Others say...

"Automatic Clean annoying"
The iron works well until the automatic cleaning displays. I don't seem to get much ironing done before the cleaning message is displayed and then it takes several instances to get it to turn off. The instructions say to let the iron heat for 3 minutes before starting the cleaning and then 2 minutes to cool once you're finished. That's over 5 minutes to get through the cleaning process and sometimes it has to be done several times. It seems to require cleaning fairly often. Very annoying.

"good rating from Counsumer's Report made me buy it"
After checking Consumer's Report, I decideded to buy this iron.
Thus far I have been pleased. I lack strength in my hands and have a little trouble pushing the spray and steam buttons, but otherwise am pleased with the iron. I have had it a month.

"Expected a longer life span"
I purchased the iron based on Consumer Reports' top rating. It worked well enough for 3 1/2 years except for a problem that occurred when I changed ironing board covers - so much steam went through the new cover that the resulting condensation damaged the finish on my hardwood floor.

I'm discarding the iron today because of dark scale-like debris that falls out of it. The scale problem started a few months ago and has become intolerable - I spend more time cleaning it up than I do ironing.

"Awesome!"
I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this iron and it was well worth it! This really is a great iron. I've never owned one that works this well...even with linen!

"Great iron for the price"
This iron replaced an very old one that I had, also from B&D. This one is light weight and has very effective steam. Everyday-type wrinkles in cotton come out easily. Tough ones need more steam and pressure. One slight problem is that the steam comes out in large drops from time to time, but not often. Generally not a problem, but owners should be aware if ironing very delicate fabrics. Other than that, it's a great iron!

What our customer's say!

"I make everyone buy this iron", I have had two Rowentas, one T-Fal among other irons and they were awful. The Rowents lasted one year before losing heat. So I went for the old standby "Black & Decker". I love this iron (I iron lots of stuff). Told my friends, my daughter, who told her friend and they all love it. I am looking to replace it, mine started leaking a bit, but it is old and I am definitely buying this again.

"Broke after 2 years of minimal use", I bought this iron two years ago and have used about 20 times. I was ironing drapes two days ago and started to smoke and smelled like burnt plastic. I unplugged it and tried again today but there was no heat. I need to check the warranty but am annoyed for the extra trouble of returning it or sending it to a landfill.

"Black and Decker Iron", I highly recommend this iron, I've had rowenta irons in the past and trust me this Black and Decker iron truly out rates the rowenta proffessional iron I used. I'm amazed at how the creases stay in the clothes even after a wash!

"Cord Problem", Because of the location of the cord, the one I have started shorting out if the cord isn't in a certain position. It is past the warranty. When I called the company, they informed me there is no authorized service in my area and I would have to replace it. I liked the iron except for this flaw.

"easy and powerful", after going through several irons that broke or quit working, i'm so glad i chose this one.

pros -

-easy digital control
-powerful heat that works but doesn't threaten delicate fabric
-finally an auto-off function that works how it's supposed to!! (it shut off once when i had to walk away from it for several minutes, but never shuts off while i'm using it)
-great steam functions (i don't do much bulk ironing, but it's perfect for those hard to smooth dress shirts)
-the price seemed reasonable (not as cheap as some, but much less than the really high end models)

cons -

-i have to refill the water cavity every time i use it?? honestly, as long as it doesn't give out on me like some of my old irons, i can't say anything bad about this one.

"Great iron", I love this iron. I had no idea how poorly my old one was until I started using this new purchase. I agree that it does use water quickly, I have to refill the water container more often but it is worth it for the wonderful steaming quality. My clothes actually look like I have pressed them now!

"former Rowenta owner", Used to own a very expensive Rowenta - had this iron for about a month now and love it so far. Gets plenty hot as my wife uses it for sewing.

"Works Great for the First Few Months.....", I got this iron as a gift. It worked great at first - it put out plenty of steam and made ironing clothes a breeze. But, after about 5 months, it started leaking water everywhere! I would not recommend purchasing this iron.

"A Very Good Iron for the Money", After using it for over a month on both laundry and sewing projects, I can recommend this iron as a very good value for its relatively low price. I like that the digital display tells you when it has reached the desired temperature, and I like that you can adjust the steam output independently of the temperature. I also like that the water reservoir has a sealing lid, so there is no risk of dumping water all over if you happen to tip the iron over. The steam blast is a great feature that I use all the time to blast out heavy creases in fabrics.

Now for the negatives: The digital display is hard to read; you have to be looking directly at it from straight on in order to tell what setting it is on, or if it is still heating up. This seems minor but it really does get annoying. Also, the steam blast feature doesn't work well on lower temperatures. I haven't had it drip or anything, but it will just give me one or two good blasts, then has to heat up again to give me more. There is only one button for adjusting the temperature. You push it to go from one up to two, etc., all the way up to seven, then it starts going back down; so if you are on the up-swing and you want to go, say, from four down to two, you have to cycle all the way up to seven and back down. Again, a minor point but it does get annoying. Finally, if you do a lot of sewing, the auto shut-off feature seems to be timed particularly short and I constantly found myself turning the iron back on (which, incidentally, changes the temperature setting, meaning you have to do the whole cycling through the temperatures thing again to get back to where you wanted it).

All in all, though, a very good iron for the price, and I don't regret the purchase.

"Great iron!", This iron is great! I love the digital screen. It heats up quick, puts out a good amount of steam, and gets the job done. Highly recommended!
