Others say...

"Even low-carb yogurt is a possibility!"
If anyone out there prefers to limit carbohydrate intake (READ: low carb dieters, diabetics, etc.), and you miss the taste of good yogurt, look no further! I bought this to give to my stepmother, and she got batch after batch of runny, no-good lowfat yogurt. So I started using it, without much hope. I use Hood's low carb milk alternative, and I wanted to add some heavy cream or half and half to make it a little more substantial.

I've found that the use of half and half GREATLY improves the yogurt, but heavy cream simply leads to a layer of butter on top of the yogurt. Half and half makes the yogurt creamier and more substantial and gives plenty of milk base for the yogurt culture to munch on. In general, about 4 parts Hoods low carb milk alternative to 1 part half and half plus yogurt starter culture leads to a really nice recipe. I also like to leave mine in as long as 24 hours.

I have a feeling this is going to be re-gifted to me for my birthday, which is perfectly okay with me. I'm a little glad my stepmom couldn't make it work--now maybe I'll have one!

Warning: the middle jar gets hotter than the other jars, and it almost gets hot enough for me to be concerned about whether the yogurt culture is still alive. But, then again, I also let mine go for as much as a whole day, so maybe that's the problem.

"Makes Great Yogurt Easily"
This machine is simple and dependable. I had success the first time I made yogurt...which was so encouraging! All you do is heat 1 quart of milk to 185 degrees, then let it cool to 115 degrees, add a 1/4 cup of powdered milk and about 2 tablespoons of starter (store bought yogurt), then pour it into the great little glass jars and put them in the yogurt machine and put the lid on the machine. Then I let it sit for about 5 and a half hours and voila! Excellent, creamy, delicious yogurt! I had no idea making yogurt was so easy...or satisfying :) It is so much tastier than store bought yogurt...and CHEAPER!

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it does not have an ON/OFF switch or a timer...both of which would be very handy.

I plan to feed yogurt to my baby every other day and this machine will make that an inexpensive and tasty adventure!

"No more artifical color and flavor!"
I have been so irritated by the added artifical color and flavor in the yogurt bought from supermarket. Now I just make fresh yogurt everyday for my kids. Just add milk(organic!) and yogurt with 5:1 to 4:1 ratio, a little bit sugar(will be too sour if not), leave in the yogurt make overnight. A little trick I found myself: use the milk directly from refrigirator instead of heating to luckwarm, it takes ~12 hours total so it is very easy to arrange time.

"Girmi JC70 Yogurt maker"
I found the yogurt maker easy, clean and convenient to use. It was unobtrusive in my home and did the job very nicely.Good price too.

"it's good"

What our customer's say!

"Very good", Th maker is good, the timer doesn't work but it doesn't interfere with the job. Leave it extra hours, around ten,and with a little honey the yogurt is a feast.

"Need an Instruction Manual", I recently purchased this yogurt maker, but the instructions were missing. If anyone could submit a manual on this site that would be great. Or, let me know where to find one.

"It's not even a good doorstop", Worked fine for a few weeks, but now doesn't even heat up. I see that it's discontinued ... yeah, because it's a piece of junk! Wrote to Amazon ... they ignored me. I might as well throw it out. I even bought the extra jars. Three-year warranty? Yeah, right. I'll never buy from this company again.

"Not sure why it doesn't always work", When this machine works, it is great. I've made fruit yogurt and plain with it. But sometimes, I just can't get the yogurt to gel. I'd still recommend this product for the times it does work. It makes eating yogurt more convenient (and more fun).

Update: I've recently been using this very frequently and finding that the yogurt does gel more if I leave it in longer (>10 hours)

"Easy to use ", Pros: easy to use and well designed/made for a simple machine (It is made in Italy - not China)
Cons: the yogurt is kind of watery compared with those you get from grocery store but I guess it is normal for all home made yogurt

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great but", I love the yogart maker but the recipe that is included is not the best. Find a recipe that takes milk plus some additional powered milk to give more texture.

"For Earth Mother types who have no time....", Well, I wasn't sure I wanted to fool with making my own yogurt, but with all the preservatives and the only all- natural, no preservative yogurts are baby yogurt (in the Southeast, anyway) I thought I would try my hand. Its definitely low-tech , if I can do it....I boil 4 cups of whole milk in a 4-cup measuring cup in the microwave for 8-10 minutes and test the temp to 180 degrees. I scrap off any milk caisin "foam" that skims the surface and let the milk sit on the stovetop til it tests cool at 108-112 degrees F. (This is all on the box of yogourmet starter) When ready, I stir in 5-6 tablespoonfuls of powered milk (to thicken it up) the small packet of starter and stir. I pour this into clean jars that come with the little machine after I have put about 2 tablespoonfuls of blackberry or strawberry all-fruit preserves in the jars. Once topped out with the milk mix I plug it in and 6-8 hours later you take the jars out, put on the lids and stuff in the fridge. Several hours of cooling and thickening later its all GOOD EATTING....! Maybe a little less thick than store-bought but with the powdered milk its not much...Very close. But more lactobacilis culture that you can really taste and no ingredients you can't pronounce...Plus you can get away from banana puree flavor of the baby stuff....:>)
As far as the timer is concerned, its sort of somebody's idea of a joke, but I don't use it anyway, and the less comlicated the more likely I am to use it.
The only hastle is I guess the waiting and testing the temperature of the milk a few times with the kitchen thermometer...but thats a no-brainer...Haven't tried to use whole plain yogurt yet, why keep it when I can have these little packets in a drawer to use whenever I want?
If you use whole milk, however, these jars of generous and you are getting a good many calories if you are watching closely.
I am very happy with this purchase and so is my husband.

"Not as good as I expected.", My first reaction when I saw the timer was: "what timer?" It simply is for show, and for timing. Also, it seemed to take more than 12 hours for the yogurt to solidify; plus, there was too much liquid at the top. Overall, I am not satisfied. Now I know why it is on closeout.

"Great yogurt... if you know the tricks", I bought this yogurt maker several months ago, and was frustrated with watery yogurt. I tried boiling the milk. I tried different brands of yogurt as starter. I even tried different brands of milk, even organic milk. Nothing worked, and I was frustrated that I needed to search for plain yogurt as starter each time I wanted to make yogurt. I bought a machine like this so I would not have to buy yogurt all the time.

Now I love it. The two tricks:

1) Add 3 tbs milk powder to the recipe. It sets up like nothing and tastes better to boot. Milk powder last years and costs next to nothing.

2) Buy a quart of plain yogurt and freeze it in ice cube trays. Store the cubes in the freezer and use for starter. They last months (so far) in the freezer.

Too bad these tricks are not in the instructions. It would have saved me headaches and earned it more stars.

"Why buy yogurt ever again!", After my exposure to European style yogurt with honey and fresh fruit, I was really excited to leave the world of Yoplait behind. Then I found out the price ranges for good European style yogurt. It was definitely going to qualify as a luxury item. Despite the skepticism of my husband, who understandably thought this was going to be cabinet clutterer, I invested in this machine in hopes that I would be able to enjoy European style yogurt again. I promised him I'd use it at least seven times (thus making up the cost of the machine). Well, we've had it for three weeks and haven't stopped using it. It's definitely low tech, but who cares when it's so easy to use? Milk whisked with plain yogurt, and ten hours later I have a wonderful new batch of fresh creamy yogurt. Now both my husband and I are enjoying yogurt with fruit preserves, honey, and anything else we want to put in it. I'm absolutely ecstatic, and I'm probably going to have to buy refill jars soon.
