Others say...
"Best Thing in Our Kitchen" We have this at home, and we love it, and everyone who visits us wants one. It grinds, tamps, brews and self-cleans in less than a minute, and you can make individual coffee drinks for each person, giving one guest a regular espresso and the next guest a decaf cappuccino, etc. It's perfect for entertaining. "Disappointment at a high price" Money was no object when I bought this machine. It is beautiful. However, it failed to live up to its hype. Too much engineering, too little quality coffee. The self-cleaning mechanism would kick in when I was expecting coffee, the coffee itself was inconsistent in strength and the steamer could not produce froth no matter how I tweaked it. Talking to tech support at Capresso did not help. I wound up returning it to Amazon. "Excellent Product and Service" My first Jura was the F7. I bought it off of Ebay(new) and couldn't have been happier. I was so thrilled with it, that I bought another (F9) and gave my mom the F7 because it was such an awesome machine. It is really remarkable how the machine works. It took me a good 15+ cups to figure out how to make the coffee the way I like it. There are so many options on this machine that effect the taste: Grind, water temp, quantity of beans, quantity of water, etc.... In reference to the service I am amazed. When I received my new F9, I immediately had problems with a couple of the buttons. I called the service center and was on hold for 6-8 minutes. After about a 2 minute conversation with the representative they said that she would just send out a new machine and when I get it to send my old machine back in the box. They paid all postage. No credit card, nothing. I've never heard of such a service before. Absolutely Excellent. I couldn't be happier. It is a great machine that makes very good coffee and looks really nice on the kitchen counter. I love my Jura! As a matter of fact, I believe I am going to go and make myself a decaf latte right down. "Fantastic coffee machine" Although the one I ordered from Amazon was DOA, the manufacturer immediately sent out a new replacement unit without even asking me for a credit card for security. The new unit works perfectly and makes fantastic crema coffee. I also own an Incanto Serius and I find the Jura-Capresso unit to be superior. It's also extremely easy to clean, and does not require decalcification if you use the water filter. My only complaints would be: * The dispenser is tall enough for a large coffee mug, but it's almost impossible to get a travel mug in there; * The water and bean compartments are smaller than I'd like -- they need to be refilled frequently. But this is offset by the relatively small size of the unit. If not for those small issues, I'd rate the unit five stars, and their tech support is great, too! "Excellent product, care and feeding needed" I have owned this for about 9 months and gotten nearly 1000 uses out of it (it counts for you). It can equal most coffeehouse product you are likely to find, but as others point out, it is far short of what an enthusiast can create from more traditional equipment. You may also find the crema coffee settings to be something of an acquired taste (but you can make an Americano in just one more step, which is always great). Also, we went through a brief episode in which it would refuse to brew anything (as if it didn't have the power to punch the water through the puck of coffee). I remedied this with a descaling cycle as well as wiping out the parts above the removable tray thoroughly. (I use filtered water in the machine, but the descaling seems to be a more serious cleaning than the normal automatic cleaning.) Given this, I would recommend keeping large stock of cleaning supplies and at least doing the normal cleaning every couple of weeks, rather than awaiting the machine's automated recommendation to clean. My understanding is that there are no dirt sensors driving these messages. It is just a function of the amount of use. Overall, I would buy this again for certain, and if/when it dies I will be looking at one of its more expensive siblings, not at other brands.

What our customer's say! "Shoddy quality, horrible customer service", Capresso appears to have only one Repair Center in all the U.S. (in Pennsylvania), and any repair requires shipping the unit at your expense ($150) and a few weeks waiting for it to be serviced. Mine broke down several times. Twice from compacted coffee grounds in the grinder, and the last time from a dead water pump -- all within weeks of warranty expiration. You can get as good or better a cup of coffee from a Senseo. I fell for the hype and the promise of quality from a high price tag, and now I have a very expensive door stop. "Excellent Coffee but a Back Door For Hackers (yes I'm serious)", This is an attractive and very functional espresso machine with an impressive amount of settings to ensure you get the kind of drink you want out of it. Granted though, it is about $1000 more than other machines that will offer most of the same features and produce similar quality espresso. The only real difference between this model and cheaper models with similar features and quality is the chrome finish and the internet connectivity feature. I have used this machine before, unlike some of the other 1-star reviews. I do like it as an espresso machine I must admit. How can I give it 1-star then? That's because it's an open invitation to identity thieves and hackers. While an espresso machine that can request maintenance on its own sounds pretty neat, this is actually the source of the 1-star rating I've given it. The internet connectivity feature (which requires software to be installed on a PC on your home network) allows remote hackers to alter settings on your coffee maker. They could change the temperature, flow rates, etc. possibly to the point of damaging the machine. They can also gain remote control of the PC you installed the software on. While this sounds like a fun source of pranks for the hacker, it makes for an over-priced coffee maker that's sounding more and more like a dangerous house-guest. Leave this Trojan horse outside the city gates and get a more reasonably priced model. It does what it does well, but sadly that includes letting hackers into your kitchen. Consider the same brand's less feature-laden versions for example. Post about security back door: http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/493387 "CHROME. !! $1,000 FOR CHROME?? YOU ARE KIDDING?", SAME PERFORMANCE FROM THE $800 JURA -- LESS MOST OF THE CHROME! BUY SMART! "This can be hacked by outside attackers", People can compromise your coffee maker and take over your computer as a result. Coffee isn't worth that risk. "simply the best coffee", We have had this machine for 1 week now, and the machine performs flawlessly. The coffe is the best I've ever tasted. Much better than starbucks, and faster too. The expresso has a perfect crema and switching to a latte couldn't be easier with the xpress plus system (actually turns the F9 into the more expensive Z5. You will not be disappointed in this machine. Could be cheaper but like they say "you get what you pay for" I liken this machine to some of my swiss watches - flawless workmanship and fine quality. Read this reviews before You buy... "4+ years of great service", This machine is excellent. Produces above average espresso on every shot. Foams milk well too. I was an early buyer of this machine, and 8,513 shots later (yes it counts them), I know it is an excellent value. I also would comment that the customer service is excellent. Sent in the machine once, and for $100.00 received a complete overhaul. (Sent in for a pump leak after a house move.) Came back like new, on time, and they paid for the return shipping. Can't ask for much more. I will buy another super auto, from Jura/Capresso, when the time comes for a new machine. It might be many years from now... "Fabulous expresso maker", This is a well thought out machine. It's easy to use and to maintain and makes awesome coffee and expesso drinks. Every expresso maker I've had in the past has been such a hassle to use and clean that I've always abandoned them after a short time. This one's a keeper! "Amazon price deceptive", Saw a demo of this at a local Sur la Table and very impressed. The coffee it makes is outstanding. I plan to buy one later this year. Amazon is being deceptive about price. They state list price is $2400, and they're selling it for $1798.95, at a savings of $601.05. NOT! Look at the Jura-Capresso website. The list for the Impressa F9 is $1799. That brings Amazon's big discount down to a whole $0.05. The higher end Impressa S9 is $2399 (and Amazon claims it is $3200). Do your research. Don't trust Amazon's claims for MSRP. "When it works well, it's great, but customer service stinks!", My office has had this machine for almost a year, and while it does make decent (not the best) coffee, my major complaint would be the(lack of) customer service! I have tried unsuccessfully for over two weeks to get a live response to my complaint about the "start" button being inoperable, but I only get emails that indicate I should call their toll-free number that NO ONE ever answers! Talk about a waste of time. I'm ready to throw my machine out the window and make my coffee the old-fashioned way. "Very Good All Around Machine", This is not for your typical coffee drinker. It could be, but isn't. The thing that separates it is primarily the price, otherwise just about anybody who drinks coffee should absolutely love this machine. This machine can and does make excellent coffee, cafe americano. It makes very good, but not excellent espresso. You can do as good or better with this machine than you'll probably get at a chain coffee shop. The key to quality coffee on this is to use HIGH QUALITY coffee beans. I mean specifically beans that are recently roasted. The more recently roasted the beans, the better off you are (optimum use date is 2 days after roasting). I recommend coffee from www.intelligentsiacoffee.com (try their accidental/occidental and house blends) or www.victrolacoffee.com (streamline espresso). Make sure you use the high temperature setting for best results, also. When making espresso, I think it helps to warm the machine up for making steam before you make the espresso (gives more flavor). The steam wand is OK, but somewhat limited in that it's hard to get some frothing pitchers maneuvered in for frothing. True coffee geeks will want a high-quality espresso machine where you can control the tamping of your grind, along with a quality burr grinder because you're not going to get a "God Shot" from the F9. But for the rest of us, and even coffee geeks that enjoy the ease of single-button coffee/espresso quickly in the morning, this machine is very capable. ![]() |
