"Electrolux Oxygen Vacuum"
Exceptional vacuum cleaner, very compact and powerful. The idea vacuum to have in a household with three large dogs including one very hairy golden retriever. Electrolux has always been known for a quality prodcut and with the list price at Amazon.com it made it a very good value. Only draw back is that the bags are small but usually in other vacuums once the bags were approximately half filled a power reduction was noted, in this vacuum it is not the case. The compact size allows for easy operation.

"Does the job !"
Delivered on time, works great ! Five stars for the service and the product.

"Piece of junk"
I have owned this vacuum for over two years. Since I have bought it I have had to replace the drive belt 5 times (finally got a heavy duty version that did the trick) and replace 5 wand sections because the electrical connections burned out, and replaced the hose section once because the electrical connections melted, nearly causing a fire. This vacuum was poorly designed and replacement parts are not cheap. This is not your mother's Electrolux. Stay away.. stay very far away!

"A very cheaply made machine"
I have done tons of research on the web concerning vacuums and decided, based largely in part by it's rating in Consumer Reports to buy the Electrolux 6988D. Long story short... it's made in China and it shows. The canister was fairly well made, but the brush head was cheap plastic all around and made a sharp plastic on plastic noise when I put it on the Medium height setting. It also didn't really get deeply into the carpet. The head is too lightweight for that. So, I packed it up and sent it back. Thank God for Amazons return policy. I have now looked at Miele's (expensive and mostly plastic) and Riccar, which are OK and the high end machines are made with some metal and even a wooden rooler on one! I'm still not satisfied, so I have plans to go see the Sebo brand. With any of them I'll end up paying over $800 or more for a halfway decent canister. I was impressed with Riccars uprights that have this whole long hose thing going on. It works like a canister when you turn off the suction to the floor. Still high priced, and I don't want the akwardness of an upright. They really do a far better job on carpets, though, hands down.
Stay away from these Electrolux. They are all plastic and I could just see the potential problems. Electrolux EL 6988D Oxygen Canister Vacuum

"So far so good."
I was deeply troubled after reading all these negative reviews. I have only had this for about a month, but it is great. I'll see how it holds up over time. FYI--this is the number one rated vacuum by Consumer Reports which is why I bought it.

What our customer's say!

"Great Vacuum!", I've only had this vacuum for a month but so far it's been great, powerful suction and compact user-friendly design. I grew up w/ my Mom's Electrolux and ours lasted for years w/ no repair necessary. Can't go wrong w/ an Electrolux.

"Exceeds Expectations", What a surprise!

Our carpet seller had recommended the Oxygen for our berber. We had purchased an expensive upright (Sebo) last year. This canister does just as good of a job cleaning the carpet. It is lightweight, easy to manuever and does a great job on carpeted stairs. We would buy it again.

"Very pleased", I like this vacuum cleaner very much. It's quiet and I am grateful to be using a "bag" vacuum again.

"Best Vacuum I Have Ever Owned", I bought my Electrolux EL6988D in 2005 and I love it. Without a doubt the best vacuum I have ever owned. It is quiet yet very powerful and one of the few that cleans fabric, wood floors and carpet exceptionally well. I use it weekly and no parts have broken or failed. It is very well built and makes vacuuming as fun as it can be. I recommend it VERY highly!

"Vacuum", This is a great vacuum. The only thing I would add would be a place to secure the attachments on the vacuum.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Good Performance, Until It Breaks", I did a lot of research before buying this vacuum a couple of years ago. I really liked it, though it does shoot stuff out of the back on hard floors, as someone wrote in a previous comment.

In the past two weeks, the vacuum and it's accessories have broken. First, it was an extra attachment we bought separately (from Electrolux/Eureka) that is a power stair attachment. It was great. Then, the roller in it stopped spinning. It's not an attachment we used every day--maybe once per month. So, it wasn't broken due to overuse.

About a week later, the roller in the vacuum stopped spinning. The vacuum still has suction. I can't figure out if it's an electrical or mechanical problem. I just can't believe that it broke considering how much money it cost! We don't have pets or any major messes, so I haven't put any undue stress on the vacuum!

"Cute little vacuum, works well", We waited a long time to buy this, since reviews were so mixed. We've had it now about a month and we really like it.
A few comments: The bags are incredibly difficult to find and very expensive. By accident we orderered the clinic s bags (instead of the classic) and they seem to fit fine.
As to the noise: The vacuum is very quiet until you turn on the powerhead. Then it's just as loud as any other vacuum.
Our one complaint is the "twistiness" of the wand. It's difficult to make the powerhead go where you want it. It's difficult to steer. It was a good idea to be able to vacuum under things but it doesn't quite work.
It cleans very well. We have two huge long-haired dogs and this sucks up the hair very well (in addition to all the pin feathers of our bird). One of our carpets is solid dark brown and this cleans it well. It's also very easy to take the wand out of the cannister to clean high up or in other crevises.
The unit is very light and pretty small.

"Seems great to me", I just got this vacuum - it's light, easy to move around, and really works. I had an older upright hoover dimension that was ready to die. This EL6988D works so much better, quieter, lighter and easier to move around my home. Seems like a winner, and fit and finish seem good to me. Will report back if issues arise. Pros: Long retractable cord, great carpet cleaning performance, extension telescope handle, quiet. Cons: Tipped over on it's back a couple of times when resting upright and vacuuming.

"Strong suction, light , quiet, and reasonably priced.", This product is rated #1 by Consumer Reports (CR). I read all reviews including those of lower ranking canister vaccum cleaners, and CR's "Best Buy" pick. In the end, I decided to go with the Oxygen, and have not been disappointed.

It is light and quiet, with excellent suction power. It cleans my tile and wood floors beautifully before I mop.

The accessory tools DO have a storage place under the handle, and do not fall off, as one reviewer complained. The upshostery attachment has to be store elsewhere, but I do not clean my upshostery furniture daily, so I store it my pantry.

Shopping around, I was able to find one at a lowest price, with no taxs and S&H charges. The order came quickly, in pristine packaging and condition.

I am glad I bought this canister vaccum cleaner, and would recommend it highly.

"not your mother's electrolux", I have had this vacuum about one year. It has literally fallen apart. The hose connection (the little prongs that fit together) has snapped off, so the beater head doesn't work. It has poor suction. The pile height adjustment is difficult to step through, and never seemingly the correct height for bare floors or carpet. If you have it adjusted incorrectly at all it will not pick up anything. You have to be sure to cut off the beater head motor before going to bare floors or it shoots particals out the back and across the floor. It also has an uncomfortable handle, it kind of seperates and is very irritating to hold.
I have tried to order a new part for the electrical connector and cannot find anyone who understands what I am talking about. I ordered a couple connectors on line based on a very cryptic outline of the machine, and none that arrive were the correct ones. I am looking for another brand now. I am tired of fooling around with it. I like cannisters for stair cleaning and bare floor to carpet transistions. I hear Kenmore is good. Anyone know about them?
