'd give him 10 stars, if I could.

"Roomba -- you'll love it, AT FIRST, BUT THEN ...", This could be, perhaps, the best, most time-saving item on the market today, if it weren't for all its problems. It's such a great time- and back-saver that I now own three different models, none of which currently works (which is per usual). I have bought new batteries, charges, machines, wheels, software, some of which more than once. It's so good that, when a new model would come out, I would buy it hoping that it would have less problems than the previous version (e.g., if you're an old-time customer, you'll remember the old batteries and how they ruined the old charges, which seems to be corrected only slightly in the newer models.). I love the idea of this machine, BUT I'M DONE WITH ROOMBA. Certainly, at the very least, customer service should be improved. SORRY, IROBOT -- BUT KEEP TRYING; THE IDEA IS WORTH IT!

For those giving these items five stars, they are probably new owners of roombas. Let's see if those ratings would hold up after a year from now or after having spent a great deal of time trying to get them to run like they did when they were first purchased. To make matters worse, I recommended roomba to sooo many people, who are now in the same boat as I am. Save your sanity; do it the old-fashioned way, at least for the near (I hope) future.

"excellent product", It is very useful tool for us.
Works great and after service is very good also.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Unit is OK, but needs improvement.", Roomba does passable cleaning job, when one prepares the area first by removing obstacles. Battery is worn out after only several months use. In my opinion, this item should have been priced lower, or improved before release. Now I must decide whether to replace the $50+ battery and $50+ charger, or toss the unit and cut my losses. See if you can try one before you buy one.

"Big waste of time and money", This is a gimmick product that breaks easily and has terrible customer service. It was entertaining for a few months but quickly its problems became very evident. After prepping the room beforehand (it does not handle fringed rugs) and the amount of cleaning necessary to keep the brushes, etc. in good working order, it's far easier to just use a good upright vac with a hose attachment.

My spinning edge brushes came off after four months of use and customer service (email was the only option for contacting them) never got back to me when I asked about how to reinstall them or where I could get it fixed. The machine would hang up under chairs and just spin in circles endlessly. The roomba would miss areas of the room and be back at its docking station. I'd constantly find it beeping the "help me" message when there was nothing wrong. The cleaning of the brushes was time consuming and the parts were very fragile.

If you want to spend $250 to have something work (kind of) for 6 months and be a novelty, and if you don't mind spending a lot of time cleaning the brushes, then get one. Otherwise don't waste your money. I would guarantee that whomever gives this product a good review has had it for less than 6 months and probably for less than 3.

"It actually works", When I saw this at my mother's house a couple of years ago I thought it was a toy. When my youngest turned two, vacuming became something we could only do at 10:00 at night. Roomba to the rescue. We turn it on every night when we go upstairs to put to boys to bed. It makes a bit of noise, but much less than a vacuum. We have mostly tile floors with a few area rugs. It goes on and off the rugs with no problem, and really does a very decent job cleaning up after the dirt and food that the 2 year old and the 4 year old drag into and arround the house. Cleaning it is really very easy, (you pull out the back of the machine and dump it out over a trash can) and a bit satisfying because you see all the stuff it picked up. It senses drop offs, so you can put it at the top of the staiirs and it doesn't commit suicide. You do have to 'prep' the room, that is, make sure the toys are off the ground- and particularly that there are no wires on the ground. The robot is pretty gentle, though, and the worst that happens if it sucks up a cable is that it stops and beeps unhappily. You just unfurl the cable from the rotter and turn it on again. This will not replace deep cleaning once a week- but its great for the day to day. Some more expensive models go to home base when they need more energy. This seems kind of silly to me, because you really do have to clean the robot after it is done anyway, so you might as well plug it in. I would highly recommend this for any household with too little time.

"Save Your Money", I'd rate this product zero stars if it was an option. After less than 4 months, a wheel on our first original-model Roomba locked, which caused the unit to spin in place. Customer service said this was a defect in the product and sent us another unit of the same model. Less than 5 months after receiving the second unit, the same defect occurred in that Roomba. When we again called iRobot customer service, we were told that we would be charged an additional $95 to replace our second defective unit with an identical model. The reason ... the unit was out of warranty. When I explained that we just wanted to repair the unit, not replace it, the company said it is unwilling to repair its product. A phone call to a customer service supervisor was a waste my time. So, to recap this series of unfortunate events. We paid $170 plus S&H for the original unit. It lasted 4 months. The replacement unit operated for less than 5 months. Now we are being asked to pay an additional $95 to get another (presumably) defective unit, which would inflate this inferior product's cost to $265. Yeah. Right.

"A wish that didn't come true.", During an info-mercial I was sold on Roomba as I watched it pick up piles of dirt, hard candies, and even little tacks. After seeing the price on T.V. I went to the Amazon site and found a "great deal".

Five weeks later my "great deal" was in the garbage because it was easier than dealing with the companies customer service. It never worked like they showed. On carpet it picked up surface dust only, on wood it only pushed the dirt around with the little revolving broom (which broke after the first 2 weeks), and despite the companies claims it does get stuck in corners alot. (And I'm not rearranging my furniture for Roombas convenience.) When you empty the dirt collecter be prepared for bacteria and skin molecules to go up your nose.

I gave it one star for keeping my dog entertained.
