"Pretty, but not very functional", I like the Calphalon Contemporary line a great deal, and so I was pleased to find the steamer insert that fit my pan. But my first attempt to use it was a failure--the small steamer holes (and not very many of them) are easily covered by the food to be steamed, leaving the insert to function like a double boiler. After working for close to an hour to steam summer squash (which should take 20 minutes at most), I gave up and dumped the squash into the steaming water and boiled it. I'm sure that some foods will steam in this pan, but items that lay flat like sliced vegetables will be a problem.
