Others say...
"It was great - at first." I've had this grinder for 10 months now. Use it often and always keep it very clean, including the grinding mechanism. At first it was great, grinding beans to a fine powder for espresso. Slowly but surely this "fine powder" is becoming more course with each time I use it. I just called DeLonghi customer service and was told that the burr grinders were probably worn out and that the machine cannot be repaired because they don't make parts for it. "DeLonghi Coffee Grinder" I am very disappointed in this coffee grinder. It has never worked properly and takes an inordinate amount of time to grind some coffee beans. It worked the first few times I used it and now it works occassionally - I think the coffee grinds interfere with the contacts. I have gone back to using a standard grinder and my DeLonghi grinder sits on the counter. "ARRRRGGH!!!" In 30 years, this is the absolute worst coffee grinder I have ever owned!! We bought this as a replacement for our 8 year old capresso which had seen a lot mileage and finally died. We thought we would try something new and different and frnakly bought this one because it looks cool...this is why I give it 1 star. Everything else about the grinder stinks out the wazzoo. I dont know what the guy before me was talking about in his review. He must have been confused with this machine. As you can read from others, this machine cannot perform! After 6 grinding sessions, less than 1 week, the machine died and now is a trendy looking piece of trash sitting on my countertop. We contacted customer service (7 calls so far) waiting 10 -15 minutes each time. We are told that the unit is on back order from the factory overseas. It has been 2 months of waiting with no help from Delonghi. Amazon should remove this product from their web site. Delonghi should trash the product and issue refunds. PLEASE, PLEASE, SAVE YOURSELVES FROM THIS DISASTER. Go to starbucks, heck, go to walmart, anything is better than this horrible device........I want my money back! "No Complaints After Several Years" I'm very surprised at how many negative reviews this has. Unless DeLonghi has substantially changed something about this model, I would highly recommend it. I've had mine for several years, and it's still going strong. I only grind beans for drip coffee - no espresso and no french press. Of course, you can't grind an exact measure of coffee using the strange dial settings (mine is labeled alphabetically). I just use a coffee scoop (one tbsp?) to measure the beans into the grinder, then use the scoop to measure the grounds. Two level tbsp. of beans make a tad more than three tbsp. of ground coffee. Any excess grounds stay sealed in the hopper. If you're using a bean with an extremely high oil content, you might sometimes have to shake or tap the grinder to move the beans down into the burr wheel. I have had the grinder stop working twice because the burr wheel needed to be cleaned. Since I've been running it almost every day for several years, I figure that's not too bad. I use a small bottle-type brush to clean it. Mine doesn't make any mess, and for the few seconds I use it every morning, it isn't too loud. All in all, I am very pleased with mine. "works great for about 2 months" truly terrible product. Great style, but no substance. I got one and loved it, so a month later I ordered one for a friend. Mine completely died at the 2nd month, then my friend's died right on the same schedule. Thing is fussy when it does work, jams and clogs frequently. Spend your money on anything but this--amazon should stop carrying this lousy product, and I would like my money back for both of them. I think blade vs. burr grinding is not distinguishable in taste, but I just wanted a grinder with a bean hopper. This one is terrible. Makes me certain to avoid all DeLonghi products in the future, too.

Shoplet offers this stuff with condition New, new for:
What our customer's say! "Broke after a few short months", I bought this grinder because I liked the size and it had decent reviews. Although it fit nicely into my small kitchen, it broke after after a few months. I bought the Cuisinart Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill after this grinder broke. The Cuisinart is still working perfectly after 2.5 years. "Good grinder, but not for fine grinds", We've been using this grinder for three years now and it's performed well BUT . . . The grinder consistently clogs up when either grinding oily dark roasts OR grinding coffee fine for espresso. The problem is that the coffee builds up at the opening between the burr and the receptacle for ground coffee. Once the opening is clogged, the coffee backs up until the timer finishes. I keep a toothpick handy to unclog the opening and have learned to process coffee in small batches. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that you can't turn the grinder off (other than by unplugging it). Once the timer is set it will run until the time runs out. So if you discover the unit is starting to clog there's nothing much you can do until it's finished. "Do NOT buy if you want to use it for espresso!", I'm serious! Avoid this grinder if you want a true "espresso grind". At first I thought something was wrong with this grinder for not being able to produce a grind finer than my old Capresso set to medium-coarse. Then I read reviews and talked to other users with the same complaint. Apparently this grinder, despite claiming an "espresso" grind, cannot muster anything finer than that satisfactory for drip. As a grinder for drip coffee, it's not that impressive, aside from its looks. The grind is coarse grinds mixed with near-powder. It's somewhat noisy but that depends on your tolerance levels. One other annoyance is the somewhat useless timer which can't be stopped once set in motion (without forcing it, which I wouldn't recommend). Since beans often won't feed properly, you have lags in time while you bang it on the counter to get the beans to feed. Overall, if you want a nice looking (depending on taste) grinder at a low price for drip or French press coffee only, then this could serve you. But did I forget to say - do NOT buy this grinder if you want to make espresso? LOL... "Grinder", Works great, use it for two separate batches every morning; one espresso and one medium grind. No problems in almost two years. "Lots of Needless "Features"", I've had this grinder for probably two years now. It still runs, getting used about twice a day at most. I will look for a different brand when this one goes. The top lid is hard to lift off with the formed little handle grip. You really have to use your fingertips to lift it off by the rim. All the number/letter combinations on the control dial are stupid and meaningless. All you have to really do is put in the amount of beans you want in the hopper, and turn on the "grind" switch (in addition to the coarseness setting). Who cares about trying to "time" the cycle with the "amount" of beans being added?? I don't want to have to have a math degree just to grind my beans! Dump 'em in, turn on the switch, and when it's done it's done. If it is still "running" when the last bean has gone through, just pull the cord and let the spring wound timer come to a halt by itself in a few seconds. Also, the passage hole between the hopper and your final dispenser is quick to become clogged. Maybe all burr grinders are this way..this is my first. When you lift the plastic lid off the ground cup dispenser, the meaningless swivel plastic piece on the top likes to slip our and spill fine coffee dust over your countertop. I have no idea what this separate little piece is supposed to accomplish, other than to make your bean grinding experience more annoying. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Not better than a blade grinder", I've used this grinder for a few months, on loan from a friend. While it does grind coffee beans, it's loud and the grind quality is very inconsistent. Decent enough for drip coffee, but I get lots of sludge in a french press. I ground 35 grams of beans on the drip setting (middle of the selection range). I sifted the ground beans through a fine mesh screen which only allows powder to go through. From 35 grams, 15 grams were pulverized to a fine powder (which causes overextraction of bitterness, etc). From the remaining 20 grams, I estimate that 5 grams were larger-than-desired chunks (which cause underextraction). This means that only 15 out of 35 grams were in the size range desired. The grinder also clogs frequently. Either spend more money to get a better burr grinder for french press or spend less and get a blade grinder (e.g. Bodum C-mill for $20) which will give you the same (or better) grind quality for drip coffee. "It's OK, but...", Got this to replace my Mr. Coffee grinder after hearing how great a Burr is compared to a blade type. It worked for the first few grinds, but has some drawbacks. 1) Does not feed beans correctly into the burr blades. Takes a slight "shake" of unit for it to operate. Now this was on Tully's beans. Worked Ok once in a while with other brands of whole bean coffee. 2) Choice of grind setting is incorrect on unit. I'm in agreement with others who have posted this. Tried many different settings and it was consistent in grinding a bean to dust, which is fine for espresso but not good for a drip brew. I ended up getting a Cuisinart Burr grinder at Costco after giving up on the DeLonghi. And it was less expensive to boot. Maybe it'll do better on whole pepper...who knows. Steer clear in my opinion. Waste of $ on this purchase. "Abysmal!", This was absolutely awful. We bought this for light use in an office, the thing worked great for about a week. After that nothing but problems. We had to constantly clean it, the blades refused to grind the coffee and had to basically disassemble it everytime we wanted to ground coffee every morning and afternoon. We got great at using thin knives to clean out the mechanism. Please don't waste your money on this. Steer as far clear from this as you can. "Not Good for Espresso.", If you're thinking about grinding coffee for an espresso machine with this grinder: forget it! The finest ("espresso") grind is coarse enough for drip coffee! I even disassembled the thing to see if I can manually adjust it, but no such luck. By the way, I also noticed the componenets are cheaply made while I had the machine open. I am giving it one star because I can't give it less, and also because it looks cool, but it will ook even better in my garbage can tonight ;-) "Some Flaws, Some Virtues", I have been using this grinder for several months and I basically like it: it's a dependable, usable machine. It has some flaws. The coarsest setting, as several reviewers note, is suitable for a fine drip grind, not for cafetiere-type presses -- unless you like your coffee pretty muddy. The plastic receptacle does develop some static cling, which I don't mind; you can just brush it out. The idea of storing beans in the top and then dialing a number to get a certain amount of ground coffee is to me silly (the top is so small that you have to transfer beans from some other jar to the top every day anyway, practically). But the dial feature allows for hands-off grinding. This is the descendant of some very sturdy Delonghi machines, which are similar to older (and nearly indestructible) Waring grinders of the past. Nothing's as good as it was in the past, it seems, but this grinder is suitable for 21st-century use. ![]() |
