"Pioneers Pot"
This had to be the cook pot of choice for early settlers. It is designed to stand in a fire and also have fire coals on its top, or hang over an open fire. As a survivorlist I am delighted to have this in my survival kit and in my kitchen.

" A must have for every camp cook!"
I'm a novice at Dutch Oven cooking. This past summer I used the dutch oven to make biscuits and they were absolutely wonderful. I used canned biscuits but will try a recipe for biscuits next time.
The instruction book (included) is great for novice dutch oven chefs and there are many other resources out there for other dutch oven recipes.
I purchased a lid lifter (less than $3) and charcoal starter (less than $7) at Academy. I consider both of these necessities. A lid rack would also come in handy. I'll buy a 12 inch dutch oven before next year's camping season.

"nice quality, not fully seasoned"
I ignored the previous review that recommended scrubbing this and seasoning it yourself, and that decision quickly proved unwise. The day I bought it I made easy cobbler from the great book that is included. The book said to spray some cooking spray on it and heat it up before use, which I did. Unfortunately, the cobbler, which was indeed very easy and good, absolutely fused to the dutch oven. It was the by far the hardest cleaning job I have ever had to do. I scrubbed for hours, and will reseason it. This is a very nice heavy weight dutch oven, the included book is very nice, the price was great. Still it will take me a long time to get over the tremendous cleaning job I had to go through. Buy this, but scrub it and reseason first.

"Dutch oven"
This oven is amazing, with just a few B-B-Q coals it cooks just like it was in a kitchen oven with a timer and closely watched, only without any of that.

"Best DO - best deal"
This was a great price on the highest quality Ducth Ovens made. Lodge is an excellent company with an excellent reputation. The DO arrived in a hurry and was exactly as expecte.

What our customer's say!

"This is the BEST!", My family and I went camping last weekend and used this dutch oven to cook potatoes, chili and vegetables in it and the lid makes perfect eggs. This will pretty much cook everything! Definitey worth the $$$

"dutch oven", I bought this for my husband who loves to cook with dutch ovens. We have a larger one for bigger meals. This one is great for smaller meals and desserts. The price is really fair and we love the dutch oven. It is solid and made of quality material. We'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Great buy!

"Well-made pot", Lodge does it again with this fantastic Dutch Oven. Not only is it attractive, but the lid fits well and the legs are solidly attached. And the cookbook Lodge included had some great-sounding recipes, too! I can't wait to try them!

"Pot of Gold", This product is great, I can't wait for the camping season to put it to full use!

"dutch oven", i have used it twice so far and if you follow the instructions with it not a problem at all..bought it for camping with my Grandson in the scouts ..i almost wish i had bought the 12 inch but have other pan that will work...

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Lodge Dutch Oven", It's great. Made chili and then the corn bread; roasted a whole chicken - delicious! The true camper must have one of these. Shipped and received as promised.

"Great addition for the dutch oven cook", I never write reviews but this dutch oven deserves one. I really love the lodge logic. I have two dutch ovens I seasoned myself and two lodge logic. The preseasoning looks great and wears great, very much worth it. I bought this little dutch oven because I had been introduced to dutch oven cooking and was having a blast with it and felt this would be a nice little oven to use once in a while. I've actually used it all most as much as my twelve incher. It works great for the sides, breads, deserts, etc. The smaller size makes it lighter which is kind of nice also. It keeps my house cool in the summer when I want a bread for dinner but don't want to heat the oven and tonight I had friends over and made an apple crisp by layering the ingredients inside, then stacking it on top of my twelve incher where our dinner was going. Now I'm trying to think of what other things I can do. This is definitely a worthwhile investment.

"Dutch Oven", Perfect size for cornbread or rolls and being pre-seasoned you can use it straight out of the box!

"Cookware you have a relationship with.", People seem to either love, hate, or have total disinterest in cast iron cookware. I love it. It seems to have a lot more soul than "modern" utensils.

I've been reading "Little House on the Prarie" to my daughter and she enjoyed hearing how the Ingalls used a pot just like daddy has.

This dutch oven is quite versitile. I can use it with campfire coals, with charcoal, over my Coleman campstove, or in the oven at home. The legs are too long to use on my rangetop at home (without risking damage to the range surface).

Dutch oven cooking is an acquired skill (on top of the general cast iron learning curve), but I've had no problems so far. I have mostly used it to make chicken or beef stew when camping.

Once you get hooked on dutch ovens, then you start wanting accessories. I use a charcoal chimney to start the coals, a pair of metal tongs to move the coals around, and a metal oil drain pan to contain the coals. I've just ordered a Lodge lid lifter, lid rack, and leather gloves to make the whole process a bit easier and safer.

I'm also already thinking of my next dutch oven. It will be the "deep" 8 quart. The 4 quart being reviewed here is 10" diameter at the lid and 3-1/2" deep. The "deep" 8 quart is 12" at the lid and 5" deep. (The standard depth 12" oven is 6 quarts, the standard depth 8 quart is 14" diameter). For soup or stew I like to leave some space below the rim so I probably only get 3 quarts in the 4 quart model, while the deeper 8 quart model would allow a greater percentage of the volume to be used. I imagine for bisquits or other baked goods the standard depth is probably fine.

"Great Camping Experience", I purchased this dutch oven to use with my Cub Scout pack. It is fantastic! I have used it twice to make biscuits and they were wonderful. I also purchased the 8 quart dutch oven and made deer stew for the entire pack . The pots were very easy to clean up . I highly recommend this item and I am considering purchasing an additional one to use for making dessert.
