"Excellent Press if You Care for it Properly"
I have been using my press for over two years now and have had no problems yet. I have gone through at least 5 glass French presses in the few years before buying this one.

I have read many of the reviews and there are a number of them that point out leaking, the bottom coming off, etc. I have not had these problems and I use this press everyday, unless I go out for breakfast (about once every other week). I ALWAYS wash it by hand and have never put it in a dishwasher. I think a dishwasher is probably too hot for the seal and glue (or whatever) that keeps it together at the base. The only thing on mine are some hard water deposits on the outside where the beaker fits into the base.

The filter has darkened with the coffee residue but that doesn't bother me since I only use it for coffee. If I overfill it the filter does have to be tilted in which may put some grinds in the coffee. I usually just pour these out immediately before pressing. Generally, there are very few grounds that go around the filter in this case.

I live in Albuquerque, NM at 5000 feet elevation and I also let it sit longer than 4 minutes, but that's my preference. Another reviewer mentioned high altitude may need longer brewing - perhaps. Most importantly is to be sure the grind is properly coarse. One great private coffee purveyor here in town always grinds my French press coffee way too fine. Normally French press should be a 9 or 10 grind, and this purveyor grinds it around a 4 or 5. This ends up with way too much silt in the bottom of your cup and can be bitter if brewed too long.

The normal recipe is 9 or 10 grind for 4 minutes. This press makes two Starbucks mug-sized cups of coffee per press (about 32 oz).

"Best coffee from an awesome coffee press for the warehouse!"
I absolutely love this thing. My mother has a glass press and turned me on to the joy of "real" coffee. I wanted one for the warehouse, so I went with the unbreakable. It hasnt failed me yet. I have made more pots of coffee with it than I ever expected and its still going strong. A QUALITY product! A+

"A similar Brazilian coffee press lasted 9 years."
**** Update -- I bought the Bodum Chambord 8-cup unbreakable coffee press. You are welcome to see my review of this wonderful coffee maker. ****

I was the kind of person that broke every glass French-press coffee pot I got my hands on in a matter of a few weeks. Then I came across a polycarbonate model that was made in Brazil. It probably would have lasted forever except that the bottom finally began to come apart from the top section. Seems that instead of injection-molding the entire pot, they made a "cylinder" section, and then glued it onto a bottom base section. I began to notice that the pot was leaking, and saw that it was literally coming apart.

I can't complain since I only paid about fifteen bucks for it, and it did last nine years. I'm buying a new model now, and it will be one solid piece, injection-molded, so it probably won't be this one.

Oh, if you live at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level or more, I suggest you brew your coffee for close to five minutes instead of four minutes. Try it and see what you think.

"unbreakable"
This coffee press is very user friendly. The glass ones were so fragile I was afraid to put in the dishwasher. With this one you can put both pieces it in the dishwasher and not worry about them. I've owned at least three of the glass ones and they have all broke from just basic use. I can see that it will take alot of abuse to break this one.

"Bodium Unbreakable works well."
After two broken glass presses I decided to try something else. The Bodium Brazil works great. The strainer at the pouring spout is an improvement over the glass model I had. The temperature seems to be cooler after adding the hot water due to the heat adsorbing properties of the plastic vs. the glass. To my taste it is an improvement being smoother and less bitter using the same coffee.

What our customer's say!

"not unbreakable", Yes, this coffee maker makes awesome coffee, but the glass broke the third time I put it in the dishwasher by just putting it down on the upper rack. Yes, I had to squeeze it in beween some things, but definitely didn't do that harshly.

so NO, it's not unbreakable!!!

"Faulty Product, Emailed Company, No Satisfaction", Beaker cracked, presumably due to heat, within weeks of purchase. I emailed the company and about a week later received a reply in which I was told the beaker isn't covered under warranty. The Bodum representative was kind enough to tell me how to order a replacement. Thanks so much.

During this time I purchased a nice Thermos Nissan stainless-steel press that shouldn't break anytime soon.

"No problems, 8 cupper", Must have fixed flimsy filter foible, it looks to be well reinforced and has given no trouble. Easy to operate, filter and lid slide straight down with no hassle. Yes it allows for 4oz cups but all the recommendations seem to call for at least twice the coffee I've used in the past so now get half the coffee with twice the flavor. Seems like a fair deal to me.

"Very Nice Coffee Press", Hello after two broken IKEA glass coffee presses, I decided it would be desirable to get an unbreakable one. I found it very difficult to find a new press anywhere but the local starbucks, and since i didnt want glass I went online. This Bodum 8 Cup press seems to have an unbreakable carafe alright, the way the handle is attached seems to be abit off though. It seems to be pretty loosley or haphhazardly attached at the top end of the press. If anything breaks eventually it will be this. This one has been making a press a day, 5 days a week for about 2-3 months. Priced around $20 it seems to be good bang for the buck $$$.

"Incredibly Cheap -- And Only Two Cups!", I was incredibly disappointed when I pulled this thing out of the box. It is cheaply made, and the only 8 cups you might get out of this thing would be demitasse. It is probably good for only two American-sized cups of coffee. I am returning it forthwith.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great coffee, easy clean up", Bought this for my husband after breaking every other one made of glass we have ever owned. This glass like plastic is GREAT! Love that the whole thing can go in the dishwasher.

"EXCELLENT!", We bought this after first trying a glass french press. The glass one's beak broke almost immediately so we bought this plastic one to try to avoid that. Has been a great purchase and makes excellent coffee.

"Tough little coffee press!", I bought one of these several years ago to use while camping. Meanwhile, I have broken 3-4 glass carafes....while knocking coffee grounds out at work, in the dishwasher, and on the countertop. So, I decided to replace the one broken at work with one of these! I still use one the same size made of glass at home, but I will probably replace it (when it is eventually broken) with one of the plastic ones. The plastic version is quicker/easier to clean, and the coffee tastes just as good! I also prefer the plastic top...since the chrome top eventually gets rust spots inside anyway. And, the glass carafes are just too fragile for the less careful folks I live with...

"Coffee Press ", The coffee press is the best! It only makes about 3 mug-sized cups but it tastes great.

"Unbreakable...yes...UNCRACKABLE...NO!!!", Purchased it in January 2007. Used it...maybe...3 times a week. I threw it away last week because of a leaky crack in the bottom. (middle of May 2007) Don't waste your money...get either a glass one or metal.
