Others say...
"The perfect solution for buttering your bread" I live in the Washington DC area where it often gets muggy, yet this thing did its job even on the hot days. Soft fresh butter. And the price is perfect for giving to co-workers for those cheap office gifts, but this one they will love! "Works Great In The Cooler Months" Norpro Butter Keeper is such a handy little tabletop gadget that I bought two. My husband is a slob with the butter knife and gets toast crumbs and anything else he has used his knife on in the butter so now he can have his own butter to be messy with. My only problem is that I live in So Cal where our summertime temps challenge the best air conditioning systems and getting the house cooled below 80 is near impossible some days, so I can't fault the product. As a result I can't use this during our hot weather months because the butter just falls out into the water when you lift the lid. I do however look forward to being able to use it later on in the year. Another plus for the Norpro Butter Keeper is that its great for other firm spreads like cream cheese too. "It works as advertised." - Ceramic crock; keeps butter fresh for 30 days without refrigeration - Water in base seals out air to keep butter soft, sweet, and spreadable - Measures 4-inch in diameter; 3-1/2-inch tall - Safe to use in dishwasher - Water seals out air keeping butter soft, sweet and spreadable I've found all the above claims to be true. I was very skeptical that it could hold butter upside down and do it well. I've had this butter keeper for well over a year, and we go through a lot of butter. Spreading butter on toast and other breads had always been an unpleasurable task since keeping butter outside of the refrigerator tended to get messy or wasteful once the butter got rancid, and spreading cold butter is just yukky. Now, it's always a pleasure. It holds a full stick of butter and that butter will keep until we use it up. I then pop the butter keeper in the dishwasher before changing to a new stick. I let the new stick soften somewhat before packing it into the butter keeper, fill the water container with cold water, and that's it. I keep a very small container of cold water in the refrigerator to replenish the water in the butter keeper about every 2-3 days. I have gone longer than 3 days without replenishing the water in the butter keeper and although the butter never got rancid, I could tell it was not as fresh as changing the water sooner. If the butter is not packed well into the container or the water is not cold, some pieces of butter may fall into the water; but the butter retrieved from the water is still fresh and spreadable. One of my sons, a picky engineer, was visiting recently and was so impressed with using it that he "exclaimed" he wanted one, which makes one less problem in choosing his birthday gifts next month. "Dissapointed" I am dissapointed with the Norpro. The butter would constantly fall out of its bowl and into the water bowl after being exposed to room temperature for only 15 minutes. I do live in a warm climate(Alabama) but we have the air conditoner running!I now use the Norpro as a butter dish and place it out side the refrigerator about 30 minutes before using the butter. "I love my butter keeper" I bought this butter keeper this (hot)summer because keeping the butter in the fridge made it too hard to use on toast, and keeping it on the counter ended up in a puddle of melted butter. Keeping butter cooled in water keeps it spreadable all the time. The container can get a little grotty, especially with less careful kids using it, but no more than a butter dish would get. I highly recommend this and the price is right!

What our customer's say! "Don't buy this from Amazon!", One star isn't what I give the actual product, but rather the experience I had trying to get it from Amazon. The first arrived broken; they sent a second one; it arrived in even worse shape than the first. Other reviewers have complained about the same thing - obviously the shipping method being used isn't adequate. I ended up getting one elsewhere - all it took was a little bubble wrap and it arrived in perfect shape. The item itself is great, but I'd get it elsewhere! "Love it", We love having spreadable butter right by the toaster. Works great, especially in fall/winter when the house is a little cooler. We tried one from a potter first because we liked the looks better, but it had a lip on the butter dish part that was hard to work around when removing butter and cleaning. The open bell is much better. "Butter Bell", Great product, does the job, thank goodness for old fashioned technology. Liked it so much bought another for a friend! AND he loves it! "butter keeper", This is an attractive, well-made and useful item. Put the butter in the top, add cold water to the base, invert the top and your butter will stay at room temperature (spreadable and easy to handle) and will not go rancid because no air can get to it. "Norpro Butter Keeper - Greatest thing next to sliced bread", I bought this to replace another one I had had for years. It works great! It stays on the counter so it's always readily available and is always at a spreadable temperature. It'll hold one stick of butter and the butter stays fresh for about one week (probably longer, but we go through it quickly). Add cold water to just cover the bell when inserted into the crock and no air is allowed into the butter chamber preventing rancid butter. Replace the water once a day. Enjoy! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Recommended - Keeps butter cool & softened!", I bought this with the 4 for 3 promotion. What a great find! I remember my Mom having one years ago, but I never thought about buying one since I would just soften what I wanted to use in the microwave. Now softened butter is readily available. The butter cup holds 1/2 cup of softened butter. I usually put in about a 1/4 cup which works well for the two of us since we don't eat a lot of butter. I fill it all the way when I know I will need softened butter to make a compound butter such as garlic basil butter (great on grilled corn on the cob). Then I take half of it out and put it into another bowl to mix with the other ingredients. This is a plain but nice glazed stoneware set that looks good on the counter or the table. Everyone that sees it loves it, and I have recommended this item to friends who still insist on using a butter dish! "Soft Butter", This works great! I had one previously, but dropped the lid on our granite counter and chipped the lid. So this time I bought two, just in case I'm clumsy again or if I want one on each end of the dining table. I do wish the color were a true white, not an off-white. "Beautiful and Helpful!", I am so glad I bought this butter bell! It is wonderful to have soft, spreadable butter anytime I need it without having to remember to take it out of the refrigerator to soften. And it is so pretty that I am proud to have it on my counter or dinner table. We had decided to start eating less margarine and replace it with real butter whenever possible. As much as people bash butter, it really is healthier than margarine. Of course, the flavor can't be beat! The Norpro Butter Keeper is so easy to use too. I just soften a stick of butter and then scoop it into the bell on the underside of the lid. Next I add a small amount of water to the base and then put the lid back on top with the bell in the water. The water forms a seal that keeps the butter fresh without it getting hard and difficult to spread. Water should be changed every couple of days. Nothing could be easier and it is well worth it to have butter whenever I want it. This is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. Highly recommended! "Works like a charm", Ordered it got it right away and started using it with our homemade butter and it works great! You MUST change the water every couple days. We pressed the butter in tight and it held well. We use it daily! Nothin' like soft butter to make your sandwich with - no more ripping the bread. "Does the job!", I have never used a butter keeper before. I hate cold butter, but I also hate microwaving it for a few seconds and having it desolving all over the place. This made so much sense. It's really cute and goes well in my blue and white kitchen. I use it in cooking and at the table with no problems. Replacing the cold water regularly seems to be the key, but I have had the same butter out for almost two weeks without any problems. I think this might be a kitchen tool that I end up taking for granted, but never want to live without. ![]() |
