Others say...

"Pancakes anyone?"
I did not expect it to be this good. It is better than the built-in griddle in the stove!

My plan was to use this on the BBQ outside. My wife has taken this for the stove and uses it every day!

Heavy, warning not for people that have issues lifting heavy pots.

One side stripes, the other smooth.

You can heat up 1/2 on the stove with one burner for a small crowd.

"Great Grill/Griddle"
This is exactly what I was looking for. Very heavy, but I knew that and expected it. I love cooking with cast iron because there are no harmful toxins from non-stick coatings. The pre-seasoning is pretty good, didn't have to season it myself. But it is getting better and better with each use. If you care for it properly, it will be so non-stick that all you have to do to clean it is scour it under hot water and the water will bead up and roll off. Mine already does and I've only had it about a month. We leave it out on our gas stovetop all the time and use it frequently. We dry it after washing by turning on the gas under it until the water evaporates and then put a light coat of oil on it and rub it in with a paper towel to coat. Great purchase if you like cast iron cookware.

"Unbearable heaviness of grilling"
Makes a great burger according to my eight year old son who is an expert at eating them. Definitely a welcome addition in the kitchen, but a few caveats are in order. First of all it is very heavy - two hands required to lift it.
Don't buy it if you have a porcelain sink as you will have to rest it against the side to clean it and you will scratch your sink. You also may want to measure the distance between your burners. It does not fit perfectly on mine and it has to be shifted toward the front in order to lay flat.

"Just what I wanted"
My husband and son bought me the griddle for mother's day and it was exactly what I wanted. The trick, as I think was previously mentioned in an earlier review, is to heat the griddle up pretty good before you put food on it, so the food doesn't stick. If you sprinkle a few drops of water on it and it immediately evaporates, the griddle is too hot, but if the water just sits there, give it a little longer to heat up. I'm able to fit 8 big slices of bread on the griddle. My only complaints -- it's heavy, but I knew that going in -- it's cast iron after all! And I end up with a cool spot on the griddle between the two burners of my stove. But again, that's certainly not the fault of the griddle! If you're looking for a good non-stick grill/griddle without teflon coating, this is a keeper.

"Lousy Griddle on Electric Stove"
The griddle side heats unevenly, probably due to 1) The ridged bottom, and 2) existence of electric coils on the stove, rather than a flame. This doesn't change, no matter how long you preheat. Pancakes aren't evenly colored.

Perhaps the ridged side works better, because then the smooth side would be against the coils.

What our customer's say!

"Great cast iron grill", The unit tranfers heat evenly to the cooking area. We have used the grill and the griddle and they both worked excellent!

"Great stove top giddle/Or use for broiling!", I have a cheap gas stove and I always wanted one of those expensive versions. (You know the one's on everyone's TV kitchen) ... This griddle cooks pancakes, french toast, cheese sandwiches and eggs on the smooth side wonderfully. Just kick the burners on high, let it warm up, knock them back to medium until its hot evenly and throw the food on. Don't worry about heating an empty pan, Cast iron can take it. When a water droplet bounces and its not smoking its ready. (Smoking is too hot, duh!)

The other great use is to put it in the oven, turn the broiler/oven on and let it heat up. Then toss on the steaks, ribs, or fish! Yum!

The Lodge seasoning is ok for that first time cooking. You do need to wash off the manufacturing dirt, and a good coat of oil is a good way to start that carbon buildup.

On the down side, the burner grates on my stove instersect with the indented handle slots. There is a slight lip on the pan so that it rests directly on the grate. If you slide the pan down just slightly and to the center of the stove, it sets in just right. But I could see that on not all stoves it would fit as well. The alternative would be to get two of the open cast iron rings that fit on the stove grates and put the griddle on top of them. (These rings are normally designed to aid in holding a small pot over a larger more open gas stove grate) (I got two cast iron grates from the hardware store. I think they were "storm" grates. In an outside fire I burnt the paint off them and now they work fine holding the griddle up off the stove. Also Lodge has a 8" castiron trivet which looks like it should work as well.)

It is heavy, yup. It doesn't fit in my sink very well, but then if you've ever watched the guy at the bar & grill clean his grill, he does it right on the stove. So while the giddle is hot, give it a good scrape with the spatula, and wipe it with a paper towel. You'll get 90% of the food/grease off the pan. Then a quick rinse when it cools down gets the rest. (In the sink put a large sponge under the edge and one behind it to avoid scratching things. Wet it down, soap it up, and let it sit for 5 minutes, come back and give it a scrub and everything will come right off. Some things like burnt on like sweat terraiki sauce require a copper or steel coil wire scrubby. But most things like fish skin, burnt bits of chicken etc, come right off.)

Also if you cook bacon, or other high fat food, it splatters. Since the lip is low, it doesn't catch the grease spatters the way a good fry pan does. More stove cleanup...While it grills ok on the stove top, It's not a replacement for the charcoal cooker. You will need a good vent hood to catch the smoke. (Well yeah)

Also if you plan on using it inside your oven, measure first! Not all ovens are 20" wide inside.

(I have much older cast iron fry pans and everything that's been said about them becoming smooth and non stick is true. Took about 5 years of off and on cooking to do it, and 10 to become perfect. Grandma's pans went to my mother so I had to season my own pans myself. This pan because of the dual sided cooking only took about a month to equal that old fry pan.

"TOO HEAVY, TOO HARD TO CLEAN", Yes, I read all the reviews about the weight. It's 13 or 15 lbs I believe. I'm strong, that's not the worst issue. Cleaning is a major production. Sink not big enough to soak more than half at a time, seasoned it three times and tried three times to cook simple steak and chicken on it. Food stuck no matter what, even with extra olive oil spray. I returned it and got two smaller teflon type grills for two of my burners and we've been using THEM every day! If this one wasn't so darned messy and expensive, we'd have used it outside on the grill. BUT, someone still would have to clean it and no one wanted to spend an hour each time cleaning it!

"Lodge Logic Pro Cast Iron Grill/Griddle", This is a great grill/griddle!! I've used it for sandwiches, grilling burgers, and cooking pancakes. You can't go wrong with this great addition to your kitchen!

"Grill indoors over cast iron", I really like this product. I cooked kebabs as my first dish on it and my guests were impressed. I am glad I went with the 20" pro-model as I think the smaller would have had trouble spanning both burners of my range. As it is, this grill barely reaches the end of both burners. I am assuming that my burners are widely spaced. As a result there is a little uneven heating skewed towards the ends, but I have been satisfied with the results. It is difficult to clean as is any grill. The pre-seasoning Lodge applies helps a lot with that. Because of the non-stick layer of the seasoning I sometimes don't get the grill lines I am looking for on fish and other meats. Hopefully this will come with time.
I have used the griddle side to fry eggs and warm tortillas, no pancakes yet. It works really well despite the uneven heating; again, I believe my burners are wide.

"Great Product", Great product. You have to play with it awhile to get the heat management right if you are not use to cast iron.

"Doesn't Stick!", This product is very high quality. It represents the craftmanship of the last century. We have used it for 2 months now and we have not had anything stick! I would recommend this product to anyone.

"Nice quality product", Fits perfectly on a standard range (looking like a factory option) and is a nicely finished product. Would recommend over many of the cheaper alternatives due to the quality of the finish, the hefty weight, and the handy grease trough on the grill side.

"Stay with it", After I received the griddle I seasoned again before I used it. My first batch of pancakes stuck and I had a mess BUT I washed it with water ,put oil on it and stuck it in the oven,again-the next time I used it it worked well and I had a non stick surface.
I love it. I can't explain it.

"Doesn't heat evenly, Garbage!!!", I have a glass top stove. Maybe it was just my misfortune but it did not cook evenly, and super hard to clean... Also turns rusty if you wipe down with a wet cloth and don't dry completely.
