Others say...
"Great little machine" This is a great little coffee maker. It is a bit deceiving, however, because while the carafe is stainless steel, it is not thermal. It doesn't claim to be, but I assumed it was because of the stainless carafe. In any case, it does seem to keep coffee quite warm, even when the burner is turned off. This could be because the coffee it makes is much hotter than my Krups and Mr. Coffee machines, resulting in a better cup. I have had absolutely no problem with leaking as other reviewers have. It doesn't drip at all. Recommended highly. "I can live without the coffeemaker shutting off after 30 minutes" I can live without the coffeemaker shutting off after 30 minutes I purchased this 4-cup coffeemaker after I broke my second (spare) glass carafe of my 4-cup Mr. Coffee maker (got it as a gift over 14 years ago). It is amazing that the cost to replace that carafe is nearly the cost of a new coffeemaker! I won't need to worry about cracking or breaking this stainless steel carafe. One minor complaint I have with the carafe is that the plastic rim that makes up the pouring lip/lid holder/handle assembly prevents pouring every last drop of coffee. I also find it slightly annoying that Cuisinart found it necessary to turn off the heating plate after 30 minutes although I'm sure it is a safety feature with a carafe I cannot see through. I've never damaged a glass carafe from "boiling" it dry. I do not find the carafe lid annoyingly difficult to remove or place in position. This lid is different than my glass carafe version and even then, with the Mr. Coffee I need to align the lid opening to the spout like I do with this version. I don't know if it is just the black color of the parts but the brew basket and coffee maker drip arm have remained clean after brewing over the eight months I've owned and used it. I think that the design of the Cuisinart helps keep the coffee from splashing back onto the drip arm and lid which keeps this area very clean. My old Mr. Coffee was difficult to keep clean (the water sprinkling area above the coffee basket). PROS: The coffee maker's drip arm (so far) remains clean after use. The carafe should last long after the coffee maker stops working. CONS: I cannot pour every last drop of coffee easily from the stainless steel carafe. The warming pad shuts off after 30 minutes. "Drip drip drip" Two fatal flaws in the carafe design. First, it overpours awfully when the lid is not on. I usually fill my coffe maker by filling the carafe with water then pouring it in. With this model, if you do that with the carafe lid off, you'll end up with a counter full of water. It just pours past the undersized spout. But I've adapted, and make sure the lid is on, and have a towel nearby. Second flaw is that it tends to pour badly even with the lid on. Especially when pouring the coffee into a mug, since you don't want coffee everywhere. It makes a dirty mess. I always end up with drips, so I end up pouring over the sink. Another issue is that if the basket isn't properly seated, it will not drain into the carafe, and will overflow. The difference between "properly seated" and "not seated" is about 1/4". So I always need to check this every time I make a cup. This is a product that looks cool with the stainless steel, but in reality, it's just a hassle with a ton of little things you have to watch out for. I'm trying to replace it now. "great product" As far as We have used it it works great and affordable price as compared to other sites and stores...we donot use it everyday but till now it is working great..It is cuisinart...great product "Serious Design Flaws" Three years ago, I purchased the black model for a lake cottage. It worked fine until two weeks ago when a critical plastic element broke. (Keep in mind, this was used seasonally, not daily for thee years.) Because I was so pleased with the black model originally, I purchased a white one for home. The carafe lip is slightly different, and all the reviews that describe it as dribbling or dripping when pouring are on target. It's a pain in the neck. The same design flaw is true of the red model which I purchased for our office. You cannot pour it without it dribbling down the side of the carafe, at least by the end of the pot. Don't waste your money.

What our customer's say! "Cuisinart 4-cup a Winner for Me!", I had a very nice Braun 4-cup coffeemaker until a few weeks ago when I broke the carafe. I briefly tried a Black & Decker DCM18 Brew 'N Go Coffeemaker, and although the coffee was good, hot, and easy to make, it was quite noisy and just didn't make enough coffee at one time. Then I bought a Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4-Cup Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Carafe, Black. I really like the visual indicator of how much water is in the tank--you can see exactly how much water to pour in because the indicator is staring you in the face as you're pouring in the water. I've discovered that it's better to pour in the water, put the filter and coffee in, and then close the top *before* placing the carafe on the hotplate. I use paper filters. If you put the carafe in place first, the filter/coffee holder may not get seated properly. The pouring spout on the carafe is terrific--no spills. However, I sort of miss having a glass carafe to be able to see how much coffee is left in the pot (but I guess I won't break this one), and because there is a substantial plastic lip around the inside of the top of the carafe it's difficult to get the last drops of coffee out. Finally, I also like the on/off rocker switch and the fact that it goes off automatically after about 30 minutes--no more smelly burned coffee left in the pot!! Oh, and the coffee is good and it's hot. "I love this little guy", This is a great little coffee maker if you like small and simple. I'm the only coffee drinker in my family and only needed a 4 cup maker. I love the stainless steel carafe- it is very easy to wash and and there is no worry about breaking it. I also like the feature where you can remove the pot while brewing and the operation stops until the pot is put back on. I started brewing once without the pot in place (LOL) and there was no mess because the water never came out. The auto shut off after 30 min is another great safety feature, since I'm guilty once or twice of leaving a coffeemaker on only to have the liquid boil down to nothing. "Great, simple coffee maker", This is a great coffee maker. I only make 1 cup at a time (I live alone), but even with a 4-cup capacity it is not that big. Had it for 2 years, never a problem. Sometimes the coffee leaks out when I pour it into a mug, but that's probably me being clumsy, so I pour over the kitchen sink. Excellent product for the cost. Easy to clean too! "Perfect for Perfect Coffee", Perfect for perfect coffee, particularly when you travel. We just returned from a two week trip, with a different lodging each night. We insist on drinking our favorite coffee each morning. We packed some, and used the coffee maker, with its "gold" filter each morning!! "Carafe Drips", Received this coffee maker for my birthday. It basically does what it is designed to do and more. The "and more" part is the dripping of coffee on the counter and the dribbling of the coffee to the bottom outside of the carafe with subsequent transfer to the hot plate. I have tried pouring ever so slowly, stuck my tongue out the right side and left side of my mouth while pouring to no avail. The really sad thing is that I just saw a GE 4 cup coffee maker, the exact same design, sans the metal carafe, for $10 at Walmart. Buyer beware. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Cuisinart DCC-450BK 4 - Cup Coffee Maker", The Cuisinart DCC-450BK is perfect for 1-2 people. With the 30 min timer, you know how long the coffee is fresh. "Are you an Appliance Whisperer?", I've been using this for about a month now, and I think it has an equal amount of pros and cons. Cons: I wish this had a simple flip-up lid on the carafe instead of this backwards placement thing. Placing the carafe in the machine can be a little frustrating, it seems to need a lot of pressure to fit under the spout. This is due to the design of the "pause and pour" feature, which, honestly I could do without if it's going to cause that much difficulty and isn't even recommended to do mid-brew according to the users manual. And it would be better if the heating element would stay on for an hour instead of 30 minutes. Pros: Availability of a mesh cone filter is a bonus. The coffeemaker takes up very little counter space. It's great to have a carafe that I don't have to worry about shattering. The coffee tastes EXCELLENT, I gotta give it that. In the month I've used it, I've gotten used to its little quirks. I recommend this machine if you're not easily frustrated by household items that need a special touch or just seem to have a mind of their own. "I love my Cuisinart!!!", It is the best small coffee maker, I found the best deal/price and I wouldn't change a thing!!!! "Impossible to pour coffee without its leaking all over.", It is impossible to pour a cup of coffee without its dribbling a significant amount down the spout onto the counter top. Never pour a cup while holding it over your body if you value your you know what. "Cuisinart DCC-450BK", Excellent little maker. Produces exactly the amount and strength of coffee need. It did not require iterative trials to obtain just the right taste. I like my coffee strong - French roast beans, freshly ground and strong enough that the foam is brown. This makers delivers! The stainless pot has a plus and a minus: The plus is you can't break it - I replaced my old maker because the carafe got cracked when the warming plate was left on. The auto off feature of this maker wouldn't let that happen anyway. The minus is that you can't see how much you have remaining in the pot or detect if it has finished brewing. One minor negative is that the steam rises against your hand when you are pouring the last drop. ![]() |
