"E. Emerson Tool Customer Service?????" 6/22/08 Ordered this item on April 24th 2008 and it was promptly received. Upon examination I noticed that it would not work. Returning the item was not an option, so I looked up e emerson tool online and was happy to find a useful website with exploded views of their tools. It was obvious that the tool was missing a part. An e-mail was sent and I waited.... On may 22nd I received a reply stating that they were short handed and they were sorry that it took so long to get back to me. I was assured that the part was now in the mail.... As of 6/22/08 no part has arrived, I have sent a couple of e-mails to emerson in the last few weeks and have received no reply. Most small companies I deal with try to ensure that customer service is taken care of quickly. I have no problem allowing for a company being "short handed". But, this low level of service is unusual, especially during difficult times. A satisfied customer will tell a couple of people, an unsatisfied customer will tell everyone they meet! The tool looks like it might work well, I have no way of knowing. And do not plan to try their other items. "50 inch clamp guide" This item is easy to use and works well. I use it primarily as a straight edge guide for my router. It is stiff enough to withstand a fair amount of lateral pressure without deforming thus producing a straight cut. The T track is handy for adding stops when making repetitive cuts. I should have bought this years ago. "wonderfull" Works fantastic...... It clamps very tightly with no side movment. I have tryed every way possible over the last 30 rears, but this beats them all. Well worth the money.... Buy it! you wont be sorry. I will spring for the 8 footer next. Lee "Great for wood working" I bought them for my husband and they were exactly what he wanted and needed them for. He's happy...I'm happy. "Good straight edge!" I have his and the older style clamp that has the clamping lever underneath. This clamp is much easier to use. I will purchase a 24" unit in the near future.

What our customer's say! "Worth the money in the time it saves.", I purchased this a few weeks ago (from Amazon) with the wide jaws because of the recommendations here. I agree buy the jaw set, in fact I think they should just be sold as one unit. I am very pleased and did not have any problems using the tool. It sure beats using a board and clamps. The distance from the edge of my saw's baseplate to the blade is not a nice even number. I made a little story stick (which I tend to misplace between projects) for this as I never remember the setting and would have to re-measure. I know there are many ways to do this but I like to do as few adjustments and measurements as possible. I did not buy the saw guide but was curious if it would eliminate or simplify the alignment step. I attended a woodworking show this past weekend and the gentleman from Emerson had a booth and was demonstrating the different clamps. I stopped by to see if they had the saw guide. However after watching a few minutes I realized I did not need one, at least to ensure alignment. All you have to do is attach a piece of hardwood to the wide jaws that is wider than the distance to your saws blade and then cut off the excess. You now have an alignment tool calibrated to your saw. I like to think if I used it a few more times I would have thought of that but I give credit where credit is due. But watching the demo gave me many more ideas of how these clamps can save time and increase accuracy in my work. You can make other jigs and attach them to the clamp using inexpensive T-bolts that will fit in the tracks on top. I was so impressed that I bought a few more at the show. I also learned that Emerson is a small company and I like supporting these types of businesses. And yes when you do deal with a small business sometimes you do run into problems with less than excellent response times. As the owner of one myself (I am the CEO and the guy who takes out the trash) I know all customers are important but you can't always respond the way everyone would like every time. I hope customers understand this and realize that if we don't have these small startup companies we will be missing out on a lot of new an innovating things. I also hope the reviewer who gave the poor rating has resolved the difference and will give them another chance. "I like the Tru-Grip stuff a bit better", Decent design, but it doesn't always clamp very straight. Therefore, you end up with a less that squarecut. I wouldn't use this for cutting down the length of a door if you're going for square. Decent for the price, though I'd rather pay more for the Tru-grip models. "Best Guide I Ever Bought", I have been thinking about getting one of these for a long time. I finally ordered the 50" & 24" the 50" came today & it is the best guide I have ever bought. I will definitly get the 99" & 36". "Good for ripping", This is great for ripping 4'x8' sheets of plywood. Ignore any of the recommended accessories except for the wide jaws. The saw and router guides are really cheap and you really don't need them anyway. "Flexing and other issues", The product is useful, and speeds up panel cuts (etc), but it is far from perfect. When cutting a sheet of 4-foot-wide 3/4" plywood, it clamps securely, but the guide can flex significantly if you push too hard in the middle, resulting in a cut that is not straight. The less wide the wood, the less of an issue this is. I was able to push mine more than the reported 1/16" in the middle when used across a sheet of plywood (4'). To me, ANY amount of flexing is a problem, because it is inevitable that I have to push the tool against the edge while cutting. However, use of the optional tool guides presumably reduces the problem, because when using them you don't have to push against the guide. Another reviewer suggested clamping a piece of the wood to support the middle of the straight-edge. A good solution, but it takes away from the instant-setup convenience this tool is said to offer. Years ago I bought an aluminum straight edge called Cutters Edge II. I can't find it in google so I assume it is no longer available. It was substantially more rigid than this one, and it came in two 4' lengths which could be joined together. However, its clamping system was much less convenient than this one. I have not tried it yet, but I suspect this guide would not work well for very thin sheets, such as plywood less than 1/4". Because the clamps rely on edge-to-edge force, thin sheets have the potential to bow with this kind of clamping force applied. The All-in-One Clamp Guide seems to be best suited to 90-degree cuts, yet they do not have any means of ensuring that the cut will be square. There is a squaring attachment (wide jaws), but measuring and/or checking with a square will still be required. I only just learned about the "Ultra" model that is 100 inches long. That's the tool I really need (for ripping sheets), and I wish I had bought it instead. Being wider, it should flex less, however with its longer span, it is more subject to flexing. But it's expensive, and I could easily build my own jig, albeit using clamps that are not as quick to use, but with immeasurable flexing. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "A-50 Clamp Guide", Great addition to my workshop, wish I had one a long time ago. Convenient to use making cutting and routing easier and with greater accuracy and control. "All in One Clamp is it worth it?", All in One Clamp, is it worth the asking price? I am a finish carpenter by trade and a designer as a pass time. I found this straight edge to be rugged and well made! On the down side I would like too see even less plastic in its design increasing its durabuility. My point on worth, yes to the All in One Clamp A-50-50, but to be honest I truely think their longer models are a bit excessive in price, which is shy-ing me away from a purchase even though I would love their 100" model to do such things as doors where a straight edge cut is crucial. For me the small time operator wanting to purchase the 100" models is equal too affording a Mercedes-Benz, WELL BUILT although exspensive and exclusive! "Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how it works...", I received my 50" All in One Clamp on Friday and have been using it all weekend and am just loving it. I've used it as a guide for my circular saw WITHOUT the Saw Plate attachment and it worked perfectly. It didn't move or slip at all which resulted in a perfectly straight line. I have also used it to cut a groove in a piece of MDF with my Porter Cable router (without the Router Plate attachment) and again worked perfectly! And it is not at all difficult to use, it's basically like using a bar clamp. Just slide the clamp to the edge of your board/work piece and press the locking mechanism down, THATS IT! To release it just pull up on the mechanism. I didn't even have to look at the instructions to figure out how it works. Now I will say you do need to mark, measure, and line the All in One clamp just like any other straight edge out there because you can never rely on ANYTHING being perfectly straight. If you do, well you're just setting yourself up for an uneven cut. I will definitely be buying more of these in different sizes, as well as the optional attachments because this has so far saved me hours of setting up a straight edge and clamps to hold the straight edge in place. A definite must have! "Excellent Product", After I figured out how to get it to clamp down properly, I have zero complaints about this product. The instructions on the box are kind of like the "rabbit and turtle" instructions on a lawnmower: Not very descriptive, and they fail to mention the "click lock" mechanism on the rear jaw. Once you perform the click lock, this thing does NOT move from the position you put it in. I have the 50" model, and I am going to purchase a shorter one for smaller work. I did encounter their customer service when I could not immediately get it to clamp down on my workpiece, and I have no complaints about the experience. They were not rude, discourteous or arrogant as has been suggested in other reviews. Lacking the funds and space to own a panel saw, this, combined with a good blade on your circular saw, is the next best thing! "Worth the purchase!!!", The 50" all-in-one straight edge clamp is a must have for the finish carpenter and do-it-yourselfer's! It's very well made and easy to use. So, if you're looking for perfectly straight cuts, I highly recommend this product! ![]() |
