"This tea kettle leaks"
Within a month, this tea kettle was leaking. I had it replaced and the second one leaked too. I have now moved to a DeLonghi, and I'm surprised to find it also leaks. My first DeLonghi lasted five years and was still going strong but looked a little corroded, so I got a new one. I'm sorry I threw the old one out, because it looks like the new ones with the water level guages have seal problems and leak. If anyone knows of one that doesn't have this problem, I would sure like to know. This appliance is a necessity in our house. A whistling stove top tea kettle doesn't work for hearing-impaired people and we depend on the auto shut off feature for safety.

"Buy the Cuisinart instead"
I bought this as a replacement for a Cuisinart electric kettle because it was half the price, which was a serious mistake. It takes far longer to boil than the Cuisinart, and once it boils it just keeps boiling for several minutes, while the Cuisinart turns off right away. Skip this one notwithstanding the apparent bargain.

"Great Kettle!"
So far I've been using it for several weeks. It boils water really quick. Stainless steel appearance is awesome. Definetely worth the money I paid. Prompt delivery. Before I bought this kettle, I purchased another one made of plastic. I couldn't use it becuase the water smelled of burned plastic, even though there was nothing wrong with the kettle. Returned that kettle and bought this one. Stainless steel is a way to go!!!

"Go with another brand."
I've had this kettle for 11 months and it is not longer working properly, unlike other reviews here mine does not shut off unless I manually do it, so it will boil forever. The pot gets VERY hot and it does leak around the bottom and the handle. I would go with another brand for the money.

"DON'T BUY THIS KETTLE: no replacement parts if you fry the bottom part"
Bottom part got fried by my oven vent. I called the company and they have no replacement parts whatsoever for the kettle. So I have the expensive top part and they will not send me, even for some money, the bottom part. It's nothing but a $40 piece of landfill now! I CONSIDER NO REPLACEMENT PARTS TO BE REALLY REALLY BAD SERVICE AND A DISSERVICE TO OUR ENVIRONMENT. HAMILTON BEACH WILL NOT BE GETTING ANYMORE OF MY MONEY. And I hope they don't get any of yours either!

What our customer's say!

"Not very convenient, poor quality", I bought this to replace an old plastic kettle that was working fine, being 5 years old.

First disappointment was that there were plastic parts in contact with water, although I understand, this is common.

The kettle turned out to be less convenient, compared to the one I had before:
1) You can only use it to boil largish quantities of water, which then take longer. If you just want one cup in a hurry, you are out of luck.
2) Having to open the lid for refilling was a nuisance at first.
3) The switch can be too easily set accidentally if you have a crowded kitchen table/counter.
4) The switch can be accidentally held down by other objects on the counter, preventing it from shutting off.

Our biggest problem was that less than half a year into the service the kettle started leaking with water getting onto the base. Shortly thereafter the kettle failed to turn off, overboiled and water *erupted* from it onto the counter and onto the base. We were lucky no one got burned or shocked. (The kettle was not overfilled, and the lid was tight).

Do not buy it.

"3 years old and still great", I received this kettle as a gift 3 years ago, and it still works as well as it did when I got it - it's never had problems. Boils very quickly, holds a good amount of water, and works equally well with different water levels. My friend bought a different kettle after liking mine, and it almost boils over if you overfill it.

"Roomy But Noisy", I bought this Hamilton Beach electric kettle to replace one that died. It's big and holds lots of water for multiple servings--good. It's noisy and because of the narrow bottom, kinda slow to heat--bad. So far it's been reliable but it's just more of the same cheap made-in-China stuff we can't seem to get away from anymore--very thin metal, cheap stainless veneer, low quality plastic base. I predict this kettle will last a couple years, like the last one. At least it looks pretty sitting on the countertop.

"We depend on this kettle everyday!", We used to microwave a lot of cups and bowls for tea, coffee, oatmeal -- no more!! One of the best things about the kettle is that you can pick it right up off of its charging base, and set it down anywhere you want on the counter. Nice style; simple, touch-of-a button use. We like the balance in the handle when lifting it, too. Actually got an extra as a present for family.

When it broke, we contacted Hamilton Beach, and their customer service was very accomodating for a replacement, too.

"weird flavor", Unlike many reviewers here, I've been using this kettle almost daily for a year with no leaks and no malfunctions. However, I've noticed that the water I boil in this kettle has a strange flavor. It tastes slightly sweet and it's strong enough to add noticeable flavor to the tea I drink. I'm certain that the water I use is not responsible for the flavor. I've put up with it for a while, but I'm getting concerned that whatever is causing this off-flavor may be toxic (not to mention that it affects the taste of whatever I use it for), so I'll be replacing the kettle shortly.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Boiling great for a year and half!", We have had ours for a year and a half, and we love ours, using it at least once a day for tea or the french press. I am surprised to read so many bad reviews! That is a shame... We bought ours for under $28, and I guess if it lasts another year we won't be too dissipointed. I love the design, and being full stainless steel is important to us. I like that I can wrap the cord around the bottom to shorten the length. My biggest pet-peeve is the little black plastic marks it leaves on my counter, but they clean up easy...
The next one we would buy would have to be insulated, but I will look for one with a similar design.

"this kettle has done us well", I'm surprised to read some of these reviews. We've had this kettle for 2 years, and it works as well as it did when we bought it. I think it looks great, is very easy to keep clean and looking new, and boils water like it's supposed to. Yeah, I guess the body gets hot, but that's what the handle is for. I like mine enough that I'm buying one this christmas for friends.

"Mine blew up and threw a circuit breaker", We loved this kettle but didn't use it very much. Even so, after less than 1 year, we were waiting for it to boil one day and there was a loud bang from the kettle and it threw a circuit breaker. Now that I've read that others have had problems too, I'll definately be shopping around for an alternate brand.

"Lasted 2 years", Great kettle while it lasted, but then the base went puff, and the smoke signaled its demise after 2 years.
This is a large chunk of steel to put in landfill. It's a shame these things are designed to fail so quickly. These a'holes should be forced to take back all the carcasses.

"It's perfect!", What a great product. After reading the reviews on this maybe I'm lucky but I haven't had any problems at all. It does exactly what I want it to do; boil water quickly and last a long time. It boils quickly and I've had it over 2 years now.
