Others say...
"Joyce Chen tea pot" I have researched other teapots and this one seems to be the best of the ones I have found so far. My wife and I drink tea everyday. The only drawback is that it is ceramic and therefore brittle. We have purchased 3 of them because we broke the other 2. "Good Kettle, No Handle Problem" I've had this kettle for about three months, and it worked fine till I boiled the water away accidentily. It lasted longer than any other metal kettle I've had, which always start to peel after 3-4 months use. The handle slipping is easily solved, and its never slippe out on me. All you have to do in bend the wire up to form a loop, which stops it from slipping out, as it tells to in the manual. "good teakettle, breakable, no whistle" I like this teakettle. This is my second one. The first one was broken when it arrived at my home. I used the replacement daily for almost 2 years, until it recently broke as I was filling it with water at the sink. That is the payoff for ceramic over metal. I wouldn't trust ordering a ceramic item by mail though. Also, the metal strips that attach the bamboo handle to the teakettle are flexible - which was good on the few occassions that I felt it necessary to get the handle out of the way for thorough cleaning of the pot - but I always wondered when they would break from the unbending and then rebending. They never did. The pot broke before the strips did. All in all, I would buy it again, though. I'd say that boiling water in ceramic is preferred over the metal. "Watch the handle!" I agree with the previous reviewers. The style is quite sleek and the ceramic, earthen material eliminates the metallic taste of the water. However, the handle is a huge problem and you have to be extremely careful when pouring the pot. I made a hot of tea only filling 1/2 way full and put pouring it the handle can apart from the kettle and smash went the kettle, leaving me standing with only the handle in my hand. Thankfully I was pouring this over the sink or I would've suffered quite a burn. Buyer beware! "Beautiful design but a very basic design flaw" The teakettle has a very fundamental design flaw. If you look at the picture you would notice that the handle is not securly tied or welded to the kettle. The handle has just ordinary wires that goes through the holes in the teakettle and not very secure. It can very easily come off. Yes you can tie with some other wire and make it secure but I did not know that. And it does not ask in the manual to do so. I filled it up completly with water one day and put it on the stove. After the water was boiling, I picked it up to pour water into the tea pot. Before I could reach the tea pot, the wires gave up slipped through the holes and the kettle came off while I was still holding the kettle. It fell on the kitchen floor and broke and water was all over my feet. Both my feet burned(imagine the water boiling point). Luckily I had bought it from a local stores(bed bath beyond) and I was able to return the broken kettle. I explained it to the store manager and he brought in the new one to verify that the flaw I was explaining. He agreed and promissed me that he will contact the headquaters. This was a couple of months ago and that store is still selling it. Perhaps they would keep selling it until someone sue then. The kettle is nice looking but I cannot give more then 1 star becuase of its design flaw.

Joyce Chen 2-Quart Stovetop Ceramic Tea Kettle
What our customer's say! "Best Teapot I've Ever Had", We LOVE this teapot, have had it for 2 years...We have a Staub teapot as well, and while we love the aesthetic of that pot, we far prefer to use this one. Contrary to other comments, we've NEVER had a problem with it, you just have to use common sense: you have to bend the wires at the end of the handle into notches to properly fit the pot - there has never been a danger of the pot coming loose; don;t fill the hot pot with cold water; and once the water has boiled, it does help to take the lid off (with a hot pad) for a couple of seconds to let steam out - it prevents excessive sputtering from the spout. I've bought 2 now for gifts and the reviews from those friends have been the same as mine - and ceramic is truly the best for tea. "A "Real" Tea Kettle", This tea kettle is by far the best stovetop tea kettle. Versatile and heavy duty, water comes to a boil quickly and retains its heat long after the burner has been turned off. Best part: tea tastes like tea. No metallic taste and no rust over time! I have had my kettle for a number of years. It has withstood the abuse of being banged around in the kitchen sink without a single chip or nick. Great investment! "Dangerous Joyce Chen Kettle!!", This kettle is very dangerous and should be taken off the market immediately!! There is a serious design flaw in the kettle. The wire apparatus attached the handle to the kettle is not secure. Less than two months after I purchased it, the handle gave way with the wire slipping that held the kettle to the handle. It dropped full of boiling, scalding water, breaking as it hit the counter and floor, coating me with scalding water on the way. The front of both my legs have second degree burns with large blisters and broken skin. I shudder to think what would have happended to my two pug dogs had they been close to me as they usually are. The force and heat would have been enough to blind and/or kill them. This pot should be taken off the market for safety reasons until the design flaw is fixed. I bought it because it was a lovely kettle made of safe ceramic. Please don't risk the purchase. This design flaw was noted in the review dated August 2006 made on this site by another customer. Unfortunately, the kettle was still being sold in 2008, two years later. "Ceramic TeaKettle", Joyce Chen 2-Quart Stovetop Ceramic Tea Kettle This an incredible little (2 Quart) tea pot! - It is ceramic and can be put directly on a stove burner and heat transfer is unbelievable. - heats water very quickly! - It's great to look at, very well designed, sturdy and dense. - (Just don't drop it on the tile floor!) "Dangerous Product ", As much as I liked this teapot for the first year after I bought it, I must give it one star (apparently zero is not an option on this form). Similar to a few other reviews, while I was pouring hot water the metal sliped out of the hole sending the tea kettle crashing to the floor and boiling water all over my leg. Also, the ceramic broke when it hit the floor, presenting another danger. I just now contacted the company via their online form to ensure they are aware of the problem. Thanks, Joyce Chen, for the permanent scar on my thigh! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "fantastic tea kettle !", This is really a tea kettle, and not a tea pot! The 2 quart size is excellent for boiling water, and this is the only ceramic tea kettle that can be used on gas or electric stoves. I like this alot, because I have very sensitive taste buds. If someone used a metal tea kettle to boil water to make tea, I can taste it. A metallic taste will always ruin your tea. So will bad water (always use very clean spring water or filtered water). Use a ceramic tea kettle to boil water and there's no metallic taste. Fantastic kettle !!! Ceramic didn't crack at all after being boiled for a year and half. After boiling water, remember not to put cold water in it. I just turn it upside down on the dish rack to cool it after each use. I use this exclusively for boiling water (I NEVER put tea inside it). Thank you Joyce Chen. My tea is SOOOOO much more enjoyable now. ![]() |
