"Wonderful"
Honeywell HW-628 Twin Window Fan
I am very satisfied with this product. I love the cool night breeze it brings in from the outside and in the daytime it takes out the hot air. I haven't had to install my window air-conditioner yet this year. I would like to have about 3 more.

"Best of 3 window fans we own"
I bought a Holmes HAWF2030 (very wimpy fans - this one is not recommended) a few years ago and then got a Holmes HAWF2043 soon afterwards - the 2043 is much better, creating a stronger breeze. We use the fans to blow cool air from outside into the apartment in the evening. Since the 2030 doesn't really do the job worth a darn, I purchased this Honeywell HW-628 and it's far better than both the Holmes fans as far as how much air it moves. Since we've only used it one night, I can't comment on durability, but all three fans are made of plastic and of similar quality. The only downside of the Honeywell is that the tabs to lock the side panels in place are in the back, which is funky. And though it fits in the window with the screen, it's a tight fit in our window and ALMOST pushes the screen out. We're keeping the Holmes HAWF2043 (have had it a few years and it works perfectly well) for one of the bedrooms and using this new Honeywell for the other.

"Does it work?"
Don't drop it, don't get it wet. It does work. They aren't all that powerful. I don't run them on high and they are saving me a lot of money as compared to using an air conditioner. If the outside temp is higher than the inside I turn it off or blow out with that fan. If the outside is cooler I blow in. It does cool off a lot at night where I live partly due to a creek so this is working. Ymmv.

"The queitist fan I've seen"
The fan is very well built and sturdy, plus it is light so it's easy to carry around and move between windows. It is also very quiet, so I don't have to jack on the volume on my TV during summer nights.

"Very good unit"
Works well for both getting the hot air out of your room and for pulling in the cool air. I have a similar 2-fan model by Feature Comforts, but the fan on this Honeywell is a bit stronger. Just be careful about dropping it -- mine took a tumble out of a window and some of the plastic parts inside broke off. It's still operates as well as ever, but I have to be careful that the broken pieces don't get caught in the fan.

What our customer's say!

"Good value for your money.", This fan moves a lot of air without being excessively noisy. It is not, however,"whisper quiet."

"2 years and still going", 2 years and it's still going. I have set it up in my kitchen window starting in spring and take it down before winters arrival. When the AC is on I simply cover the fans with 2 paperplates so as not to lose any of the AC. Granted, the paper plates many not be so pretty but it does the job.

When the weather is a bit cooler outside but still hot indoors, this fan does the job I personally bought it for! I have been asked a few times whether I had the AC on when in fact it was just this little fan doing it's thing. All in all I am very pleased and hope to get many more 'cooler' years with it.

"Saves me money", I have been using this fan for several weeks now and am very pleased. I live in a city and the summers can get very hot, but just blasting this fan at night keeps my room cool and comfortable. ALl the dials are easy to use, and although I have yet to clean it, it seems like it shouldn't be too hard. The only trouble I have is with the expanders. They are hard to get used to and it can be a challenge to adjust them to the width of the window, but once you get it down it's not that bad. Overall I love it and am glad I didn't get the bionaire which costs twice as much.

"Good Fan But Not Quiet", I bought this same fan many years ago. It was very quiet but not much power. This new fan I just purchased has a lot more power of airflow but is very loud for me, even on low. I do like the features this fan has to offer. Thermostat controls, reverse exhaust, and directional airflow. It also comes with a mounting bracket in case you need to mount it sideways in your window. The older model came with little detachable feet to stand it up by itself but not this one..too bad. I'm keeping it. Really cools off my room.

"2 1/2 out of 3 fans survive ", 3 units purchased September 1, 2006. Two are still doing the job while one developed a problem with one of the two fans. One side still works, the other side the fan motor will turn slowly and will no longer start even with a nudge.

Nice removable grill that allows easy cleaning of grill and fan blades. We have kitties so the inevitable wads of hair that accumulate must be cleaned off.

Nothing to compare these fans with but they do seem to be fairly quiet on the two lower speeds. I'm debating replacing the one fan with the same unit.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"A little disappointed", I ordered this fan based on the reviews here at Amzon. It is a well made product but I felt that the airflow was inadequate, especially when the fan was blowing air from inside to outside. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I ended up returning it.

"airflow!", right off the bat, i feel i should mention that the air-moving ability of this fan is maybe six to eight times stronger on the low setting than the high setting on the Holmes Window Fan w/ Accutemp Plus, HAWF3095-U, which i reviewed last week. since part (or arguably all) of a fan's responsibilities involve moving air, i think this fan is the bee's knees.

which brings me to my next point. bees. it sounds like what you might hear if you were standing by your front door while there was a swarm of bees on the porch. a muted general buzzing. not a rattling or a defective kind of buzz, rather a round, soft sound, but noticeable. i might look elsewhere if this were for the bedroom, den, library, or study, if i had any of those rooms, although on low it's not too bad. i'm using it in the kitchen, though, where i expect it will perform admirably as an exhaust fan and where noise isn't as much an issue. it has already accomplished the goal of creating airflow and sucking the living room's air conditioning into the kitchen, cooling it right down. a longtime goal finally achieved! i really like that you can rotate the output vents (or intake vents, as the case may be) to control the direction of airflow. a simple touch but a nice one.

this, in combination with our new samsung air conditioner (which, incidentally, is quieter than this window fan!), has in twenty minutes' time transformed my city apartment from a stagnant cement greenhouse into a breezy atrium. i think, finally, that this summer i'll be able to deal with the heat all this asphalt collects, and that i'll actually feel civilized while i'm about the house.

as to cleaning, i just took down the holmes model which i cleaned maybe a month ago, and which is again already covered in city-schmear. i'm looking forward to being able to simply pop off the fan covers on this model, and wipe them down.

definitely recommended!

"Honeywell Twin Fan", This is the next best thing to air conditioning. Put it in a window on one side of your house or apartment and open a window on the other end. It will pull outside air through your house and remove any stale air or smoke. It will also pull the cool air outside through your house with ease. With the (2) 360 degree directional fans, point them in any direction for controlled air flow. Both Fans are reverseable, have 3 speeds, and the fan also has a thermostat.

"This is a Great Fan", This is a beautifully made, sturdy and powerful fan. Really kicks out at even low fan speed. I had a holmes that didn't do as well on high.
There is some noise involved but I find it to be a rather pleasant "white noise" sort of situation.
Now as to the "fatal design flaw" one person wrote about
The dimensions are clearly stated (24.1 x 6.5 x 12.6 inches). I have a standard window and this fan presented no fit problems whatsoevever. It fits very nicely in the gap between the inner windowsill and the screen (yes, the screen is still in) . I adjusted the sides before I put it in the window....no big deal.
I would recommend this fan to anyone. I couldn't be more pleased

"Works well; a bit noisy; strange design", This fan works quite well, blowing fresh air in, out or both at once. Controls and function are well designed and the fans are very efficient for their small size.

Drawbacks: Doesn't fit the window snugly nor does it have any kind of screening. This allows bugs in around and through the fan (unless its blowing outward). Also, the latches which hold the expanding sections in place are on the OUTSIDE of the unit. This makes it very awkward to install and remove because one must reach over the fan while holding the expansion section in place (which springs back into the fan body if released) while sliding the locks on the outside of the unit to lock the expansion units in place. It's a poor design in my opinion.

Finally, it's noisy. Not terribly noisy but it sounds like a couple of small model airplane motors when running on high.

However, it does the job well when you want to ventilate a room.
