Others say...
"Bug Zapper from Charcoal Company" Received the Charcoal Companion Amazing Bug Zapper, opened it up and placed batteries in it and the switch would work only some of the time. It worked better without the battery cover. VERY Cheap, and I would say it is a total waste of your money. Do not buy this one! You are rolling the dice on it. I have one that is the "Original Bug Zapper" and it works fine. thompson. "Great item - flimsy, but inexpensive" I love the zappper, although I am purchasing my second zapper because, as many reviews state, the handle is flimsy. I think my overexuberant swinging could be to blame, though. It's hard not swing for the fences when you can snuff out the life of an annoying fly by watching and listening to it burst into a loud, bright electrical spark. The most satisfying result is when you catch a groggy fly in the morning who spent the night in your house annoying you. For some reason, they often spend the night on our chrome kitchen sink. In the morning, I simply walk up to them and tap them with the zapper. When a fly is propery gounded onto metal, it's like setting off a small firecracker! I guess the company could have made this three times as expensive, and it would last three times as long. I just look at it as a great disposable device that needs periodic replacement. "With great power comes great responsibility..." This thing works. Note: be careful not to touch the grill immediately after letting go of the contact buttons. Yeah, did that once. Also, there's a temptation to abuse this device. Eh. Those are the breaks. Update: the handle just broke on me mid-swat. I am sad. "Just a WASTE of money and battery" I'm really surprised by the previous reviews. I bought this one week a go and do NOTHING to bugs, you actualy have to "kill" the bug (mosquito, fly, etc) by TORTURING it, you will find yourself pressing the 2 buttons for as much as 10-20 seconds in order to kill the bug, if you just zap it for a few seconds you will only torture the bug, like giving it an electroshock and leaving it with epilepsy.. A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. "Entertaining bug zapper (when not broken)" I liked it when I first got it but after a few weeks it had already broke twice and I'm kind of bored with it. The metal coils all came out the first time (I'm not sure how though?) and I had to put each one individually into each hole (took a good 20 mins) and then the second time I dropped it on accident and all of the coils popped out again. Currently its sitting in my room on the floor with coils popping out in all directions. It was a fun toy for a little while (if you get big enough bugs and leave the zapper on they will eventually fry and make a loud POP) and it does it job, but if it breaks a couple times I'm sure you will see just how frustrating it really is. All in all though it did what it was suppose to, which is why I gave it 3 stars

Charcoal Companion Amazing Bug Zapper
Why I buy this one ? - Handheld bug zapper kills insects on contact - Environmentally safe alternative to insect sprays - Current runs through zapper's net upon activation - Two-button activation switch for safety - Runs on two AA batteries (included) It's better to buy this one too...

What our customer's say! "No safety screen means high kill ratio", We've owned several models of this type of bug zapper over the years. All but the oldest have safety screens to keep you from touching the electric wires. Alas, the safety screens also keep BUGS from touching the electric wires. Which is why I went nuts and bought several of this particular model. We are still working out the coordination required to press two buttons at once when swinging at an offending insect, a feature not mentioned in the product description. But it's worth it to hear that satisfying POP! as an annoying fly gets zapped. I have not yet found out if this model is capable of the "perfect storm" moment when under the right conditions a fly explodes in a flash of blue flame. That and the two-button control is why I refrained from the five-star rating. "A PIECE OF USELESS JUNK!", I purchased this product, opened the package, inserted the batteries, and NADA . . . NOTHING . . . DID NOT WORK AT ALL! So typical of the junk that comes in from China and other foreign countries. I returned this product to Amazon.com a number of weeks ago and as yet have not seen any credit issued to my card for the return of this product. "The horizontal-wire configuration pictured here is the best", We have horses, and use fry predators, fly traps, and natural fly sprays to good effect. Still, some always survive to get into the house, and this is the only 100% effective way to kill any type of insect known to man-- flying or crawling, instantly (and in Arizona we've got some whoppers). For best results, don't use as a swatter (you'll miss, and you'll break it). For flying insects, you can zap them in mid-air, but this takes an expert user (e.g., me :-). Instead, wait until they land then (a) note the direction of the brightest light source (b) slowly lower the zapper over the bug perpendicular to the light so that no shadows move over the bug's eyes (c) when you get on top of the bug, it will fly up into the grid and ZAP they are done. I've killed flys, swarms of hornets, spiders, huge beetles, and bees with this. There is no bug that it cannot kill instantly, and all with a 9V battery. We keep a half-dozen on hand (two for killing any bug, and the rest for gifts to friends that clamor for one themselves ;-) "Swat team", Works as advertised - just got a big one tonight - but the face could be larger making it easier to swat fast flying things. Face size is why I didn't give it the full 5 star treatment. "Bug zapper", I bought it as a gift because we have one and find it very useful. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Amazing Bug Zapper", Great product that arrived right on time for Father's Day. Hillarious gift & actually quite useful. "Best zapper I've found", I've used several hand-held bug zappers, and this one is the best. The open design nails big and small bugs, unlike the multi-layer models that large bugs can't fit into. For instance, this thing will knock a large wasp right out of the sky (although it may need to be stepped on to make sure it's gone). With one of the other multilayer zappers, they often just bounce off -- not a problem with the Charcoal Companion. Plus, the open design of this model stays clean, whereas some of the others get clogged up with little bug bodies. I didn't give it 5 stars, because I wish it were a bit more sturdy. However, the price is reasonable, and overall it's a good buy. "It works!", Immediate "touch and die" unless the insect is too big for the mesh...like wood borer bees. It is a little flimsy(what do you expect for this price). It does "sting" you if you touch it while pushing the "on" buttons, so it's not recommended for husbands like mine that must try it out. We've purchased these several times; they make great gifts. "Bye Bye Bees", We use this product to kill huge bees that drill holes into the wood siding of our house. The bees are very destructive, and extremely hard to kill with a typical fly swatter. With the bug zapper they are quickly eliminated in one hit! "Amazing Bug Zapper", Everyone needs to have this in their home! No messes to clean up from a squished bug. I have one in every room also one for outside. Fantastic product. Easy to use and does the job. ![]() |
