Others say...
"Leaves film on my hardwood floors! Now I have to mop again!" I've had this Swiffer for two years and I can tell you that I hate it. I put it in my cleaning closet after buying another microfiber mop and only use it if that mop's pad is dirty. Well, today I pulled out the old Swiffer Wet Jet, scrubbed to my heart's content, and now I have nice, STREAKY, DULL hardwood floors! I have to re-mop my whole kitchen all over again and am putting this thing on Craigslist to give away for FREE! Also, the battery compartment does keep coming off, and the replacement pads are too $$. Save your money and buy a different product! "Good, easy, light!" I guess it's between the steam mop, and the Swiffer WetJet for us lazy floor washers. For me, the Swiffer is "it". I love that it's so light, it takes up so little room - it can be stored anywhere when you're not using it, and you can buy the replacement pads and detergents in most supermarkets now. Also - there's no CABLE involved. The scents from the different choices of detergents, are more like aroma therapy to me, than floor cleaner scents. My husband thinks they come on a little strong the first 10 minutes or so, but then again - we have dogs, cats and kids, so we need real fresh scents. When I have visitors coming over to a recently cleaned house, they always compliment me on the fresh smelling house. I like that! As some of the former "reviewers" have commented: The batteries really last a long time. I clean 1600 square feet of hardwood and tile floors 1-2 times a week, and the batteries have lasted me about 6 months every time. My guess is that what is going to determine if you love Swiffer, or think it's a waste of money, is mainly your "cleaning style". I vacuum every day (not because I'm such a great homemaker, but because I use a Roomba - a robotic vacuum, which I turn on every morning before going to work). The dust from my dogs and cats, running in and out their cat/dog door all day and night, gets picked up by the vacuum, so I have a really easy time cleaning the floors. 30 minutes, half a bottle of detergent, 2-3 cleaning pads, and my floors are done. Compared to the Steam mop, which generally seems to be a little heavy to have glide over the floors for you, the Swiffer pads slide really well! Sometimes, I feel like I'm painting, and not cleaning (lol). Of course it is a little annoying that the detergent bottles aren't refillable, but it's the price I pay for an easy life with The WetJet. As for the whole disinfecting or not disinfecting the floors: With a steam mop, you will only be able to disinfect your floors if you hold the mop still, spraying for 15 seconds or more over each part of the floor. The Swiffer WetJet doesn't claim to disinfect the floor, but the detergent will kill 98,5% of the bacterias on the floor. On the other hand: Who needs a germ-free floor? Your feet, pet butts, and only God knows what is going to be on it in a matter of minutes after you finish cleaning anyway. Last but not least: The Combo pack is cheap to buy, and it actually doesn't break - even when my husband rough houses it around on the floors. I've had my first one for 2 years, and it's still going strong. I just bought a second one for upstairs, so I don't have to move it around. Five thumbs up from me, on the wetjet :-) "Great Product- worth a chance!" I have had a hard time figuring out the best way to clean my tile flooring. I started with a clorox ready mop- what a piece of junk. The spray mechanism kept breakting. I never felt as though the floor was clean- I would end up having to take out a scrubber and do things by hand. So then, fed up with the product, I went to the traditional mop. This has been a great thing for the most part. I feel as though I can really clean and scrub my floors. However, it was such a pain and a lot of work. I still needed something that would allow me to do a quick touch up around the highchair- or doing areas of the house that just needed a little sparkle and shine. I picked up the Swiffer Wet Jet and have been in mop heaven! Here is a quick list: Pros: Easy to work with Heavier duty, heavier than the ready mop which helps with the elbow grease Nice smelling cleaner Easy to assemble Cleaned up dried baby food like a charm! Swivels around furniture nice Get's into the corners and along the edges of the cupboards without soaking them Easy to take with me to all the rooms in the house- I did my kitchen, hallway, and two bathrooms with the same pad, no problem. I did the white sock test- and it passed! Cons: The pump sprayer is kind of noisy, its like a mid pitch whine. You get used to it, but it took me off guard It was a little more expensive than I would have liked- but worth the few dollars extra than the ready mop. Best to wait until you have a coupon to buy the starter kit. Haven't figured out how to refill the bottle of solution with my own concoction- so you're stuck with the swiffer brand stuff. Scrubber pad takes some coordination to use- and it doesn't scrub all that well IMO "Hardwood floors will love this" I have over 2000 sq. feet of Oak flooring in my home and happened across this product. Skeptical, I decided to give it a go. One word, Fantastic!. My floors have not been cleaner since the day they were installed, and along with the antibacterial properties of the cleaning solution and the pleasant citrus smell you have the perfect hard surface cleaner. I cleaned the entire floor with 1/2 bottle and 2 pads, and it was dirty. If you are tired of the old vinegar and water routine on your wood floors, give this product a try. I LOVE IT! "Easier way to mop" I love this mop! It is easy to use and very convenient. The replacements are expensive but I refill with my own solution to save money. The mop pads aren't as good as the older ones but it gets the job done and it works for me so I will continue to use this mop.

What our customer's say! "If you like this wetjet...be prepared to buy a new one every 6 months", This product is pretty good for a quick cleanup and I find that the pads actually remove a lot of dirt. However, this darn product keeps breaking in half (at the point where the handle connects to the rest of the pole). It is so annoying! I have now bought a similar Mr. Clean mop which has a much sturdier pole since the spray is generated by trigger action not by battery power. Therefore, no wires need to run through the poles. I wonder how many swiffer wetjets are lying around in garbage dumps with broken handles...what a waste! It is a shame because you can't even post a review at the swiffer wetjet web site. "Neither efficient nor cost effective", While not expensive to initially purchase, this system IS expensive in the long run. If you mop your floors regularly or have a lot of rooms to mop, you'll be constantly replacing pads and cleaner and batteries, none of which are cheap. Additionally, this system does not clean my laminate floors well. It leaves them cloudy/hazy and they never look or feel 100% clean afterwards. When I go over with a damp paper towel where I just mopped, it always shows a fair amount of dirt. And looking at the pad when you remove it from the mop you can see why. The way it is designed, the most pressure is on the front edge of the mop. The center and back of the pad don't receive nearly as much pressure and pick up almost nothing. In short, for small jobs and irregular cleaning, this mop will do. Otherwise, it is inefficient, expensive and ultimately frustrating. "Odile Swann", This is my second one. I love it over a mop and pail, any day! After a day of working in my 10 x 15 foot studio, I pick up bits and pieces with my hand vac and then use the Swiffer Wet Jet Power Mop, which really works for a quick clean up, It brings the floors back to their original sheen. My work place even smells fresher! Works just fine on the tiles on the bathroom floor tiles; especially in those small turns around the toilet. About the battery problem some have groused about. Try reading the instructions thoroughly. Nothing is a given. I gave one to a busy working gal as a house warming present and she is now addicted to all the Swiffer products. For some it IS a time saver. How's that for a gleaming testimonial?! "Cost", Product is very good overall. However, I noticed after buying that it was available at Wal-Mart much cheaper and that was before the shipping charges were added. "It's O.K.", I wanted the Wet Jet for my kitchen floor which is white tile (didn't pick it and wouldn't recommend it) which shows dirt two minutes after mopping. I can only get it together to REALLY mop my kitchen about twice a month so I wanted something easy I could whip out and put away fast. I mopped just now for the first time and it did a decent job. Not as good as getting down on your hands and knees, but I was satisfied with the results. Having said that, there are a lot of small problems with the Wet Jet. My kitchen is not very big and only took between 3-4 minutes to mop, however in that time span the battery cover fell off twice. The scrubby strip on the side is hard to use (you have to twist the head and that's when the cover pops off) and is virtually useless. If you have something stuck on you will have to scrape it with your fingernail or whatever. I wish I had listened to other reviewers who complained of the price of the replacement pads. The Wet Jet comes with only two pads which I will reuse until they fall apart because a two-pack box of 24 pads on Amazon is 23.99. You get a lot of pads for the price but I have a hard time justifying the cost. Also, you have to use the cleaning solution to moisten the pad in order to mop the floor and it seems to use a lot. The spray, which attaches to the mop, is pretty cheap (3.99 for a bottle) and smells pretty good. My problem is that the good smell is still permeating my house 30 minutes later and burning the back of my throat as I write this. So in terms of being "green" this product gets no stars from me. Doesn't matter how good it works if I can't stand to breath it. If you are at all sensitive to chemicals or strong synthetic smells I recommend mopping, opening all the windows and leaving for a few hours. I may dump out the cleaning and refill the bottle with the scent-free cleaning solution I normally use. In short, it was quick and easy, and if I could get a scent-free solution I would give it 4 stars. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "USED to love this item", I bought the swiffer wet jet when it came out back in 2003 or so. I LOVED it. It really made cleaning hardwoods and tile easily. I noticed however a year or two ago that the cleaning pad has been changed to a thinner, less absorbent pad. The pad just moves around the dirt and cleaning solution and doesnt actually suck up the soil like the old pad did. I didnt realize what a horrible job it was doing until I decided to get out an old mop and just use water and vinegar. WOW were my floors dirty even right after using the swiffer wet jet! I just moved about 2 mos ago and ended up leaving it in the closet...felt bad throwing it away since it did give me a few years of good cleaning. Wouldnt ever use it again unless swiffer changes to a better more absorbent pad. "Only good for light, small cleaning.", I wanted to get this Wet Jet because I hated having to go wet the mop in the bucket and back and forth. I tried the Wet Jet to clean my whole house and it was fast cleaning, but not so great. It didn't clean my floors that great, and the scent of the cleaning product was a bit too strong. I think this is a waste of money to have to keep buying the cleaning products plus the pads for the Wet Jet. I do like the Wet Jet only for fast and small cleaning areas like after cooking in my kitchen or the bathrooms. I will be replacing my Wet Jet with another mop. I will be returning the Wet Jet back to the store. I got the Sh-Mop now and it's AWESOME!! My review for the Sh-mop is there. "Really good! Fast and effective!!", I love this mop! I'm the kind of person who hates mopping floors. It is usually so hard, but this little baby makes things so much easier. Yes, you have to use a broom first, but you always have to do this before you mop anyways! The only downside to me is the smell. It smells good and clean, but it is kind of strong. "Sprays my cabinet doors - Spray is too high - Awful Product", I truly hate this product. I've used the original Swiffer Wet and the Clorox mop. This one requires batteries - such a waste when it could be a pump. The spray goes out about 3 feet and I had to wipe down my kitchen cabinets and my wooden table legs afterwards. The scrubber is difficult to flip over to use. The pads come dry so you have to use the sprayer to wet them down. It uses a lot of the solution. Since you can't refill the container with your own cleaning product they have you sucked into buying bottles of their solution. I'm throwing mine in the trash and going back to the Clorox model. "Okay- for small jobs only.", I purchased this after a friend recommended it. I have hardwoods floors throughout my living room, dining room, hallway, and kitchen. I needed something to clean them effectively as I have a toddler and a dog. At first I liked it until I noticed that it leaves streaks of film on my floor. It looks dusty almost like it wasn't cleaned in areas. I sometimes have to go over an area 2 or 3 times. This product is good for small quick spills, but I would not recommend it for larger areas. ![]() |
