"Mind was Changed. ." Had seen this and thought just another gadget. . Then I visited home and found my 86 year old father--who does not cook--using it and loving it. I have since bought several and given them as gifts as well and keeping my own busy. "It works as discribed, but lots of waste" This did slice pineapple up in neat little rings with little mess or bother. It looked like it came right out of a can. The taste is better. However there is a lot of wasted pineapple left behind. I would like one that made a larger sized cut for larger pineapples. "Great pineapple slicer!" I have never used a device like this one, but after all of the great reviews, I thought I would give it a try. It does work pretty slick. I thought it was a little hard to get started, but once you get going, it works great! We love having fresh pineapple now. Well worth the money. "Perfect pineapple slices" This pineapple slicer is great if you are having a party and want your pineapple to look perfectly sliced and displayed nicely. It works and the slices come out perfect. The only drawback is that you have to eat the pineapple that day as it just doesn't keep like it does when you slice it with a knife, where it will keep for a couple of weeks refrigerated. "Works amazingly well" Results in some wasted pineapple if you don't cut it out of the pineapple, bu consistenty delivers cut pineaple in seconds. It really could not be simpler. Product works as promised and well worth the price.

What our customer's say! "eeehhh...", Perhaps it was me, perhaps it was my pineapples, but something wasn't working according to Hoyle. I had some difficulty getting it to go through the pineapple. (Yes, they were ripe!). Also, there was a lot of pineapple left in the pineapple shell for this frugal old gal, so that meant some tedious knife work to harvest the remainder. Finally, this device caused lots of wasted juice. Regretfully, my opinion, even though I am the minority, is to use a knife in the first place. I rate this pineapple slicer eeehhh... "Our luaus will never be the same!", I bought this gadget to make pineapple cups for a recent luau my friends threw and it worked great. The pineapple shell held a large amount of fruity drink and also provided us with tons of wonderful, eye-free flesh. The only complaint is the handle can pop off if pulled too hard, so use a delicate touch and have fun! "LOVE IT!!", This item is great! I love fresh pineapple, but not the time it takes to cut it up the conventional way. This made it sooo easy! It's crazy how simple it is. The first time I used it, I thought I was wasting the part closest to the rind, but upon further inspection I found that it was the hard part that would usually end up mixed in with my good pieces and make me mad. To the reviewer who said it made their pineapple mushy, I found that when that happened, I was pressing down too hard...easily remedied. "Slightly hard to use", Although this item works I cannot see it working for a very long time. It is very hard to insert and turn and to pull out the pineapple takes some muscle. It comes in two pieces and the plastic handle top does not look like it will last long. I would try and find one that is more durable possibly made out of stainless steel. "Company Won't Stand Behind Poorly Manufactured Product", I used my Vacu Vin about three times before the handle broke off, and contacted the company through their website about a replacement handle. After two weeks I received no response and emailed them a second time. This time I received a hasty response as follows, "I have responded back to you 2 weeks ago and told you that we do not have extra pineapple slicer handles nor do we offer a warranty on this item." As far as the three times that I was able to use the slicer, it sometimes worked nicely, and sometimes mangled the pineapple. There was always a lot of wasted fruit with this device since it is made to accommodate smaller pineapples as well as larger. Save your money on this uni-tasker and practice your knife skills. UPDATE: After notifying them of my intention to post a review with my experience, I received an email offering to replace the device. 
Read this reviews before You buy... "Awesome", A must have kitchen item, A nice easy and clean way to get into the pineapple. Love it. "AWESOME!!", This thing is seriously the best invention EVER for pineapples. I had some concern with the quality of it (since it's plastic), but it cuts through tough pineapples with no problem at all. You just barely press down and twist and it creates perfect circular slices! There are two problems that I have with it, however. First, it still gets messy because a lot of juice comes up and spills over the flat top, so you still need to do this over a sink or something (but it is easy to hold the pineapple with one hand and twist the slicer with the other). Second, I would suggest to picture how deep you need to go by holding the slicer up to the pineapple before you start cutting. The slicer cuts through the first couple of inches with no problem at all, then towards the bottom it gets tougher. It takes awhile to figure out just how far down you need to go to avoid poking a hole through the bottom or leaving too much uncut pineapple at the bottom. All in all, it is one of my favorite kitchen utensils. I bought several more to give away as presents as well. "Gadgety but Awesome", When you think of specialized kitchen gadgets, most people think...just another thing to store. That's true here, but the redeeming factor is thing thing works unbelievably well. I was worried I would need to read the instructions close, but really you just top the chop off. Stick it on and crank it down. At the end you simply pull it out, and you get a beautiful fresh pineapple rings. Amazing. It is all plastic, which means it won't rust in a dishwasher or letting drip dry, and also means it's quite safe to throw in a drawer. "Will Never Eat Caned Pineapple Again", I love fresh pineapple; however, as we all know it is messy, time consuming to process, and, a pain to peel and core. Therefore, because of my busy schedule I was left with just canned pineapple. Last year I discovered this tool and have not eaten caned pineapple since. You just slice the top off a pineapple, place this tool on top and twist your way down, like a corkscrew, to the bottom, then pull up. You get PERFECT pineapple rounds, with no mess, no skinning, and, no coring. And best of all it takes the same amount of time it would to use a can opener on a tin. I cannot recommend this product more. I hope you all will enjoy it as much as I do. "BEST KITCHEN TOY EVER!", THIS IS MY FAVORITE ITEM IN THE KITCHEN (except for my new oven!) I can take a fresh pineapple and have it sliced and the tool cleaned in less than 2 minutes. YUM!!! |
