"Great tea kettle - flimsy on/off switch"
We've been using this kettle for over a year now and our only complaint has been the power switch, which stopped 'holding' a couple of months ago. Basically, when you flip it on, it holds for a few seconds and then releases... you have to manually hold it in place until the water boils. However, outside of that, we've been very pleased with it. So, I called Cuisinart today and am in the process of getting a replacement, per the warranty agreement.

So, in short, it's a good kettle, but be careful of the power switch!

"Electric Jug Kettle"
My last kettle like this lasted almost 3 years before the mechanism which flips the lid for filling finaly wore out. I chose to buy the same model because this kettle is easy to fill and it has a comfortable handle for pouring. I also like the brushed stainless steel finish and the kettle's design.

"It RUSTs"
This is an expensive nice lookig product. BUT... I have had it for only six months and the bottom of the kettle rusted. I wrote to cuisinart and waiting for reply...it must be a flaw in the manufacturing of this item since it is made for heating water...right?

I would not recommend at all...

"excellent product"
Maybe not as sleek as some - but it is quiet, fast, and doesn't get hot to the touch like some other electric kettles. However, try not to drop it 5 feet to your hard tile kitchen floor as I did. It won't survive. I liked my first one so much, I bought it again as a replacement.

"Excellent, attractive, effective"
I have had this kettle for over a year, and don't know how I lived with out it. I use it several times a day for tea water and for boiling water to cook with (as it's so fast)since I got it. I get many compliments on it's good looks and am about to buy one for a gift for my brother.

What our customer's say!

"watch out for the clasp!", This is a beautiful piece of kitchen art, but it has some flaws...Our last one pooped out somewhere around 2 years (started leaking from near the handle), and the latch to close the top cracked fairly soon on the first one we bought, years ago. You can tell that we keep buying them, though! Here's why: when working properly, it is FAST, and from my research on the internet, its the best guarantee going at a three-year replacement. Suggest you hold the lever and gently push the lid down each time you fill it though - it does become second nature. We're keeping the receipt for this one, and keeping an eye on the date. Here's the thing--if it breaks after the guarantee period, we'll buy another one.

"great, for a while", I had this kettle for just under three years. I liked it enough, especially aesthetically, and it functioned well, but now it keeps malfunctioning - shutting off before the contents have boiled so I'm shopping for a new one.

"Broken after 18 months", I bought this kettle 18 months ago. It functioned well until recently, when the mechanism for boiling became unreliable. For example, I am sitting here watching the boil light flicker on and off. The kettle starts to boil, then stops, then starts again. After 45 minutes I *might* get a cup of tea. Not worth the money. I agree with others about the lid too.

"Cordless Electric Jug Kettle", Product had broken lid latch!

Same complaint by others.

Otherwise good product.

"Great water heater", Bought mine a year ago.
Works fast and not problems.
Buying another one today for my daughter.

Couldn't find in stores so I went on-line.
The electric kettles available in stores now don't have the style or quality of this one.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Nice product", Nice product. Not sure if the product boils water hot enough to a full boil. Water level indicator will be nicer if it goes all the way to the bottom of the kettle. No way to see if it is empty or not.

"I've owned this for over a year now no complaints!", Hi, I was given this by my husband for our anniversary last year (2006) and it has NEVER let me down. It is used daily and has never had any issues. It's faster than our electric stove, or microwave and saves big bucks on our electricity bill. It boils water and shuts off end of story. Maybe I got a good one? I love this thing. It's amazing and if it doesn't shut off...why are so many people letting it boil dry? It takes a really, really, really long time to get to that point! I empty it each time and refill with clean cold water. Never had an issue. I highly recommend it and it's cuisinart...if you have issues with it...speak to them directly...they'll replace it!

"Four years and counting!", I'm shocked to read all these terrible reviews for this wonderful kettle -- I love mine! For over four years it has been used daily, not only to boil water in a flash for hot drinks, but also (though not daily) to speedily heat water to transfer to a stovepot for boiling pasta. The other reviews initlally led me to wonder if Cuisinart had changed their kettle, but the one offered on this page has the identical item number: CJK-17BC; the same appearance, and the identical 3-year warranty (according to the product blurb here on Amazon) -- that mine has. Note, a 3-year product warranty is a real anomaly in a world where 90-day warranties have sadly become the norm.

I'm very sorry to learn about the bad experiences that some others have had with this kettle, but my own experience with it -- and that 3-year-warranty -- still lead me to enthusiastically recommend this kettle to anyone.

"Beware - this is a short-term kettle only", Being English, I depend on having a reliable kettle to boil water for the many pots of tea our family drinks each day. After reading reviews on Amazon I went looking in the stores and came away from Bed Bath & Beyond with the Cuisinart CJK-17BC (it's a nice looking kettle for the modern kitchen and it felt well-made). That was in July 2005, and it lasted the longest of all the subsequent replacements I was given. The on/off switch suddenly died in March 2007. BB&B replaced it, but the same thing happened in May 2007, and that replacement lasted until the same fault recurred a few days ago (Sept 2007). Because BB&B did not have any more of the Cuisinart kettles in-store, I came away with a Braun WK200 (which seems to have favorable reviews on Amazon) I am hoping to have more success with it.

Thankfully, the customer service at Bed Bath & Beyond was exceptional and they kept replacing the kettles that died. However, it would have driven me insane if I had bought this kettle on-line and had to wait for a replacement.

I cannot fathom why so many electric kettles in the USA are getting such lousy reviews. The ones I used in England in the 1980s, the ones where you had to push the electric cord into the actual kettle after filling it up, seemed to be so much more reliable.

If you are considering buying an electric kettle, do your homework and read as many reviews as possible (particularly if you are looking specifically for a stainless steel one). I would suggest not ruling out the plastic kettles, and would also suggest you buy a brand sold in Europe (you could go one step further and have a look at reviews on Amazon's UK website, Amazon.co.uk).

"unreliable product", I, too, thought I'd give this teakettle a try. For 6 weeks it worked fine, although the top stuck and I had to push it open after the first day. I only used it twice a day. One morning I turned it on and the operating light flickered then quit. It hasn't worked since. BELIEVE THE REVIEWS and don't buy this product!
