"Junk Made in Maylasia" Be aware that the Spode Christmas Tree you used to know is not avaialable anymore. It is now manufactured in Maylasia and China. Same price, but total junk! "This dinnerware is NOT made in England." When I received this set from Amazon, I was extremely disappointed to find that it is made in Malaysia, NOT England. I looked at numerous pieces in the Spode Christmas Tree line at Macy's, and discovered that almost all of them are made in Malaysia or China. I believe that Amazon has incorrectly listed the country of origin as England for a number of these pieces. At Macy's I compared the coloring of plates made in England with pieces from Malaysia and China. There are subtle differences, particularly in the color red. "Same price as Macy's" I own the same set and LOVE it. It is beautiful and my son always gets excited when he sees us pull them out. By the way I bought these at Macys for the same price that Amazon is selling them so doesn't really seem like such a great price for Amazon. "Create Christmas Memories" I loved the Spode Christmas plates I purchased! They were free of blemishes and were extremely well packaged. They arrived quickly and safely. The price was not remarkable, neither high nor low, although I could have purchased them in a discount store for less. But I would have sacrificed a better selection of items at the store. I will probably add to the set next year. "Nice" Good deal. Same quality as what you would buy in the store at a much more reasonable price. Wish I had bought two sets!

What our customer's say! "Paint Issues", On Thanksgiving we were shocked to open up our china storage cases and find that the green band on our Spode was chipping off. Mind you, these plates have been used only a few times over the past 12 years. We store them in cushioned cases, with bubble wrap between each plate. We have NEVER put them in the dishwasher. They have been treated and stored with great care as they were a gift from a deceased loved-one. Now on Amazon, I see that there is a clear problem. Too many people are reporting paint failures for this to be caused by dishwashers or improper care. The people that have had their sets for 20+ years - obviously there was a time when Spode took great care to produce quality china. Today however, you never know what you will get. The Spode name is no longer necessarily a sign of quality. What I am most surprised about is this comment on the Spode website: "Certain tableware patterns will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm." Certain? Which? The ones that are flaking apart on our holiday tables?? When lead paint chips/peels/flakes, lead dust can land anywhere. This is a serious health concern far more important than just our plates not looking good! E-mail Spode and let them know that this is unacceptable! "Beautiful and Functional", Purchased these last year and used them at Christmas. They made a gorgeous table setting and have not had any problems with them. They are very well made. I am buying another set so I can invite more guests! "Not mama's heirlooms ", It is a shame when a respected English china company sells out local workers & moves production to Asia. The 'new' china and flatware is ok for Xmas novelties, but the heirlooms passed down from mom to the kids is a thing of the past. The sad part is (like another reviewer mentioned) the list prices for this Asian junk are pretty steep. I suggest taking your chances buying the old English-made stuff on ebay & hoping it arrives as advertised. If successful you'll have 'the good stuff' instead of mass-produced, inferior quality nic-nacs. "Poor quality - made in Malaysia", These are similar to my Spode Christmas Tree dishes made in England - but very poor quality. There are bubbles in the finish and very definite spots on the back of the dishes where the glaze did not cover the clay. Very very disappointing. If you are looking for a cute set to serve at Christmas, these might be fine, but if you are expecting real English Spode, then do not order these. "Cheap Quality--Made in Maylasia", I tried to rate this product on Macy's several days ago, where I stated that this product is made in Maylasia and for potential buyers to be aware of that, but they did not publish my review. So, do know that Macy's only posts reviews that help boost their sales. Kudos to Amazon for publishing our reviews!! So, do be aware that the Spode Christmas Tree pattern is no longer manufactured in England (like it was for the past 60 years) and now made strictly in China and Maylasia. Spode touts itself as being this great British company with a tradition of making fine china, but their objective is now to make as much money off of naive American consumers forsaking quality and tradition. 
Read this reviews before You buy... "Spode Christmas China", Merchandise was received in good order, was shipped promptly and a good buy. "Not happy with quality", I ordered four dinner plates and was not happy with what I received. One plate had a minor scratch on the rim. One plate was made in Malaysia even though the description stated that the Spode dinner plates were of high quality and made England. And finally, the colors were a bit dull and murky compared to my Spode that I have in my own collection. These plates were said to be new and sold by Amazon. I returned all four plates and received a full refund. "christmas plates", The plates arrived in good condition and are what I needed to complete my service |
