Others say...

"great"
Before I bought this rice cooker I really carefully read reviews for this and similar models. To me this one is where price meets requirements.
I have been using this cooker for only over a month. Me and my husband absolutely love the quality of rice it makes. It's easy to operate and clean. Just don't forget to wipe water under the removable steam insert!

"GREAT rice cooker"
I'm Japanese and we take our white rice very seriously. I got this because I lost my last one that I brought from Japan in my divorce. This thing makes GOOD rice. One button start is easy to use. My only complaint is, it takes FOREVER to cook the rice, so if you've had a late day at the office, it's a pain to have to wait for the rice to cook. I understand that a lot of nice rice cookers take a long time to cook these days, so I guess we just have to learn to live with it. Overall, good product!!

"Great Rice Cooker"
I enjoyed this rice cooker very much. It cooks much better rice compared to my old one under $20. The rice tasts many many times better. If you cook rice almost every day, it worths the cost.

"Who knew rice could be so good?"
We received this rice cooker as a gift and love it! It makes perfect rice with really minimal effort. (Literally, you add rice, water, and push a single button. It beeps when it's ready.) It never boils over like some of the other rice cookers I've seen.

"Good rice cooker, but expensive"
This is a nice product but compared to cheaper rice cookers you can buy at a chinese grocery store, I'm not sure it's worth it.

pros:
- timer feature
- reheating cycle
- haven't tried the porridge option yet
- rice pot is easier to clean
- probably produces more consistent rice than a cheaper one

cons:
- takes a lot longer to cook (~50 minutes for 3 cups, ~40 minutes using "quick" cooking).
- much more expensive

If you have the extra cash it's a good product to own, but in terms of bang for the buck it's just an okay value IMHO.

What our customer's say!

"works ok but hard to clean", I got this rice cooker brand new and have been using it since 8/2002. My family and I use it 1-2 times a day, every day.

Pros:
-White rice option works great.
-Cute design.
-Time pre-set option.
-Retractable electrical cord.

Cons:
-Inner lid can't be removed, which makes it hard to clean. With regular use and/or over time, fluid/food accumulates and the fact that the outer and inner lids aren't removable, means having to tilt the whole unit upside down while slowly rinsing. This is while avoiding water in other parts of machine.
-Porridge option makes porridge that's too thick, very much the consistency of rice pudding, no matter how much extra water you put or if you pre-soak the rice. I was hoping for more-liquidy porridge.
-Expensive.

Overall, if I had to choose again, I would not go with this item. My experience with this product definitely makes me think twice about buying any Zojirushi product. I would rather go with a Tiger rice cooker next time.

"It's served us well for 3 years", This is the particular model that we own among the hundreds of rice makers out there. It's worked well and I agree with the other reviewers that it wasn't easy to get it to work the first few times, but overall it's served us well.

The reason we need to replace it is that now the cover won't stay firmly shut when it's cooking. We used to like the ability to start the rice cooking whenever we wanted to and it would keep it warm and properly moist for a day or two. Now we have to use the cooking timer so that it starts cooking an hour or two before we get up the next day; it will only keep the rice moist for a couple of hours since the cover isn't tight anymore and it begins to dry out after that.

At its current price I'd say it's almost worth buying the same model again; the (possibly) better-built ones are way more expensive. I wouldn't recommend buying the el cheapo ones--the cooking quality is almost at the campsite level and you won't get the features like being able to keep the cooked rice moist and firm for much longer than an hour (!).

I'll probably get this model again or something similar. Zojirushi is a good maker of these kinds of products, at reasonable prices.

"the bestest brand ever", i have used Zojirushi brand just about everything in my house.if you are a rice lover like all asian,u need to invest on this brand.the rice are really good n fluffy.but when u clean the pot,use the sponge not the scrubber or any kind of brush as it will damaged the bottom.i just bought a new one last week model NS-MYC10 for 5.5cup for family of 4 like me n it works perfect as i used to owned the 10-12cups.it work perfect n for a very long time.

"Rice machine? More like an advanced life form.", While I've only owned it for a short time, I think this rice maker is dynamite. I've made both white and brown rice in it and it's come out as fluffy as a cloud. Be careful when you open it though. You might just drool on yourself as the aroma fills your mind with anticipation........... For 130 clams, it better be good;-)

"Nice ricecooker", Very compact and nice look. Three menu functions, cooking/quick/congee and timer. Enough for everyday using.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"An Excellent Rice Cooker", I wasn't that excited when I received this as a gift but as soon as I started using it I was thrilled! No more trying to start the rice at just the right time so it will be ready when the rest of the meal is done. I can start the rice whenever it's conventient and it will keep warm and be ready when I am ready to eat. No more pots boiling over on the stove with starchy rice water burned onto my stove top. If you love risotto but don't like being tied to the stove stirring, you'll love this. It's also excellent for many other dishes, not just rice.

I do agree with another reviewer that the owner's manual isn't very helpful. However, I received an excellent book with my rice cooker, "The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook" by Hensperger. With the help of this cookbook, I have made many delicious dishes. Brown rice comes out excellent as well!

This is a great rice cooker at an affordable price. If you eat rice more than once a month, you'll love this small applicance. Oh, I almost forgot, it cleans up in a snap as well!

"Rice Cooker", Best rice cooker I have ever had. Found the directions a bit confusing at first but then just used common sense and it was fantastic rice!

"The best rice cooker", Without a doubt an excellent rice cooker.
I'm making MUCH more rice than ever before because it's just so good...every type rice I've made was vastly better than any I've made in the old type cookers.
Husband loves Scottish Oats and I can make often because it's so easy and so much better than cooking on the range-top.
I am a bit ambivalent about buying this model rather than the ZCC10 model which has the brown rice setting, but other than that I couldn't be happier.

"Does exactly what it says on the box, reliably.", Very easy to use - especially the timer function. No messy saucepan boil over. Perfect rice for sushi. Just set and forget.
I use it every day to make perfect morning porridge. The night before fill bowl with 0.5 cup steel cut irish oats and 1.5 cups water. Set the timer and presto, at 7am the perfect porridge. Sprinkle with flax meal, drizzle with milk and maple syrup.
Clean up is a doddle - no sticky residue - no burnt bits.

"Perfect rice", Cooker does a very good job. Instructions are obviously not written by an English major. Product works very well but hard to learn what to do.
